Advantages: Free delivery, Large bargain section, Quick and Easy to Sign up and account managing
Disadvantages: Poor Games section, Sometimes-awkward navigation, Prices/Discounts not quite as good as competition
What first attracted me over to sendit.com was the fact that Dooyoo offer to turn your miles into Amazon or Sendit vouchers. Since I hadn’t heard of Sendit I decided to have a look at the site.
Sendit.com is essentially a DVD/Video site stocking up on just about any DVD you could want from new releases to some quite old ones. I found the list to be generally what you would expect from anywhere that sells DVDs. You could easily find them at Amazon etc for the same price.
They also sell games and ‘stuff.’ 'Stuff' are things like toys, board games, phones and other electrical equipment etc. There are quite a few things here but really not much to be interested in. Strangely I did find an Xbox controller in the stuff section instead of the games section though.
The games section is well… poor to be honest there is so little here I could sit and count how many things there were. I don’t know if at one point they had more here, but considering the amount of games released on each platform there is such a terrible selection. The number of games they have for each system is:
27 PC, 29 PS2, 33 Xbox, 6 Gamecube.
A saving grace might be some of the discounts though. £22 off Lego Star wars, which is the best I’ve seen anywhere. So those Lego and Star Wars fans should go check that out. Unfortunately that’s around the best deal on the site as most games are still near full price and those that do get discounted around only about £5-7 off. If you look at Amazon, most of their games have at least £10 off. Most of the DVDs though that I’ve seen are reasonably priced though, but as I said it is basically a DVD site.
The site layout seems quite bad in places as well. The main page is set out fine with the top ten DVDs, the top 10 cheapest DVDs, some deals on the left, Centre page has a star item, new releases and forthcoming releases. The right side shows some bargains and 2 very small sections for Games and ‘Stuff.’
You easily find anything, as clicking a browse button within the DVD tab will let you look through the various genres. Problems arise though as you can’t sort by price, but only by bestselling and alphabetically so if your looking to just pick up a cheap DVD you could be looking for a while. Also if there are multiple pages of results from your searches there is no page select. Instead there is just a next page / previous page function.
Most sections are laid out in lists with picture, name of the product and price, which works well. But the Games section is completely farted upon. As there is just picture of the games boxes and prices laid out in 2 rows of 6 per page in each section and looks very sloppy. The same is with the bargains page as the just have pictures saying DVDs from only such and such a price. There 45 of these to look through which means it may take a while to find a section you want.
There is a cinema section giving information on new/future releases to the cinema and from Cinema to DVD. It gives a little bit of info on the cinema movies, but not much. Kind of pointless really…
Any help you need to use the site or contact details are easily found on an FAQ tab at the top right of the page. Its also give info on Payment methods, Postage and Packaging, Delivery, International Orders, and Returns. Delivery is free to UK and Ireland customers and they claim most items will be shipped in 2-4 days.
Signing up to the site is easy though as you only have to give your email, password, name and country to sign up without having to worry about credit card details or anything at the time. Once your signed in you can click the ‘my shop’ tab and add in the rest of your details whenever you feel like. You can enter more than one credit card if you want to. There is a hitlist to add items to which you will buy in the future. You can set email preferences to allow the to send you info on new DVD and Game releases which is an interesting feature, but probably not really worth it.
According to another reviewer “your goods are sent in a jiffy bag and surprisingly, considering how harsh the royal mail is...they arrive intact.” It sounds kind of dodgy but I can’t confirm this, as I haven’t ordered anything from the site yet. I shall update this section if or when I do though. However if anyone else has experience buying something from here please tell me.
Overall its an alright site for buying DVDs from, however with so many other site in competition with it such as Amazon it really does nothing to prove its better than the competition. So unless you want a cheap copy of Lego Star Wars while its there, you should probably avoid this site and look elsewhere.
