When I was younger in my college days. I used to buy every single one of my clothing items from Topman. I remember logging onto the site at 7am in the morning, just before the sale was about to start.
With the famous "student NUS discount code". I think I spent around £30 and managed to get a brand new wardrobe. Some of the prices in the sales were ridiculous!
But for this review, I'm going to talk about my recent purchases I made off Topman.co.uk
-- What I brought --
I brought some jeans and a plain black jumper as my wardrobe needed a fresh look to it. I didn't get the clothes from the sale section. This is because I tried to look through some of the items and I question why anyone would want to wear any of this rubbish. Either my style is outdated or the style today is to wear t-shirts with pink paint splattered all over them, with the words, "DORK" written in big bold writing. It's certainly a lot different.
Anyway, I paid £25 the jeans and £15 for the jumper. I purchased medium size and managed to blag a free standard shipping code. I paid via Paypal, as I find that the safest way to make payment online.
Delivery took around 3 working days to arrive and the items were as described on the website. There's an option where you can pay extra and get next day delivery. I haven't tried it, but there's nothing wrong in waiting a couple of days to save around £5.95.
I tried them on as soon as I finished work. The jeans fitted perfectly. But the jumper was a bit tighter than the usual medium than I'm used to. The material seemed slightly thinner than I imagined it was going to be to. If you do find a medium size on the Topman website, it's probably best you take the chance with a size bigger, (large size). Apart from the thinness of the material, the clothing were pretty good quality. Much better compared to other budget stores. "Cough Cough... Primark". Although saying that, I did get some holiday clothes from Primark and they did the job just fine, haha.
-- Conclusion --
Overall, I'm pleased with my purchases. To find some normal plain clothes on their website, without the silly words on can be a quite difficult. But they were great quality and hopefully like the other items I've brought in the past they last me a good year or two. The standard shipping is faultless. I don't think it's worth paying an extra £5 for postage.
It happens every so often, I'll be doing something so simple like making a cup of tea or sitting on a subway train and I'll realise about 90% of my clothes are from Topman, so I know from that my opinion on their services is valid, seeing as they're really the only clothes retailer I use on the whole.
The shops themselves are great, nice displays, the mannequins give you inspiration on what to pair with what and the whole shop experience is just generally a pleasure. The people that work there have always seemed more than happy to search for another size or give a suggestion etc so that's all positive.
Same for the quality of the clothes themselves. Personally, I know I wouldn't buy a pair of jeans anywhere else simply because Topman jeans are made of tough stuff, these things LAST. Seriously. I have a pair of jeans I must've bought about 3 years ago and they're still great, you wouldn't know they were old at all.
Price wise is a bit of a sadder story, lately I have noticed things are getting a bit pricier and a bit tackier too. Like they're charging more for clothes that look like they should be going for less. However, on that point if you have a good hoke round the shops or the website even you'll definitely find at least one or two good outfits per season that are worth an instant BUY ME NOW feeling.
Some of the shops themselves are lacking in a lot of the better items on the website, in finding this out I then took to the website in search for better clothes and boy did I find them. They must have at least double the amount of stuff on the website so I would definitely recommend checking that out because you won't be disappointed.
For years I only dealt with the shops themselves, there always seems to be that extra bit of safety in the knowledge that once money changes hands I have my clothes immediately. This idea definitely applies to Topman's website.
Navigating the website is easy enough, it's all categorised into jeans, coats, tshirts etc etc but the more interesting parts of the website are the 'new in' sections, the 'how we wear' sections where they show you how to match up an outfit and the wish list/bag part is handy too where you can balance out a spend but save the other good stuff you want for a later date.
They also have seasonal pages on the website where they showcase the most bought items or the anticipates bestsellers of that season so you won't miss out on what's hot and what's not for that time of the year.
One thing I was a bit apprehensive about was the gift cards and whether or not they can be used on the website; well good news, they can! All you have to do is type in the big 'ol number not the back and scratch off a pin too and you're all set, it gets deducted off your bill at the end. Couldn't be simpler.
