I'd never bought anything from Pixmania until a week ago, when I'd decided on a netbook I wanted to buy, only to find that nowhere else actually had it in stock. I usually prefer to buy from high street shops, but found that Pixmania had the right netbook in stock and at a competitive price, so I decided to make a purchase.
Pixmania's website is quite clearly laid out, with tabs along the top of the main page for categories such as 'Computing/Tablets' and 'Telephony'. When you hover the mouse over any of these category names, a sub-menu pops up, allowing you to search for items such as 'laptop computers' and to refine the search from there. There's also a search box which comes in handy if you know exactly what you're looking for. When you click on an individual product, you can access technical information and reviews, and there's an indicator of whether or not the product is in stock.
There's all the usual information you would expect about delivery options, payment methods, contact details and so on. I've read some criticisms of Pixmania based on its use of the delivery service Yodel - when I placed my order, the delivery I was offered was Royal Mail, which came with a charge of just over £5, but on looking back at the website I see there is also a budget delivery option provided by DHL, which I believe is now called Yodel.
The Pixmania website isn't brilliant, with some features taking a few seconds to load, and I've found the site to be a little jumpy sometimes - for example, when I tried to go from looking at a list of products to accessing delivery information at the bottom of the page, it kept sending me back to the product list. However, all the basic product information you would expect is there.
If you are going to make a purchase from Pixmania, it's worth doing a quick search to see if there are any special offers on the go. I found a code to get £5 off (the code was on a voucher code website), which more or less made my delivery free.
I placed an order for my netbook, and received a confirmation email, giving a guide delivery date of 3rd-4th July. I have seen some criticism of Pixmania for taking money instantly when an order is placed, but this hasn't been my experience - the information I was given was that payment is taken four days after delivery.
I was sent an order tracking link with my confirmation of purchase, but this was neither use nor ornament. Most of the time, the link took me to a blank page. Occasionally, it took me to an invoice page, with no tracking information at all.
Alarmingly, on 3rd July, when my order was just about due to be delivered, I got an email from Pixmania, saying that I had placed an item in my basket, and did I want to complete the purchase? This undermined my confidence in the company, as I had of course completed my purchase and had had a confirmation email. I emailed Pixmania and asked what was going on and why I had received this email, and to date have not received any reply.
I did not receive delivery on 3rd or 4th July as planned, but as I'd been out for most of the 4th, I decided to call Pixmania. Normally, I'd just have assumed I had missed the delivery, but the strange email I'd received in the meantime made me think something had gone wrong. I'd also started looking at reviews of Pixmania, and found mostly bad ones.
However, getting through to Customer Services was straightforward. An agent was able to check my order and to tell me that Royal Mail had in fact attempted delivery on the 4th. From this point, it was easy to go and collect my netbook, and I have no complaints about the packaging of my order or the delivery service.
In my experience, the service provided by Pixmania is *OK*. In its favour, the prices are competitive, it seems to be able to supply items that are out of stock in shops and there is sufficient information on the website to make an informed purchase.
However, I am subtracting a couple of stars for the flawed communication. This was a large purchase for me to make, and the tracking information was useless, coupled with the strange email asking me to complete my purchase. Although this was quickly resolved with a call to Customer Services, it's too bad that I had the experience of thinking I was never going to see my order.
While this wasn't the horror story portrayed in many reviews of Pixmania. the company clearly has some work to do on its systems.
I bought a pair of Dect phones from their site. At the time of ordering I was unaware that they were being delivered from Spain (Maxmobil) which took 8 days to arrive. On arrival the chargers had EU type plugs (no mention of this on Pixmania website) so I bought 2 EU-UK adaptors off Amazon at a cost of £4-98. I had to cut the adaptors I bought to get the EU plug to fit in. After charging had finished the phones did not work so I enquired about returning them which I did at a cost of £6-40. After a number of emails I did get back the cost of the phones and the original postage but not the return postage or cost of the adaptors which Citizens Advice said I could claim as Sub sequential Loss. Pixmania say my contract is not with them even though they took my money via Paypal and refunded me via Paypal. Both they and the Spanish firm have been absolutely useless in trying to resolve this problem. I am currently waiting a call-back from Citizens advice as to the next course of action.
Personally I would never use Pixmania again, I had problems with them 2 years ago when I ordered a router which was totally useless and was listed under the wrong section on their website
DO NOT USE or on your own head be it, you have been warned.
