Advantages: Collect clubcard points, good service, easy to navigate site
Disadvantages: Ridiculous substitutions
I HATE supermarket shopping, fact, so being able to order my groceries online is brilliant. I've always used Tesco as my main supermarket, mainly because of the Clubcard scheme, so Tesco.com was the obvious choice of online supermarket for me.
The site is pretty easy to navigate, and you have different options to look for what you want so you can browse through the different departments and shelves or you can type in what you want into the search box. However, I find the search facility on this site pretty useless, whenever I search for something it doesn't come up with what I want but if I then browse through the relevant shelf I find they do actually have the product, it just didn't show in my search results.
The more you shop with them the easier it gets though because the items you buy get added to a favourites list so you can choose them from there if you want to buy the same products again.
Some of the items have good descriptions but some just have a picture and no description at all so it can be hard to know exactly what you're buying, which can be frustrating.
Once you've filled your basket the checkout process is pretty easy, you can choose your date and time slot for your delivery, and then you just have to give your payment details and confirm your order.
The delivery drivers are usually really good, but I've had them turn up an hour early before, which wasn't a problem for me but would be if you were only in the house to wait for your delivery. They're always helpful and take my shopping right through to my kitchen for me rather than just leaving it at the front door.
Generally everything I order turns up and I don't have any problems, but on the odd occasions that something on my order has been out of stock they've made some absolutely ridiculous substitutions. There is a box you can tick when you make your order to ask that no substitutions be made, but they don't seem to take any notice of this. I've previously had a Tesco own brand 2kg bag of cereal replaced with a Branded 500g box which cost almost 3 times as much! I don't know who it is that makes the decisions on substitutions, but they can't surely expect anyone to be happy with that?!
The only thing I would not order online is fresh produce as I wouldn't trust anyone else to choose this for me, I like to be able to make sure I'm getting the best quality from what is available.
Even once you've made your order you can update it if you think of anything you've forgotten, which is a very handy feature and also very easy to do!
All in all I think this is a good online grocery service, but I highly doubt if it's the best!
Thumbs up from me.

- 16/11/09 You'd think that a company the size of Tesco would be able to find a box of their own-brand cereal! |

- 26/10/09 They charged me for mine! |

- 26/10/09 They don't charge you extra for more expensive products when they substitute - I realised this recently when they sent me Kelloggs instead of Tesco own cornflakes and I only paid the price of what I ordered. |
