Advantages: wide stock, cheap, free postage

Disadvantages: you might never get your goods, they might take your money anyway

I used to be a big fan of splashdvd.com. In fact, I kept meaning to get around to writing a glowing review about them on dooyoo. I can only say now that I?m glad I never got around to doing it, as over the last few months the site has deteriorated beyond all recognition. So much so, in fact, that I?m not writing this as a warning to others to avoid this site at all costs.

Splashdvd sells dvds, videos, music, games and books (which I think are a new addition to the site). I first began to use them because they had an excellent range of foreign movies on DVD at prices that amazed me ? I was getting films for £8.99 with free postage that would have cost going on twenty quid plus postage on amazon.co.uk. My orders always went through without a hitch and my films would arrive a few days later. I never had a single problem.

I thought I had truly found an excellent site selling great products at extremely competitive prices, and with superb customer services to boot. I wanted to spread the word.

And then, a few months ago, I wrote a glowing review of splashdvd.com site on a site called the reviewcentre.com. Almost immediately the review was published, I started receiving comments. Well, no, not comments ? downright abuse. On an almost daily basis readers of this little known site were accusing me of being in splashdvd?s employ and/or misleading people to part with their hard-earned cash for goods they might never receive.

Now all sites have dissatisfied customers, don?t they? Sites are run by humans who occasionally make mistakes. Therefore, I was a little perturbed by all the abuse I?d got, but not too much to prevent me from using the site again based on my previous excellent experiences.

Oh, dear.

I ordered two items: a CD and a DVD. Both were separate orders with different debit cards.

Several weeks passed, and I forgot I?d ordered anything. Then I remembered, and emailed splashdvd about the
m.

My DVD arrived, but in VHS format. It was a present for someone who used both formats, so I asked her if she?d mind the VHS and she said no. I wasn?t happy but I couldn?t be bothered with the palaver of exchange.

Still no CD, however, and no reply to my e-mail. I sent 4 more e-mails, all of which got no reply. It was now 3 months since the CD had been ordered.

Then I got my bank statement, and noticed that the money for the CD had been taken. I sent another e-mail, this time rather threatening as they had taken my money and I had not received my goods.

I got a reply, saying that my CD had been dispatched that very day. It didn?t arrive after 2 weeks, so I sent another threatening email. I got a reply, saying that the CD was out of stock. No mention, however, of the lie they had previously told me about dispatch, or about refunding the money they had taken without any right to do so.

Eventually I did get my money refunded, about 4 months after placing my order, which they had initially told me would be dispatched in 3-5 days!!!

Sadly, I have heard many similar tales to mine from people who used to love splashdvd.com and use them regularly.

It?s a great shame that a once excellent online retailer has gone down the pan so drastically. I don?t know if they?ve changed management, if they?re in money trouble, or what. I just know that I wouldn?t touch this site again with a bargepole.

If you visit splashdvd.com you?ll see a site that looks good, offers a wide range of goods at amazing prices, and claims to pride itself on its customer services and professionalism.

Don?t believe a word of it. You may never get your goods and you could find your bank balance depleted and wait for months for your refund. Avoid this site at all costs.

I wish I had read this before i ordered. I spent £60 on DVD's in January have sent them 4 emails and phoned about 5 times (15mins on hold at 14th in queue for the whole time) and haven't had a reply! Hopefully eventually I'll get my money back!

Dammit! I placed an order with these people last night - oh dear :( Maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones, but I doubt it.
