I'm not particularly fussy when it comes to where I do my food shops, although I would say that Tesco is probably where I shop the most regularly due to their 'price drop' deals. Me and my boyfriend were shopping in Sainsbury's a few days ago and picked up one of their free leaflets which had a number of discount codes for first time online shoppers. There was £10 off £50 and £15 off £80 so I decided to do a big online shop as a fifteen quid discount is hard to turn down! Having never used the Sainsbury's online grocery website before, it did take me a little while to get used to the layout and search options but I soon got used to it. The first thing that I needed to do upon reaching the Sainsbury's online groceries home page was enter my post code to check that they delivered to my area. This was a simple process and it took less than 20 seconds to find out.The next thing I needed to do was browse the different sections of the site to find what I wanted. There are a number of different sections (the online equivillant of aisles) which are marked clearly.
There's a frozen section, food cupboard section and so on. Once you click on the section that you would like to browse, it will take you to a new page which has a list of different foods, for example if you click onto the food cupboard tab you will be greeted with a list including cereal, canned fish/meat, oils, etc. Once you decide what you want, eg oil, you simply click this option and you will be greeted with a page with a list of the different types of oil. You then need to select the type you would like and you will be directed to yet another page, this one being the page with the prices and the ability to add a product to your trolley. The layout is simple once you get used to it, but as there are so many options and different pictures I found it a little overwhelming at first, however I do like that they put the products that are on offer at the top so they are easily visible. I didn't realise this until around ten minutes into doing my shopping, but on the right hand side near the top of the page there is a search bar. This is a much quicker way of finding what you want.
The shopping basket is on the right hand side and as you add items to your trolley it lists them. There is the option to delete an item from the basket or increase the quantity of an item. As I chose a lot of products on offer, I was confused as to why under the 'savings' heading it said £0.00 when I knew I must of saved at least £20 in deals. After a lot of fiddling about I realised that in order for the savings show up you need to book a delivery slot. Delivery slots cost £6.75 on orders below £40 no matter what time your shopping is delivered. Shopping over £100 is entitled to free delivery which I think is good and shopping between £40 and £99 can be delivered for between £3.75 and £5.75 depending on the time of day you get it delivered. Mornings are more expensive while evenings (after 7pm ish) are the cheapest. I feel that the delivery charge is reasonable and I paid £3.75 for my 7pm-8pm delivery slot on a Monday.
Once I had done my shopping on the website and had chosen a delivery slot, I clicked onto the checkout button which was clearly visible due to being right near the basket. I was instructed to register, which took very little time, you simply need to fill in your address, email, contact number etc and I was then shown all the deals that I had missed out on and was given the option to add them to my basket. I was then taken to the payment page, which is easy to use. I found it easy to apply my £15 discount code to my shopping and felt assured that the paymeny page was secure. Once I had filled my details in it was nescessary to put my Sainsbury's password in before confirming my order. My payment took around 3 minutes to process and once it had processed I was taken to a page confirming that my payment was successful and it had my delivery time as well as the total amount that my order came to.
My shopping was delivered on Monday and it was delivered 15 minutes early which was no problem for me as the driver did ring before hand to ensure that I was in. The driver was pleasant and helped me with my bags as I had lost the use of my right hand due to having my daughter (who is majorly clingy at the minute due to being ill) in one arm and the shopping bags in another so the driver was kind enough to bring the bags into the hallway without being asked. The driver asked me if this was my first order as he recognised the house and looked at me really suspicicously, so I replied yes, then quickly added that we had only just moved in to the house. We had a bit of a laugh and then he handed me my receipt and off he went to do another delivery.
There were a lot of bags, some with only one item in which I found strange, but I can always use plastic bags for rubbish etc so this wasn't much bother, I just felt it seemed a little wasteful. The frozen things were packed in one bag while the veg etc was in another. The eggs were packed securely and had not been broken. All of the fresh produce was fresh apart from one mango, which was very soft and browning slightly. The meat had good use-by dates apart from the salmon, which needed to be used the next day. Once I had checked all of my shopping and put it all away, I checked my receipt. I was pleased to see that the £15 discount had been applied and the receipt also included how much I had saved on multi-buys. The page included with my receipt informed me that one of the products I ordered (courgettes) was not available and there were no substitutes available, which is fair enough in my opinion, I'd rather them not substitute it if there are no suitable substitutes as I've recieved ridiculous substitues a number of times from Tesco which is annoying.
Overall, I am very pleased with my first experience of using Sainsbury's online groceries and I will be using them again. Fab service, no issues with the products sent and the prices (including delivery charges) are reasonable.
