Advantages: Lots of good ideas
Disadvantages: Fundamentals aren't there
I was really please with the whole concept of Tesco home shopping. They had the idea of providing a disc so that you can shop offline, not incuring charges, then spend a few seconds zipping you're order through. Unfortunatly they don't seem to have trained the staff who work packing the orders at all. I ordered over £80 of shopping each time, but under £45 actually arrived as the rest was out of stock. Out of the half that did arrive about £10 was the wrong stuff, (fresh not frozen sausages etc) and another £5 was due to go off the next day, although I had specified not to bother delivering me fresh goods unless they had at least three days shelf life left. So, after all the problems, for £45 plus £5 delivery charge, I received £30 of goods that I actually wanted. I did try them twice, a month apart, so it wasn't just bad luck once. However, it will depend where you live, so you may want to try your area. The site is well presented and easy to navigate, and things like being able to use your club card are a great idea. Its nice to be able to relax while you do it, and not worry about the phone bill. There is the opportunity to specify comments about each product, which is a good idea, although in my case they were ignored. In conclusion, give it a try, your store may well be better.. it couldn't be worse.

- 27/04/01 hehe! we had the funniest incident from tesco Direct! We ordered lemon squash, which was out of stock, so the computer suggested an alternative and we got LEMON FLASH!!!!!! Drink it and weep, tesco!!! |

- 27/02/01 we used to use Texco direct when we lived in Hammersmith (this was when they first started the direct service) and we never had any trouble with the order or delivery or packing. they were great only time ever they were out of our products (dental floss) they had put in a different brand instead and a note saying we could get that changed if we were unhappy with it.. So yes certainly seems like it depends on where you live. We now live 3 mins walk from a HUGE Sainsbury's so it feels like waisting money to pay for delivery but it was nice ;o) |

- 16/01/01 Hmmm, seems it depends on your local store quite a bit. I have used Tesco Direct about 5 or 6 times and they have been fine. There are always a few out of stock items, which can be annoying, especiallly if you order say pitta bread to go with houmous or rice to go with a curry and they are out of stock of 1 item - making the other one a bit useless! (My store is Nottingham Top Valley). I will try Sainsburys soon to compare them. |
