I was very happy with the way everything went from start to finish. I just logged on, built my desktop, chose accessories with it and applied for a finance. In no time I had an answer that my finance was accepted and my system is ready to be built. It took almost few weeks for it to arrive, but never mind the wait time when you can build your system exactly the way you want and what you can afford. I would definitely recommend pc specialist to anyone buying a computer.
Good laptop very good only bad thing was it took to long to come, 5 weeks.
I bought a Cosmos III laptop from PC Specialist. The ability to customise the configuration is excellent. There is a little room for improvement in the implementation, though, as the options for some items are not priced in the drop-down lists, meaning that to compare prices it is necessary to select each option in turn and see what effect they have on the total price. I like that the description of the screen uses the word "matte" rather than the rather vague "anti-glare" used by other suppliers. The price was very competitive.
The website failed to process my credit card payment, saying that the payment was not authorised. I don't know whether this was caused by the PC Specialist site or the card provider, but I have never had this on any other sites. I had to phone to get the transaction processed; it took a few minutes for my call to be answered, but once it was, the agent was able to process the payment very efficiently.
Delivery took 12 days, but it was well worth the wait for the ability to customise the spec and for the PC to be properly tested, and email updates were sent at each stage of the process. The laptop was very well packaged to protect it from possible damage in transit, not that there was any sign of careless handling.
I am very impressed with the laptop, apart from some minor annoyances with the keyboard (the right arrow key is where the left-hand side of the zero key should be, and the F keys are evenly spaced rather than grouped in 4s, making them less easy to use by touch). Performance is very good, even with numerous applications running simultaneously, and the screen quality is excellent. I also like the fact that it has an L-shaped power plug, making it less likely to get knocked and damage the socket.
Site easy to understand and use. All specification conflicts are highlighted when making a custom build are rectified before you complete the order. I tried getting hold of them on the phone on a couple of occasions - once to ask regarding a promotion of a free game, as there was no information when ordering that indicated that it was included so I assumed one would come given I had met the criteria for it, yet none turned up, and second occasion to ask about what extra care was taken with the 'Diamond Delivery' option, as again there were no details to this on the site and now I am unsure as to whether I received this service after paying for it. The PC itself is spot on - very happy indeed. It required minimal setting up on my part and am impressed with the price I got it for as I couldn't buy the parts cheaper myself.
I recently purchased a high-end work laptop from PC Specialist, specifically a rebranded Clevo that they call the Cosmos III.
While it's an unasuming big laptop, specs wise it's excellent, and it was 10 to 20% cheaper than a similar "brand" laptop. It's actually better in some ways, as I couldn't find this specific combination of specs in any pre-assembled brand laptop.
The build quality is fantastic and everything sturdy and well put together. I did get a small dead pixel shortly after starting it, but I have in gurantee for a year so I might send it to be fixed later in the year as right now I need it for work.
My order had a small glitch in the system that left it's build progress status stuck for most of the build time. Thankfully, customer service had no problem with me calling basically every week to check on it's progress. It was a somewhat annoying quirk of the process, but ultimately everything was ok.
Speaking of customer service, they are very polite and effective, but wait times are quite long. Email communication is also basically non-existant, which means that you have to call them, which some people might not be able to do during working hours. The forum is useful, but mostly populated by users rather than PC Specialist staff, making it's usefulness limited to information on how to do things but no actual "help" from the company. These are all areas were things can be improved.
All in all though, I'm really satisfied with my purchase and I will definately use them in the future again.
I love my laptop it does what I want it to do and it was at a reliable price compared to ooff the sshelf laptops.
The only disadvantage I would say is that it did take 20 days from order to delivery
This is the second computer I've had built by PC Specialist. I am very pleased with the first, a high-spec desktop, so had no hesitation in ordering a hi-spec laptop some months later. Great performance at a good price. The laptop took a bit longer to deliver than I expected but I'd factored that in.
I chose PC specialist as they have a good reputation in the business, and their systems get good reviews in the PC magazines. The self design aspect of selecting the components that I needed was very straightforward, and you could easily keep tabs on the cost as you went along. My PC was for music production so a reasonably fast CPU and a good wedge of RAM were my priorities - I had my own music card so I knew what I wanted and how much I wanted to pay before I started. PC specialist's finance options were also flexible enough for me to find what I wanted in that respect - their rivals only had certain options that didn't fit with my requirements. Once ordered and the Finance set up, I was kept fully up to date with progress, from construction, set up, testing and dispatch. When the unit arrived I was impressed not only by the, packing quality, but also the quality of the build and the way it had been tidily put together inside. I just slotted my music card in, uploaded the drivers, and now I am in noise heaven again!