My current favourite thing about the website, though, it the online sales. In the run up to Christmas there are LOADS of sales and even when it isn't christmas I'd say they have a sale on something at least once a fortnight, if not all the time. It's fantastic, so always be on the lookout for a nice little chunk off something you've been wanting for ages.
While they've never lost an order, their delivery services aren't great. When they say 'express delivery' really they just mean normal delivery...or even worse than normal delivery, but for twice the price. I've always picked the express so goodness knows how slow the standard free delivery is.
Basically, if you're buying clothes for a particular event of some description like a suit or something more casual...a month in advance is usually a safe bet when it comes to Topman's delivery standards. I've had a few orders come two weeks late, TWO WEEKS, and thats's their idea of 'express'.
I remember being in college and buying all my clothes from Topman, don't get me wrong I buy alot from there still, until I looked on their website this month. 6 years ago printed T-shirts were £12 MAX, and it was great. The quality was good, - I'm actually wearing one of these now, and the print still looks vibrant and I've had no problems with it! In fact all my print tshirts still look great!
Topman have started to change where they want to be seen the market, which I mean is good for them. They want to look like a more expensive brand and more desirable and it is working to some extent. The brainless people who will spend that much on things will still shop there. With their expansion to the US they are ever growing, and so do the prices, which is my main reason for this review.
I have always experienced amazing customer service with Topman. I've never had a problem with them and any problems that do occur, well they are always very helpfull.
The site is really easy to navigate although I do have problems sometimes of everything being deleted in my cart, or products that seem to no longer exist.
My main CONS?
Topman is a great brand that sells great great clothes, but, the reason why such a negative review is simple. I'm not sure what has happened in recent years but they have cut down, and cut down even further on quality.
I now find that tshirts rip easily, my coat pocket broke quite quickly and it could never be fastened up because the buttons fell off! Now i just use it for decoration. - Please note I did contact topman about this who were sorry about this but since they no longer had the coat, they offered a full refund. I declined this as I needed a coat (it was mid winter) and I finally found something I liked!!
My Topman clothes from 5 years ago have lasted longer than tshirts I've bought 5 weeks ago. I heard a rumour that Primark and Topman get produced by the same company, and although I am not saying this is true - as it really is only a rumour. Well, I wouldn't be surprised.
And why would I be surprised? Because I don't believe that for a second since Primark clothes last longer than Topman ones these days!
Like i've said, Topman have great products and great customer service, BUT, are they worth the price tag? No. They really are not. And I really don't understand how they can justify their prices these days.
As the title suggests, Topman is the ideal place for anybody who prefers to dress in the indie stlye. Ovffering everything from shoes to hats, and everything in between - Topman is a must. Most of the time, you can find an absololute bargain whilst scouring the website from the market leader in this style of clothing.
However, my main gripe with this store is the range of prices. It seems to me that for every item that seems to cheap to be true, you get another item that is rather overpriced. On the sit eyou'll find t-shirts for just a few pounds, but jumpers can go for £30-£40. This lack of price consistancy can make it some what of a lottery when filling your basket.
My other problem with the site are the delivery options available. The lack of a free delivery is very annoying, and the best option is for a 3-4 day delivery which costs around a fiver. Quite pricey you may agree, especially if you only log on to buy a really cheap item. I have on occassion had deliveries from Topman where the delivery cost cost more than the clothing.
Overall though if the indie style is prominent in your wardrobe, you cannot overlook Topman to either base your wardrobe around or just top it up with a few items. The mostly cheap items make it a perfect place to shop for me, and if you make large orders, the delivery cost becomes bearable.
But for me I prefer to go instore.
I love Topshop but actually prefer Topman clothes! Although they're obviously aimed at men i'm forever buying jumpers and hoodies from there for the oversized look and i'm always stocking up on the reduced t-shirts for around the house and bed. Speaking of reduced items, Topman usually reduce there products radically. For example a week ago, i bought a cardigan that should bein £48 and had bein reduced to £12, there was XS & XL left so i got both - 1 for me & 1 for my boyfriend! That's the great thing about topman - to an extent there clothing is unisex, apart from obviously the jeans etc. The prices on the non-reduced stock is slightly high but most of topmans products are 100% cotton or 50% atleast, with a few acrylic items too. The jumpers & cardi's are always lovely and thick and cosey, while the shirts are a great material (a majority are 100% cotton) and have a nice feel to them.
