Advantages: Bargain trainers, random items
Disadvantages: Staff aren't too helpful....
I shouldn't really shop at sports direct because it is owned by Mike Ashley (the owner of Newcastle United) who let's face it, is a bit of a *bleep*. However, I have to admit it is a great shop for sports clothes and trainers and miles cheaper than any of the other sportswear shops.
I always go here for trainers, they have a large selection and they are always quite heavily discounted. If you aren't a brand snob, you can get trainers for around £10 and even if you have to have adidas or nike, you can get a nice pair for under £30. They usually have stands with lots of trainers on in the middle where all of the boxes are out and you can just grab them and take them straight to the cashier. This is quite useful as it means you don't have to wait for somebody to go into the back and hunt out your size. This isn't the case for all of the trainers, the more expensive ones are displayed as normal in shoe shops, but for the cheaper trainers, this is a nice easy method of getting your size quickly.
To be honest, if you can avoid relying on the staff at sports direct at all then it probably best to do so. In my experience they tend to stand around talking (and swearing their faces off!!) to each other and don't look as though they are very willing to help. They never seem to approach you and give the impression that you are disturbing them if you approach them (I'm sorry for actually making you do some work). They are also very slow on the tills (the tills always seem to break too) and they aren't very clued up about the products they sell. Now this is obviously a massive generalisation and I am sure not ALL staff at sports direct fit this mould. However, I would say 99% of the staff I have encountered in these shops do.
Another thing about sports direct is that they always have really random things in that you would never find anywhere else. Once I went and they had a Newcastle shirt in size 8XL. That's extra extra extra extra.... well you get the picture, it's very big! I have never seen a top in that size anywhere before, and all the others were normal sizes. It seemed so random yet so typical of sports direct. Funnily enough I almost bought it as it was only £10 and for all that material... what a bargain!
Summary: Always try here for trainers before paying the RRP at other sports shops!
