Advantages: Easy, quick, accurate
Disadvantages: None for me so far
Over the last couple of months I have used Tesco.com a couple of times when I haven't had Dave around to give me a lift down to the local store.
The website address is www.tesco.com and the home page offers the choice of Tesco Direct, Groceries, Wine by the Case, Entertainment and Digital, Finance and Insurance and Mobiles and Broadband.
I have, in the past, ordered from both Tesco Direct and Tesco Wine and have been impressed with the general ease of ordering, the speed of delivery and the courtesy of the drivers in every case.
I have registered with the site which involved entering my name address, Clubcard number and eventually, after completing my order, my Visa information. This is all stored ready for the next time that I need to order - with the exception of the three digit Visa security number which has to be input each time you order.
This time my order was from the groceries section and the first thing I had to do was to select a delivery time. These are listed in two hour slots with the most popular being the most expensive at £5.50 at the weekend and the least popular being less expensive as little as £3.50 on Wednesday evening.
The groceries section is then further split into food, health and beauty, baby and toddler and house and pet. The food and drink, which was where I was to be doing my main shopping is then split again into fresh food, kitchen cupboard, frozen food and drinks.
Each of these sections is then split into virtual 'aisles' where like products are grouped together as they would be in the actual supermarket. So you would have things such as fresh fruit, bakery and cakes, breakfast cereals, hot drinks etc. When you click on any of the many 'aisles' they are further split - for example the fresh fruit would be split into apples, bananas, pears, oranges etc.
You continue clicking and narrowing down your search until you find the item that you are looking for and you just add it to your basket. You just continue like this until you have chosen all the shopping that you want to buy.
You then have the chance to view your basket and change anything that needs changing. There is also an opportunity to use any vouchers that you may have by just typing in the reference number from the voucher in the appropriate box. Incidentally it is always worth while looking round on the various money saving websites for vouchers offering free delivery or money off your shopping as they are fairly plentiful at the moment. It is also worth entering the Tesco site via any cashback site that you may use as you can often get some cash back.
Mind you I did use cashinco the first time I shopped at Tesco.com and nothing was ever added to my account. I have been having difficulty with cashinco for a few weeks now so I don't know if they are going under.
Anyway back to the shopping.......
My next choice was to say whether I wanted my shopping delivered in carrier bags or in green trays. I chose green trays and this got me 3 extra Clubcard points. It's not a lot but every little helps as they say in Tesco's!
I just had to check and confirm my address, fill in my security number and submit my order and that was that.
I selected a delivery slot of between 12 noon and 2pm on Saturday. I got a call at 12.30pm to say that there were problems with staff shortages and the driver was running about an hour late. I thanked the assistant for his courtesy in letting me know and said that it didn't matter as it happened. The order did still arrive at 1.30pm so it wasn't actually late after all.
The driver was polite and friendly and asked where I wanted him to put the green trays full of shopping. He carried them through to the kitchen for me and I quickly unpacked so that he could take then straight back with him.
If there are any substitutions for products that were out of stock he will tell you so that you can either accept or reject them there and then. He also gives you the final bill which will be slightly different from the total of your shopping basket on the site due to the weighing of any fresh items.
I just had to sign to say that I had received my shopping and off he went.
I was very impressed with the ease of ordering, the speed and accuracy of the delivery and the pleasant manner of the driver. I would recommend this service to anyone!
Definitely five stars from me!
Summary: A great way to do your shopping!

- 17/03/09 Great review, thanks! I particularly like that you can choose trays rather than millions of carrier bags to put your shopping in! |

- 22/02/09 I use them regularly alternating with Sainsbury and they have improved no end over the years - having seen Nar's comment I always use a debit card. As regards Cashinco -- if they are like othe cashback sitges I konw -- they don't give points for grocery shops - |