The sale page is great and is updated daily with usually 500 plus items reduced, some to 50p/£1.
Delivery is always within 5 days and i normally recieve mine in 2-3 days. It comes in an enviorementally friendly (but strong) paper bag with the topman logo on it. Couriers are always polite. Returns are simple as is contacting customer service. Delivery is £4 but it's EASY to find free delivery codes online as even expired ones still work with my topman account so i'm guessing they will on other peoples accounts too!
The website (topman.com) is great. The homepage is simple with the sale page on the left in big bold writing, and on the left is pictures of a few models with latest trends, spring & summer guides, photo print tees, summer shoes & even some info on an album.
At the top there's some tabs such as;
Suits & Formal
Brands At Topman
Blog (incudes fashion tips & music)
When you hover your mouse over the tab it shows a dropdown of the products in that category. Choose a catergory and the items in that category will appear with clear pictures. If you like the look of a picture you can click on it to view the description, materials the product is made of and more pictures, which includes a zoom in option with clear detail.
Joining up and paying is simple and you follow onscreen instructions.
Topman sizes are as follows;
XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL
Overall topman has good quality products with a wide range of price - some reduced & dirt cheap and some very expensive. I'd reccomend if you see a nice top there to wait a few days incase it gets reduced - but don't wait too long! Topman seems to sell out amazingly quick, so keep your eye on the ball!
5 out of 5!!!
Topman is very in fashion in England, all the latest boys fashion you see on TV is included in Topmans stock and it is quite reasonably priced. Chinos which are very much in fashion now cost £28, some are a little bit more expensive like some carrot style and arc length ones which are also the latest fashion at the moment. Topman also have sales often throughout the year which are well priced and worth visiting. Also, the girls dig the Topman look if you can pull it off! Girls constantly complement me on how I look, whilst some of this is down to the combination of clothes I were, it is also partly due to the Topman fashion. The clothes are of quite good quality but not the best they could be, however this isn't so much of a problem due to the price being reasonable and the clothes lasting a good few months in good quality.
I would recommend checking out the nearest Topman shop near you, especially if you are a teenage boy like me because the clothes will suit you best. Also, it is a good way of picking up girls because Topman and Topshop are usually together so there is a lot of female talent around ;)
Top man also consists of top shop. I think top shop is the better half of the store. They are another of the high street retailers that I think in reference to the mens section, is the worst retailer. I've only ever brought a pair of jeans from top man, and within a couple of months, they had faded and shrunk, so don't bother to shop their any more as I would rather pay a bit more and have a pair of jeans that will last.
I think a lot of the clothes are expensive for what they are. Ok, you can get a pair of jeans for £20, but that's too cheap for them to be any good. And yeah, some can be up to £35-£40, but I wouldn't feel I was getting value for money shopping at top man.
The stores are usually quite small and are jam packed with different clothes. Such as the merry hill store, top man is crammed with clothes and there really isn't much room to move. I don't think I have noticed a mirror for customers to look at clothes they are trying on either.
Top man does have a website but I don't visit it that much. The site is however, very easy to use with a list of products down the right hand side. There is also, always a main advert in the middle of the page showing the latest news, for example, the current advert is that there is a sale on.
They also offer student discount which makes a good way to entice the target market into the store.
Overall, I think top man is a good retailers in terms of fashion, but in terms of quality of both the stores and clothes, I think they are the worst. However, I would recommend them to someone looking for some cheap clothes such as t-shirts as their prices are reasonable.
TOPMAN is the male version of the well-known high street clothing store TOPSHOP. Although previously only catering for a niche market, TOPMAN has begun to sell a wider range of urban/street and fashionable items, making it one of my favourite clothing stores.
