“ Cheap prescription glasses and sunglasses online delivered worldwide. Prescription glasses and sunglasses sent direct to you. „
Opticians don't recommend buying varifocals online but Selectspecs seemed competent in this respect so tried them even though they not the cheapest. Sent them my old glasses to check I'd got the PD right as it vital with varifocals (which I hadn't). Noted from reviews that the main complaint is that you have to wait about 3 weeks. But good tracking system and sure enough that's how long they took. Lenses were thinned and frames were perfect (other than a very small adjustment with heat from a hairdryer needed to bend the temples for an absolute fit). So will certainly buy online and thru' Selectspecs again as they have the right frames available and save at least half the price than that I was quoted on the high street (£270 v £619).
There are often two reasons as to why I desire a new pair of glasses so suddenly; either because I keep losing my original pair or I become easily bored with my current ones and wish for a change of style for a cut of the price, this is why I looked at select specs.
At first I was unsure as to whether the website was legitimate or not as no one I knew had bought from here beforehand and I'd not previously heard of the site as I merely googled prescription glasses online. The only way I could prove the validity of the website was to check money saving expert forums and see what people had to say and if they actually received their order, and they did.
So once I found a pair that I liked (pastel pink, completely gorgeous!) I was given a list of options for frame and lens pricing, they have a range of offers available but the standard lenses come with free UV protection and scratch resistant coating. You can choose to have extras such as tinting or varifocals for an extra fee, but standard lenses with added protection are completely free - which makes it even more of a great deal.
None of them are designer brands and this is why they are so cheap, they are just run of the mill glasses that are great value for money. However I would not advise them as your main pair of glasses purely down to my own experience with finding them a little heavy and tight after a while and prefer to switch to my others some days (the one's I initially got from the opticians). My frames were from the plastic frame range and they are strong and durable as far as I've come to see, however the plastic is cheap and are basically coated with enamel or plastic paint. Although you cannot tell visibly and they look absolutely fantastic too look at. The only way you are able to tell is by the weight of them as they are light weight and make you assume that they are flimsy and will not last - I can assure you that this is far from the case as I wear them every day and I've accidentally sat on them a couple of times and haven't snapped or bent out of shape once. So really I adore these glasses, because they don't scratch, they don't break and they're absolutely adorable.
The only down side is that you may find them to be a bit irritating on the ears and nose area; as when you go to an opticians you can try glasses on and get them fitted properly - this is the risk you take for buying them on line so there is no guarantee that they will be as comfy as your normal ones.
When you order your glasses you fill in your details about your lenses that you should have been given your prescription paper from when you had your eye test (there will be numbers shown in exactly the same manner as it is on the paper, all you need to do is type these numbers in and you'll have the correct lenses for your glasses) If you do not have this information available you can contact your optician for it. They also offer you the choice to send a copy of your prescription to them and they will use that to create your lenses for you, this is if you have difficulty understanding or not having the same information required. There is plenty of help on the website to tell you what you can do, it's really easy.
I can tell you now that I had a bit of a panic when I saw that once I ordered them and received an email with a tracking number that it linked me to hong kong mailing centre and found out that their offices and products are located in hong kong. This rang alarm bells for me that my product may disappear and I'd have a load of hassle to deal with in regards to it. WRONG! Nothing bad happened, the glasses arrived within 2-3 weeks which is brilliant considering it takes around 7 days to produce the lenses and fit the glasses. The wait can sometimes be longer around 4 - 5 weeks, however do not panic because they will help you and they will refund you. You get a tracking number with standard delivery and you can also opt for insured delivery also, however I went with standard delivery and everything was great.
Because of the long delivery time I would not rely on them if you have no other pair of glasses or contacts as there is no saying on how soon they will arrive as they have to go through customs and be sent out to a number of different mailing centres before they get to you. Patience is the key with this one, I admit that I didn't have any purely because I'd never bought from them before and I was also very excited about having pink glasses for the first time.
Thus concluding, If you're like me and you're prone to becoming bored of your glasses or have a habit of misplacing them for days on end, they're great to save a load of money and buy some spare pairs instead of forking out a ridiculous amount of money at the opticians!
The glasses took so long to arrive, I had forgotten I ordered them. Prescription was OK, but they had sent wrong colour frames. I sent photo, and a photo was sent back to me of totally different colours! Their Customer services treated me like I was an idiot, so as a pensioner, I now have glasses I cannot wear (they sent white glasses) and I have lost the money paid. Would never recommend this company, as only interested in your money and not in treating the customer as they should be treated.Lots of other companies out there!!
