Advantages: Cheapest prices on the net, Free Registered P & P, Easy website to navigate
Disadvantages: Could lighten up on the packaging, I could spend a fortune!
Don't videos take up a lot of space? If you are anything like me you'll have collected a few over the years, then along come the children and your collection doubles with the likes of Barney and Bugs Life causing your Fawlty Towers and Godfather Special Editions to collect dust and be pushed to the back. Then comes your shiny new DVD player, and the slimmer cases, taking up half the space of your Usual Suspects and Goodfellas (how on earth did you afford all those? Oh yeah the kids...) See the thing is I have hundreds of videos about 400 at the last count and I believe thats probably quite average (tell me it is..)And no I hardly watch any of them, but I do have my favourites, Father Of The Bride, A Few Good Men, Roxanne etc so my plan is to replace some videos with DVD's, but thats going to cost. Well it will if you venture on the high street, but make your way to www.play247.com and your going to save bucketfuls. Example Four Weddings and A Funeral: WHSmith (online)£15.99 + postage £2.74 = £18.73 Play247 £13.99 no postage or packing to pay. The newly released Dances With Wolves on DVD WHSmith £19.99 + postage £2.74 = £22.73 Play247 £14.99 and of course no postage. Shipping within Europe is free, and that's a word I like, especially as packages are sent via registered mail. I came across this site while at WHSmiths, thinking I'd take advantage of their 3 for 2 offer on DVD's and video games, as usual I had Kelkoo open aswell, every price comparison I selected on DVD's Play247 were the cheapest. Further investigation and even with the 3 for 2 on Smiths 247 worked out cheaper for three DVD's. Also instore are Music CD's, and the various console games. The search facility is good and movie/product reviews full of info, and of course a secure server. So I placed my order last Saturday after checking with other Dooyooers how reliable they were, basic thumb
s up and sat back to wait. On Monday I received an email asking me to confirm my address and which bank issued my card, whether this is common practice I'm unsure. I was able to track my order down to the minute it is posted online via the easy log in procedure. This morning -Friday- my order arrives, my only question is why do they package each product separately? Surely they could save £££ on sending items altogether? Instead I had several registered packages with a postie happy that I was in to save him writing out numerous 'collect' cards. Any way, I'm happy I've got my bargains andI'll be back for more. Now does anyone want to buy a few videos...loads to choose from...

- 06/05/01 Great op - I think they are great. They ship seperately because of the Customs thing - seperate DVD's up to £18 don't get opened and because you might order 3 DVD's of which 1 might be out of stock. Its easier to send them out seperately & you get those which are available. You do accumulate a load of jiffybags though !! |

- 06/05/01 Shallow, ran a few tests on QXL for some videos, seems everyone is upgrading to DVD. Lucky to get £2 - 3 for vids (not including p&p) |

- 06/05/01 Why not sell all your old videos on eBay or Yahoo auction sites, I bet you'd be surprised how much you can get for them. |