I purchased not 1 but 2 42" TV's just before christmas, Delivery was very slow not the delivery time promised on ordering, carefully working out finances, and going through quidco and getting a promise of £25 cashback was within my budget, i got an email from quidco to say Sorry PIXMANIA are refusing to pay as you have already got cashback from another company called petoba, this transpires that they are an affiliate company and they got the cashback instead of me!! SO I SAY TAKE IT UP WITH THEM, I want to return the items for a refund as TV's are very poor quality and picture!! They said because it was just out of the 15 day return period, they are not doing anything about it, WHERE is the justice in this country, this has caused me a lot of distress that i can do without. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, !!!!!
I WANT TO KNOW WHEN THIS COMPANY WILL BE SHUT DOWN, THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO TRADE
Further to my review, i have been informed it is illegal, to supplie goods in the uk without a fitted plug, TRADING STANDARDS and OFFICE OF FAIR TRADE are now dealing with it.
why continue to use yodel? they are the most ineffecient parcel service ever. my step-daughter, after phoning to confirm on tuesday, has had a day off today-friday- but no lap-top. third time they've let her down. i can't ask her about the laptop as she hasn't got it yet. i've used you before so i bought it for her as a treat.
I recently purchased a tablet as a Fathers Day gift but decided to return it as the person for whom it was intended did not need it. Whilst the tablet arrived in good time one thing Pixmania don't tell you is that for a refund this item had to be returned by recorded delivery to FRANCE costing over £16.00. Not good customer service. Wouldn't order from them again in the future!
28th of May i order a product from "Pixmania Used" it was in stock and the order was processed and money taken. A mate has order two of the same product a few days ago and received them already. Checked my account and my order is still pending. Called them up and was told the product isnt in stock - well i know that as my mate got the last 2, i was told they must have ordered from a different supplier - they didnt. So Pix cant give me the product i wanted so i have requested the order to be cancelled as i couldnt do it through the webpage as it said the order was "dispatched" interesting..... Pix will now make a few more days of interest on my money and im out of pocket for a little longer.
I wonder how long it would have been before they told me the order couldnt be processed and they arent getting any more stock......
I wont be using Pix ever again - ill stick to my reliable suppliers in future.
I ordered a Mobility Lab Numeric Keypad from Pixmania. There was a fault with the keypad so I used the online returns service to request a refund. I was informed that I would have to pay for the cost of returning the item to Pixmania's French address. I would then have to photocopy the postal receipt and send it together with my bank details in order for me to be reimbursed the cost of postage. I thought this was a poor returns system.
Following on from this I received a response from Rachel, a Pixmania mediator. She was extremely helpful, courteous and a pleasure to deal with. She quickly organised a much more convenient return for me, arranging for the order to be picked up. Excellent!
After initially being disappointed with Pixmania, this very good customer service experience has caused me to revise my original opinion and I would gladly deal with them again.
Needed a replacement for my Canon IXUS 960IS which was ruined by a can of pop bursting inside the same bag. This Canon IXUS 115HS has a new feature which I wanted so it was easily the cheapest. Lots of hoops to go through to maintain the cheapest price but...Product came from Poland with German, Italian, Dutch and French instructions. Nothing in English. Whilst some of the pictures help, this kind of technical language needs English!
Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with the Pixmania site itself. It is bright, attractive and easy to navigate. There are plenty of options for payment and someone phoned me a day after I ordered (I'm assuming because my payment was quite large) to verify that I was the person who put the order through and that everything was above board.
I ordered an Advent Desktop PC with Pixmania on 16 April. It arrived promptly and safely packaged and I was pleased with the service. However within 3 days of use the PC shut down on me, and would not restart. Naturally I got in touch with them to arrange for a refund, which was fine. Eventually they emailed me out all the instructions, labels and extra information I needed to return the order. No apologies though for the inconvenience.
It seems like they made it intentionally laborious to return items, lots of different labels and printouts required and pretty vague instructions on how to return them. All the while stating that if not packaged and returned properly they reserve the right to withhold the refund.
So I eventually got to grips with how to package it, and what I needed to supply in the package, UPS picked it up from me on 3 May. I have a tracking number from UPS which states that my order has been delivered safely, but on the site it still says that they are waiting to receive the order. After emailing their after sales team on 15 May to enquire about this I got fobbed off with a generic 'We will check the warehouse and email you back' I still have had no reply.
I think it's time to get a little more aggressive in terms of pursuing my refund. It's a shame, because if their customer service had been good I might have re-ordered with them after I got my refund (which at the moment is looking a long way off) It's important to me that companies I order with issue prompt service for obviously faulty merchandise.
While the site is good value for money, I'd avoid shopping with them just in the instance that something goes wrong. The customer service that I've received has been very poor.