I have ordered 3 times over the last 2 years. With the first order, the price/quality/timescale and service were great. The 2nd order was good too. However our recent order has received a very poor level of quality and service. We ordered 3 specs and 3 extra cases. 1 case was sent within 10 days but other 2 took several weeks of communication - and they seem to be sent from within the UK.
Glasses - quite another story - 3 pairs coming from Hong Kong. 1st pair took 4 weeks, arrived unusable as the nose pads fitted serously incorrectly - the RMA asked me to send pics, which I have but still waiting on reply weeks later.
2nd specs arrived after 6 weeks and one lens was rattling loose in the case. Not good. Asked to send pics of it...then asked to return them - postage would be refunded if it's a bonafide problem. Specs arrived back 1 week later but still not a great fit.
3rd specs (according to online progress) sat in quality control for several weeks. They were eventually despatched and have still not arrived 4 weeks later.
Really poor service. Online chats always led me to being told to wait another 2 weeks for delivery. This was not a cheap order (£200) to summarise :
1 really unusable pair of spectacles
1 uncomfortable pair of spectacles
1 missing pair of spetacles (the expensive ones)
3 cases after several online conversations.
and they, of course, took full payment up front.
I have tried to contact Select Specs but unable to as their site is down. I wonder why they don't have a telephone number that they can be contacted on......just email. fax or online chat, when available.
I read the numerous recent poor reviews (here and elsewhere). We decided to ignore them as we have had good service in the past. We seriously regret placing business with them a 3rd time.
Granted they do offer apparently good frames at a resonable price. However that is if the goods arrive and in a usable condition. Problems with one pair could be considered unlucky. Of the 6 items ordered only 1 case arrived promptly without hastle, 2 pairs of specs are not being used and 3rd pair are still AWOL. Are we just unlucky or has this company now got a problem with quality control and timescales? I doubt we will be returning customers and definitely can't recommend Selectspecs. There are plenty of other companies to try.

Being a mum of a toddler and needing to wear glasses all the time, i was finding that they were being mishapen by little hands pulling at my face or dropping them on the floor. At £100 a pair it is not very economical.
I had heard about this website and decided to give it a look. You will find it easily on the net if you type in Select specs, and once on the website, you will find a large range of glasses. The site caters for single vision, varifocal and prescription sunglasses too. You will need an up to date prescription, but the optician undertaking your eye test should give you this regardless.
There are several price ranges listed under Budget, bronze, silver and gold, with the designer range being seperate. I chose to go with the budget range initially not wanting to put lots of money into something that may not be of good quality, but i was very pleased. I chose 2 pairs of glasses for the grand sum of £6 per pair. With your glasses you get a plastic capsule type case, with cleaning cloth, anti reflective and an anti-scratch coating (mot of which woud be extras on your high street prescription). THere is about 20 designs to choose from, and as you can imagine in the budget range not too elaborate. I chose the savannah in black, which are a balck plastic framed glasses, and the second pair were black framed ( alittle bigger than the savannah) with white sides. For a grand fee of £15 including postage, bargain!
As you can imagine for this price there is not fitting service, but to be honest, with plastic framed glasses, they are pretty generic. My glasses had arrived within 2 weeks, with an offer if i placed a further order.
When choosing your glasses, it will tell you if the frame will support your prescription (varifocal for example). You then choose a colour, if there is this option on the frames. You have to input your prescription which is self explanatory if you ave it to hand. The whole process takes about 5 minutes, and it is at this point where you can chosse to have polorised lenses, reaction type lenses or a tint to the glass. (these are at exrta cost). For my purpose i kept it basic!
I have used this service for 2 years now, and have about 6 pairs of glasses due to their price, to go with different outfits, lol.
I cannot comment on the other types as i have just stuck with the budget brands, does perfectly for me, and noone has guessed how little i have paid for them.
You get what you pay for, so dont expect D and G glasses for £6. However, they fir the purpose and are comfortable too.
4/5 for me, as there is no fitting service.
I have seen quite a few bad reviews for Select Specs, mostly regarding the delivery time. I decided to order with them anyway as luckily I wasn't in a rush to receive my glasses. I ordered two rimless pairs and one framed pair of glasses all with the same prescription (distance). I only wear my glasses for driving and watching TV mainly, so it wasn't massively important for me that they were of particularly high quality. Due to this fact I decided to buy cheaper glasses priced at £14.50 each. I placed my order in the evening on 6th June 2011 and received my framed pair on the 16th June (within 9 working days) and I received my two rimless pairs today on 20th June (within 11 working days). I have to say how impressed I am with their delivery, particularly because although they are a British company based in Kent, they actually manufacture and ship their glasses from Hong Kong. They allow you to track your glasses through manufacture via their website and they notify you once they have been despatched. So I have absolutely no complaints about their customer service or delivery times.