Got recommended this site by my boyfriend and he helped me pick from all the various options - it's nice that you can see how much you are spending as you pick the options because you can keep it in whatever budget you have. Once I put the order through it didn't take long for my laptop to be build and then shipped. I have been using it for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it!
I was all set to buy a regular-sized computer from PC Specialist until I saw that they sold these new tiny Intel NUC (New Unit of Computing) PCs. I'd read about them when they were announced but I wasn't interested in having to buy and add all the components myself so I was really excited when I realised that PC Specialist would do that for me. I set about specifying the features I required and found that the price was competitive too.
Because it's such a palaver to have to move everything from one computer to the next, when I'm buying a new one I try to buy one with enough "oomph" to last me a good few years. This time I chose a 3.1GHz i7 processor and 16GB RAM and am pretty certain it will still be comfortable running the latest software in 5 years time.
Because I was planning to store and manipulate a lot of photos on this machine I chose 1TB of storage on a hybrid drive which would allow fast boot as well as providing good value for money. I also had to make sure I could run more than one screen off the PC and it took a while to find out exactly what cables I needed to connect my 2 existing flat panel monitors. I noticed that it wasn't possible to specify a 5-in-1 card reader for the system so when I ordered the screen cables I spend a few pounds buying a USB-3 card reader too. I didn't have a choice of network cards but I made sure the wifi connection was the latest standard (802.11AC).
Now I've been using my computer for a while I can confirm that I really love it. The graphics on both my screens is really sharp and the networking is an order of magnitude better than my old PC. Sucking in pictures from the USB-3 card reader is no slower than using the integrated card-reader in my previous PC. I can really notice the difference in processor speed when I'm running programs and it's nice not to always be worrying about how much disk space is available. Compared to my old floor-standing PC it's really quiet and that was a really pleasant surprise.
I realise now that all that's happened is that Intel have built this desktop PC out of tiny little laptop components. It's just as powerful and flexible as a regular sized PC but just..... tiny!
The whole experience with PC Specialist was great from order to delivery. The Customer service via live chat was extremely helpful and it meant that I could request anything that I wanted specific to my computer. I felt that I was kept upto date through email and the order tracking online. The product came excellently packaged. Probably the biggest package I have ever had delivered. There was packaging in both the interior and the exterior of the PC. The PC itself was built excellently, with tidy cable management. It was obvious that it wasn't rushed and it seems like the company really take pride in building the devices. All drivers and software came in a neatly packed box. The PC came pre installed with Windows and to my satisfaction Windows 7 was installed opposed to automatically upgrading it to 10. I found that the delivery was fast and once again I was kept well updated. The whole process did take longer than expected but that will be the case sometimes I think the company are on a busy spell at the moment. The website itself was easy to use and gave plenty of information about each part. I would say that it would be good if there were more options in terms of perifferals. I found the mouse that I was looking for however they didn't stick the corsair k70 rob mechanical keyboard that I was looking for but its not a big deal. The price worked out around the same is it would have been to build it myself which is great as I got a 3 year warranty with it. This gave me great piece of mind.
Excellent service, excellent PC's
The site was very easy to use and was great as it allowed me to design the laptop with the specifications that I required. The communications from pcspecialist were very helpful and kept me up to date with the progress of my laptop as it was being manufactured. I would definitely recommend the use of this site to a friend.
As a family we have now had four laptops from PCS. I think that speaks for itself. My only criticism is that they were unprepared for a large number of orders in September 2015 and this resulted in delays.
I wanted to buy a computer that would last me at least 5 years, and spent a lot of time comparing the different options online. PC Specialist came out as THE winner in terms of value for money and ease of use of the website.
The ordering process was very smooth, the website makes it very easy to configure your dream computer and even gives you advise so that you do not choose incompatible components.
The communication about the advancement of the building process was also very much appreciated as the different steps were clear and well explained. The only issue I had is that my computer got "stuck" for almost two weeks in the "testing" phase, which was strange but also sounded like a bad omen, as if my computer had some problems...
The shipping and delivery was extremely smooth, nothing to say about that.
Finally, the product itself was very well assembled, neat, and very well packed. It turned on perfectly and is running like a charm at the moment of writing (I am using this computer to write the review).
My build is: Asus X99-S motherboard, i7 5820K processor, 32 GB of DDR4 Ram, a Kingston M2 SSD as main hard drive (500gb), a 1 GB Samsung EVO 850 as secondary hard drive for my audio samples (I compose classical music on FL Studio), 2x3GB hard drives in RAID 0 and an AMD R9 390 as graphics card.
I would definitely recommend PC Specialist to a friend!
