Advantages: Great prices, Great Service
Disadvantages: p&p not included
Pitched as ‘Britain’s best selling online games store’, Simplygames.com is one of the few gems of online games shopping. You know the players, EB, Gameplay and despite my experiences even Softwarefirst have to feature in there somewhere. There is one more to add though and that is Simplygames. Based on price alone you’d be insane not to at least check them out as they have some of the best prices that you will find. The Site: One of the most crucial elements to any online store is the quality of the website. After all, if the whole thing looks like a dog’s dinner you probably won’t hang around for long. So you’ll be pleased to know that the website is one of the strongest points. It’s bright, it’s colourful and everything seems to be just a click away. The various gaming categories are spread along the top – PS2, PC, Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance and even DVD’s can be found very easily. Just about every main category is there right in front of your very eyes. At the bottom the more serious bits can be found such as Help, Your basket and Account information as well as company information and a reassuring ‘your card details won’t be robbed’ style security statement. One of my favourite elements of the Simplygames site is the intelligent product feature. If you search for a memory card for example and click on the item, you will also see a list of related products such as alternative memory cards and other hardware/accessory items. You could well find products that you never even knew existed. The Stock: Every single item that I have searched for has been on here. That doesn’t mean of course that they stock every single product that you could ever hope for but let’s take GT3 – it’s there (£32.99), Gameboy Advance console (£74.99) and if you absolutely must be first to have something you can even pre-order
titles including Metal Gear Solid 2 (£37.99). Prices are subject to p&p charges (previous customers may well remember that p&p used to be free). I have checked the charge and for a Playstation game it was £1.50. This may well vary for hardware products but all will be clearly displayed when you order. Everything that’s in stock will be available for almost immediate dispatch (first class my friend!) and if you’re submitting a pre-order you won’t be charged until the item is dispatched. You have 28 days to return any faulty items and they promise to deal with any errors quickly and efficiently. The Service: I have been a customer of Simplygames and I have to say that I have so far been completely impressed with all aspects of their service. My order was dealt with quickly and efficiently and I was left with a feeling of wanting to return if I required any other items – this is of course important as regular customers are the key to any online business. Overall: Simplygames.com should be high on your list of online games retailers. Their prices are constantly low, service is excellent and to top it off their website is one that you won’t mind browsing around. They get my seal of approval and you know that if you can’t trust me you may as well give up!! MR.COATES

- 31/08/01 I'd be wary of Simplygames, to be honest. Search on groups.google.com to see the horror stories! |

- 31/08/01 As always, this is my personal experience. I had a bit of a nightmare with Softwarefirst where others have had nothing but great times. Just the way it goes (and the site works for me). |