Also, I have to say that the glasses are pretty much what you see advertised, they are not the most amazing quality, but for what I have paid, I feel that I have had an amazing deal!!! To be able to buy rimless glasses for £14.50 is incredible, and they are perfect for what I need. I have to say that the free cleaning cloth and case are pretty horrible, but they do the job!!! And for transportation purposes the cases are suitable enough to ensure that my glasses turned up undamaged, so I really couldn't ask for more!!!
Obviously only time will tell if these glasses are up to the job. But for the price I paid, I can easily purchase some more without it breaking the bank.
Overall I am a very happy customer and will definitely be using them again in the future!!!
I ordered a pair of designer D&G prescription glasses from selectspecs.com thinking I was paying less than everywhere else. How wrong I was.
Not only have I ended up paying roughly the same price as other websites but this company dont even have a phone number to contact them on (I should have known really) as they claim thats how they keep their costs down - Call me stupid but surely paying a member of staff to reply to emails is comparatively the same price as paying a member of staff answer the phone to a customer? You'd think huh.
I have been in dire need of my glasses as I am getting bad headaches, I emailed the company on the 21st Jan and was told my "glasses should be ready by next week". I also asked if they could hurry my order as soon as possible as I was in such dire need - no reply. I then email again on the 27th Jan to ask where my glasses were as they were supposed to be ready by now. They replied saying "Your order is due for completion either just before or just after this coming weekend, please accept our apologies for the delay of your order" - I replied saying could you PLEASE make sure these are ready before the weekend and shipped - you guessed it, no reply. I then wrote AGAIN on 28th checking my glasses would be ready and surprise surprise - I get this "Thank you for your email, your order is going to be complete after this weekend". Basically they have completely ignored my requests to expedite this order by not even having the decency to acknowledge my emails. I wrote back asking why they had not replied to my request for this order to be expedited and threatening a bad review and GUESS WHAT - no reply.
Its now "after the weekend" and my glasses still haven't shipped. The company dont care about the customers, if they wanted me to repeat my business with them they would have bothered acknowledging my requests. I wish I hadn't of spent £100 with them and have no fear, DEFINITELY wont be using them again.
My Ralph Lauren distance glasses arrived scratched (frames and lenses), presumably from lack of care when assembling the glasses. Other than this, they arrived in a reasonable timeframe (about 3 weeks), in nice packaging etc.I contacted customer service, who sent me an RMA label. It was not freepost, and they have not offered to refund my postage. They have informed me they will issue replacement glasses, but turned down my request for a refund, as the glasses are a personalised item. This is despite the fact that they will have to make NEW lenses and frames anyway.I want a refund so I don't have to deal with them again, given their performance on the first pair of glasses. Hopefully the replacement pair is not scratched.
I ordered my glasses on September 11, 2010. Per the SelectSpecs website they were mailed on September 24,2010. Here it is October 10, 2010, still no glasses. The SelectSpecs website states it can take up to 10 days for delivery but in most cases the glasses arrive before 10 days. It's now been 17 days, still no glasses. I send packages to the UK every year and the longest it's ever taken for a package to get to the UK from Iowa in the US is 7 days. I can't understand where my glasses are and why would it take so long? SelectSpecs should offer their customers their choice of mailing options because it appears to me that my order was sent surface mail, not air. I would have gladly paid more for postage to get my glasses in a more reasonable time frame. When and if I do get my glasses they may be the best pair of glasses I've ever had but because of my frustration with the delivery I will never order from SelectSpecs again. I will opt for another online eyeglass company.
I have wore glasses for most of my life and personally feel they should be free its not my fault I was born this way, I didn't ask to wake up and the first thing I have to do is scoot for my glasses, I swear they move in the night. My eye sight is quite bad I am short sighted and my prescription is -6.50 in my left eye and -6.00 in my right. basically I would never cope leaving the house without my glasses or lenses.
