Advantages: Easy, prompt., Care taken to satisfy.
Disadvantages: Takes a while navigating the site.
I first used Sainsburystoyou.co.uk last week, and what an experience! I will briefly outline the benefits and drawbacks:
-Convenience-
It is very convenient. Just register, login, and start shopping. Browse through the aisles, or seach for a specific product. If you can't finish your shopping list, then go back to it at a later time.
-Choice-
There, is of course, a huge choice of produce to choose from, and it's all available online, from the delicatessan to the bakery. The customer can specify his preferences as regards fresh produce, ie, how ripe, how long, how short, how many. The selector will endeavor to meet your requirements.
-Packing-
Great care is taken with the packing. All frozen goods are kept seperate, and household goods are packed seperately from the food.
-Delivery-
You can arrange what time is convenient for delivery, usually next day, and within a two hour time slot.
-Charges-
You pay for your shopping by credit card, along with the delivery charge, which is £5. Considering that the shopping is done for you, and delivered in chiller vans at a time convenient to you, I think it is excellent value. When the driver arrives, he will run through with you any items that are not available, including any that have been replaced with something similar. If you don't like the replacement, you can say and it will be removed. The whole system seems flexible and the customer care staff are eager to help.
The drawbacks I found, are that the initial process of shopping takes quite some time. I took around three hours to find my way around the site and order around £60 worth of shopping. There is no substitute for picking your own food, but, in this day and age, I can see that this service will be very useful to a lot of people.
If your shopping doesn't really vary that much, next time you login to the site, you can click on 'your usual'. This saves much ti
me as you briefly edit an almost complete shopping list. Overall, the service was excellent, and will no doubt gain popularity. Give it a try, if only for a change!

- 09/10/01 Although I have bought items off the Interent I have not done any grocery shopping that way yet. I am still a bit sceptical about the quality of fresh products that you may receive. Perhaps I will give it a try sometime. Thanks for the info. |