Visiting from South Africa and wanted to replace an iPod that we "lost". Pixmania had the best price. Credit card purchase was no problem and delivery was within an acceptable timeframe (5 working days from order) without any frills.101% happy :-)
hello I recently purchased a product from pixmania, whilst it took 5 days to process / dispatch and arrive at my door and some guy who phoned me to verify the order sounding like he didnt want to be there, I was happy with the service and would use again, the product was excellent and the yodel driver the delivery agent was cheerful, it may not have been the quickest service i've been involved in and at £13 a go, but the end result is positive, so pixmania some fine tuning in a few departments and you could be excellent, as it was I would say the service was average, I was extreemly happy witht the a3 scanner that I purchased and at a good price as well, you could say that was a bonus to the average service that came with it, so if you dont mind an average service with good products and good prices then pixmania is for you, happy buying
I have been contacted since writing this review by pixmania customer care, they have resolved the issues I had to my satisfaction, so with regard to them pixmania and their customer care 10 out of 10 for listening to customers who have issues and sorting things out, Im very happy with the outcome and will be buying from them again in the future and would recommend to others to do so also
I will not be using PIXmania.com again. I purchased an electronic product (RAZER Nostromo Gaming Keypad) and while the price was good and delivery time was acceptable, they LEFT IT ON MY DOORSTEP. I live in a road where houses are not cheap, and pikeys like to patrol it. Next door got burgled a few weeks ago. If my order got stolen, there's no point in me having paid a low price (which is why I selected PIXmania) since I would just have to buy it again!Change your courier, or lose any future business from me.
I used PIXmaina almost two weeks ago and do not have a problem with their, web site, selection, pricing or the whole process. Till it cames to having my order delivered. PIXmaina use a company called, YODELL, to make their deliveries in the UK. (I think they should look VERY hard at YODELL) I know this because I had to call them to find out where my order is. (I say, is, as I'm still waiting).
It was dispatched: 02.04.12. I tried to track it on 10.04.12. They said they tried to deliver it on 07.04.12. Sating:
"Delivery attempt next business day: addressee not at address indicated / addressee's office closed."
I called YODELL', "COSTOMER SERVICE DEPT" and explained my findings and that the delivery address is a 'private' address and not an office and that, I WAS IN ALL THAT DAY, so I don't understand the above statment. No card was left to say they were ever there. COSTOMER SERVICE wasn't very helpful at all. She wasn't rude but she made no attempt to appease me or at least seem sympatheic . I said, going what's happened I'm happy to pick it up myself but was told it's not possible as it's already on route and the van is not due back till 7pm. Can you check they have the right address and let me know what's happening. (it's not rocket science, they have the wrong address or they lied). She said she would pass on the info to the dispatch forman but no will would getting back to me about it and she could not make a note to say, IF, I still didn't have it after today I would come get it. So god only knows.
I would think long and hard about, WHO, you want to deliver your order. I've since found these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=UVwIO8MStxI
I recently purchased a Western Digital 500GB My Passport Portable Hard Drive, from Pixmania, great service, allowed me to easily track my order, ordered on the Monday, Delivered on the Thursday.
The Western Digital My Passport is a great product, it came with its own password protection, and a USB 3.0 B to USB 3.0 A cable, which is backward compatible with USB 2.0, i worked brilliantly on My Samsung R519, Windows 7 Home Premium. Furthermore if you have a new Mac with thunderbolt I / O you can buy adapters for USB 3 to Thunderbolt allowing you to get 5 GB / S.
On the hard drive it has backup software, password protection software, disk management software etc. Works brilliantly with Piriform Defraggler.
The Delivery was excellent and i couldn't of asked for a better service, as i said, ordered on the monday, came by the thursday, 4 day delivery, with the weekly delivery!!
Overall 5 star product and 5 star service!!!
I recently bought a plasma TV online from pixmania. The price was unbeatable for the specific model I wanted and the delivery service was superb: they delivered to me within four days, on a SUNDAY (at no extra cost!) in a specified time slot that they informed me of both on-line and by text on the morning of the delivery and actually kept to. The delivery people were polite, friendly and efficient, happy to deliver to the room of my choice.
I really cannot fault them, would recommend them to anyone and will definitely buy from them again. A large part of that recommendation is due to the efficiency of their delivery service. Other online stores which I use regularly (e.g. Amazon) have a tendency to use carriers that have given me shoddy service over the years (expecting me to wait in all day, unable to provide a delivery time slot, delivering to the wrong address, asking me to drive 30 miles to their warehouse to pick up the goods, only to tell me when I get there that the goods have been sent out for delivery, etc.), but pixmania seem to have this aspect of the business all sorted out.