Growing up it was a huge thing wearing glasses and when I swapped to contact lenses I felt less out of place, school is a cruel world and my glasses were the free ones then you know the big 'Deidre Barlow' kind oh the shame! They were free but they were awful! It put me off wearing glasses for years but as I got older I realised you know what wearing glasses isn't the end of the world, though they are a pain when it rains. Anyway it was during this revelation that I went to high street optitions to discover that a nice frame would set me back £200 I nearly died and when they told me this was without the lenses they were a extra 60 because my eyes are so bad and I could not possibly have normal lenses without them looking like 'jam jar bottoms' I think the phrase was they used. I quickly asked for my prescription and left the store. Knowing you can buy pretty much anything on the internet these days I googled glasses online and sifted through a few sites that seemed promising til you were hit with the hidden cost at the end and then I found selectspecs.com and I haven't looked back.
They sell a wide range of glasses for ladies / men and unisex including different types of lenses i.e varifocal, bifocal. The do rimless, semi-rimless and designer frames as well as cheap and cheerful ones. The glasses actually start from as little as £14 with postage and packaging and that includes free lenses. They also sell sunglasses, glasses accessories and will also reglaze your old frames.
Once you have picked the frame you want you click on them you are then given the option of choosing your lenses

I usually have thin and light lenses with anti reflection and scratch resistance for free!!!! Brilliant better than having heart failure and thinking of taking out a bank loan hey.
Once you have choose your frame and lenses you simply put in your prescrition details which you can get from your optition you need to know- Sphere SPH, Cylinder CYL, Axis and addition ADD for each eye. You can fill it in yourself or fax or post your presription to selectspecs.com. You also need to know you Pupillary Distance the distance between your pupils I usually just click on the average and have never had problems however you can order a ruler from the site to measure it yourself or again ask your optition, some may not be as helpful as others but mine is quite good he can't believe I get my glasses so cheap and he can't match the price so he lets me get on with it.
The range of glasses is brilliant and I have been using them for years now its good that I can order a couple of pairs without breaking the bank. The glasses take around 2 weeks to come (I think they come from Hong Kong the envelope normally has a airmail sticker on when it arrives but thats fine I don't mind waiting if I am saving so much money, the glasses always come in a hard case so are in one piece when they arrive. I have had around 8 pairs now never paying over £30 for them and every pair has fitted perfectly and been in the best condition when they have arrived.
Recommended for those who want a nice pair of glasses without breaking the bank.
Very disappointed with this 'company'. Ordered glasses on the 1st July, advising that it was an urgent order,as my current glasses are broken. Emailed back quite quickly with a response that they were out of stock of the particular frame, offered a very silimar alternative, to which I accepted.
Heard nothing from them in two weeks, to which I looked up the status on their website. This had not been updated from the day I have ordered them ( they have a tick box system which shows when order place, when lenses are in etc).
I sent them a message on their internal messaging system on the 20th, 21st and 23rd- to which they did not respond to at all ( they say to check junk email, to which I did and they definately did not respond).
This is not acceptable, they do have a telephone number to call ( they say to keep costs down???) - i ask what professional company does not have a phone number, has a P.O. box number for address and does not answer emails, three weeks after an order was taken and the money has been debited from my card.
I have contact my credit card company to advise that this transaction now seems to be fraud.
Since I have done that they have contacted my once , to say that the frames had to be ordered in from Italy ( Remember they advised me earlier that they had these frames in stock?) and the lenses had been sent to Japan to be made?
If I wanted a worldwide production with these glasses I would ordered them myself online from overseas and prepared myself for the wait ( which is why I did not do this, on this occasion, as I needed them urgently).
I say company in the lose term, as I not really sure what kind of operation it is, what professional outlet holds no stock, sends all round the world without informing the customer of the wait and does not communicate with them at all ?
I would not recommend this ' hobbiest' or bedroom production ( which is what they come across as) to anyone and will be pursuing my claim with the credit card company.
+++Just a quick follow up, glasses ordered on the 1st July, todays date is 26th AUGUST !!!!, still no glasses, no response from company ( it seems they feel the need to communicate with their customers, through review sites, how unprofessional is that! ++++++
Think VERY carefully , before placing order, they may SEEM cheap, but if they never arrive it is a very expensive nothing, is it worth the gamble- in a word NO.
UPDATED: Glasses now here!!!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Found some D&G glasses was chuffed to bits as they were slightly cheaper than i'd seen elsewhere and really stylish.
With the good bits out the way now the bad:
Placed my order, waited a week, having not heard anything other than my confirmation email i checked my online account to check order status. No evidence of any order.
No problem i thought i'll just call them its obviously a mistake i have my confirmation email. "selectspecs are a online supplier and as such are only contactable through email via the website". This is repeated in a message on the only telephone number i could find for the company found buried in there T&C's.
