Advantages: Interesting range of goods

Disadvantages: High delivery charges

I have been a member of the QVC television shopping channel since it started over seven years ago and in general have been very happy with the goods and service.

As we have a Sky analogue dish that will soon be unable to receive QVC I have started to use the website.

The navigation of the site is simple being set out in departments. If you want to search for a specific product I find the search usually comes up with what I wanted.

Delivery is generally within the five to seven working days they promise and I have only had to complain a few times over the past seven years.

A benefit with QVC is that they only sell items that are actually in stock so you never get the excuse that they are awaiting delivery from the manufacturer. On the odd few times things have gone missing they have sent a replacement or refund in a reasonable time. If something doesn't arrive in the time stated , phone customer services and they will send a claim form giving you the choice of a refund or replacement. This is dealt with fairly promptly.

I have used the 28 day money back guarantee a few times and my money has always been refunded without question. This is unusual guarantee because it allows you to send back items that you have actually used including earrings for pierced ears and cosmetics. Which I haven't found with any other company so far.

On a payment point, one of the benefits with QVC is that they do not debit your card until they send the items unlike some other companies.

The one bugbear I find with QVC is the high cost of postage and packing. The charges vary but start at £2.45 per item. There is a multi purchase discount if you buy more than one of the same item the second and subsequent items are charged at half the p&p. But the items have to be exactly the same, so if you bought a lipstick and wanted to buy it in two different colours you would be paying £4.90 just to have them posted to you. I thin
k a system where the goods were packed together and you paid per order rather than per item would be better.

I find the range of items is good and you often see things that you can't get easily anywhere else. I am addicted to the beauty and craft departments which cater well for skincare and cross stitch respectively.

But I started my piece by saying don't be too impulsive, it can be easy to get carried away and buy a lot of things that you don't really need. Especially new gadgets that look great on the website but you find they only get used once or twice a year.

If you watch the TV demonstrations and you are not quite sure if you want something but you are worried it might sell out, order it by cheque, think about it for a day, then if you still want it telephone customer service and change the payment to your card. If you have changed your mind and no longer want the item it is much easier to cancel the order by telephone.

The QVC site does not have order tracking like some others but I do find the customer service line is good and it doesn't cost a penny.

Internet shopping, catalogue shopping, TV shopping, high-street shopping, door to door shopping, car boot shopping, the whole first world is shopping mad. Good op though!