Did email work? No. I've sent 5 emails detailing my order number and have had no reply even thought they promise to reply 1-2 days or 72 hours (i dont understand that bit either) weeks have passed still nothing.
No responce to emails, No phone number, PO Box address...
End result: pursuing claim through the credit card company for my money back.
After expressing my dissappointment on MoneySavingExpert a representitive responded to my comments offering to resolve my complaint. this shortly after 7 hours of posting. Shortly after i got a responce from there website.
Sure enough a week later my glasses arrived which it would seem is worth commenting on.
Fit Style 10/10. Fit very nice on the face and the perscription is perfect so well done specsavers too i guess
Packagaing 9/10 i paid extra for the case little stingy i thought so marked down 1 point but otherwise the quality again is really good (D&G case).
Customer feedback 7/10 VERY SLOW and at times frustrating as you cant reply to the emails your sent. That is until presumably my complaint was esculated then i seemed to be able to talk to just one person, not several.
Would i recommend selectspecs... hmmm... honestly?? The glasses are beautiful and well presented they were well packed. I'd definately recommend them had i not had the complications; however frustrating it was (and i cannot put into words how much so) at least i have my glasses now.
Thanks for reading hope this helps
Please note: I would recommend selectspecs.com but only to people who are not is a hurry.
I was only looking for a few cheap pairs of glasses as I do not ware them everyday and selectspacs certainly fit the bill in this respect. I compared other providers and selectspacs had a good range, the best prices and I had heard of them before. To be honest, I was expecting the glasses to be cheap looking and for the lenses to be thick but this was not the case
This review is extremely 'fresh' I received my order today (8/6/10) and can now provide a review of my experiences with selectspecs and of the products I received.
My order was for 3 pairs, one for myself semi-rimless and two for my partner as she too was intrigued by the low prices and designs on offer.
Placing an order with selectspacs.com was very easy, they also accepted paypal as a payment method which was my preferred option as it was quick to log in and pay rather than finding my cards and entering all the data. I found there website easy to use which is important for all online shopping, but I think especially here as I was new to buying glasses online and needed clear instruction and guidance - all of which was provided. After placing the order the usual e-mails are received and then begins the long wait for the order to arrive.
What I was unaware when placing my order that these glasses are made and shipped from Hong Kong, which to be honest I should have found out before placing the order and if I did I am sure I would have still placed the order anyway. I was not happy with the delivery time, even for Hong Kong this was a long wait and took over 8 weeks from placing my order to receiving it.
When they did arrive the glasses were well packaged and each pair came with a simple but sturdy black case with cleaning cloth.
---Tell me about the glasses---
They are well designed, sturdy and better than expected. It is true my expectations were low, especially after the long wait. I put it down to you get what you pay for but to my surprise the glasses were more than suitable. I found the lenses to be thin (i did not upgrade to thinner versions) and the glasses are lightweight.
My partner ordered a blue colour frame on one of hers which has turned out to be very attractive - I would say even better than the picture on their website.
I paid around £8 per pair.
---Would I recommend this service?---
Yes I would to the consumer who wishes to buy some of the cheapest glasses available. If you are not in a hurry, are buying as spares or just to try some different designs then give selectspecs.com a go.
See my review about Tesco Opticians, if you combine these £5-£8 glasses with a free eye test then you are really saving money!
I have resolved my customer service issue with this company and am now satisfied with the outcome and would rnow ecommend them this glasses supplier to people as a good reasonable price service.they supply have good quality glasses at a very reasonable price their range is extensive and good value for money their budget range is good and very reasonable price their customer service is slow but effective in the end.
I have had dealings with a lot of opticians on the internet and this company have the over all bets all round service especially on price and their delivery is not to long can only say if you want pescription glasses and dont want to pay to much then this is the company to deal with hope this review is of use to some off you as it is completed after a lot of consideration on this site thanks
Selectspecs are probably fine if you require a bog standard prescription otherwise be prepared for a long wait, I have a strong prescription so I ordered the thinest lenses which Vision Express normally supply in about 10 days, Selectspecs although admitedly cheaper took 6 weeks, when I enquired why they were taking so long I got a huffy reply saying they were not an off the shelf item, the frames had to come from Germany and the Lenses from Japan, if I'd known they were going all over the world I wouldn't have bothered, they give the impression it's all done in the UK. Also the frames were meant to be memory metal but when I accidentaly bent them they stayed bent and broke in the first month , Selectspecs dont advertise any sort of Warranty for accidental damage like a high street optician, I wont be using them again.