The range of products is great. TOPMAN stock everything from Hoodies and T-Shirts to Trunks and accessories. No matter whom you're shopping for, you'll definitely be able to find something for everyone at TOPMAN.
The quality of the goods is also really good. Most items are made from 100% cotton etc and you can definitely tell the difference compared to cheaper brands. Everything that I've bought from them has been comfortable to wear and long lasting, so it's well worth the price.
That said they do suffer slightly from "style over substance" as most of their items are extremely thin (yes, even their "winter" jackets) so they look better. Granted you'll look great, but it won't help when you catch pneumonia, so you'll always find yourself wearing extra items underneath.
Sizing isn't the greatest for TOPMAN either. Being a fashionable company they many only cater to the average teenagers to middle aged. Where I would usually wear small T-shirts from other places, I have to buy a medium/large in "TOPMAN sizes" for it to fit comfortably and not too tight. So unfortunately if you have a slightly large build, you may not fine suitable clothing at TOPMAN. Although sizes range for XXS to XXL they just aren't as accurate as they should be.
Now the main reason why I used to avoid TOPMAN was their extremely high prices, and for such "flimsy" garments it didn't seem worth it most of the time. However during one of their sales last year I bought a few items to give it a try and needless to say I was more than happy with my purchase. Although they can be quite pricey when not in sales, if you time your purchases right you can definitely pick up a great bargain.
Furthermore if you're a student you'll get an extra 10% off with an NUS card, which can mean big savings if you buy quite a few things.
The online store is a great addition to the TOPMAN brand. All items, in season, out of season and on sale can be found which at least 3-4 pictures showing you the clothing for different views. The sizing guides are really useful and represent the actual clothing sizes quite well. The only negative that I have with the site is the high shipping prices. The clothes are sent in flimsy plastic wrap, which really isn't worth the £5 P&P as they could be easily damaged. Thankfully they use HDNL to ship items rather than the dread Royal Mail.
The stores themselves are well set out, there aren't shed loads of clothes all over the place and it's quite open plan so you can see where everything is as soon as you walk in. Customer service is also great from the staff, although I have gotten a few dodgy looks from security guards occasionally. (I guess that's the case for most teenagers/students too though).
Overall TOPMAN is a great store with a wide range of clothing items and accessories that suit most styles. TOPMAN are always releasing new products so whether you want to keep up with the latest fashions or just re-fill your wardrobe you definitely won't be disappointed! I would highly recommend you visit TOPMAN when you're next out clothes shopping. See you there at the January sales!
Topman is one of the top 5 shops that i buy my clothes from. I like topman because they have very good deals on casual wear and this mainly where i get my casual wear from
For example get 2 t shirts for £10, or mix and match t's and vest for £10. I have found that these always go down well when im building up for my holiday, again because it cheap and good quality. I used to always buy my jeans from river island exclusively, but after trying topmans, they are just as good and cheaper, with a range of different styles like boot cut, skinny etc. The clothes are always a good fit, usually a slim fit which i prefer.
The style of clothes too me is kind of indie witha hint of retro in the t shirts which i love. This is reflected in the shoes and accessories. They do a kind of sports pump but i dont rate them too much.
Smart side, im a big fan of the shirts and again the fit. The only downfall is the lack of choice in the suits, its either the slim collar or nothing. The fit with the suits i dont find to be as good as riverisland, especially in the pants.
Staff wise i have no problem with, their customer service has always been very good and i have never had any issues.
For the past 8 years i have always bought my jeans and a good deal of tops from Topman. Yet recently i have found that their clothes seem to be aimed more and more at younger men. I'm only 32 but feel now that their clothes are more for teenagers and early twenties.
The jeans i have had from topman have been great quality and lasted me a long time and continue to do so. I still buy from topman when i find a pair of jeans that i like they dont have many anymore.
Their worker jeans are just great quality fit and style for casual everyday wear. Not so dressy but look smart for day wear.
I find topman to be reasonable for everyday clothes. some accessories can be pricy but jeans and such like are about on par with other places like Next, Burtons. Cheaper than others like USC!
Topman is a popular store in which was first launched towards the end of the 1970's in 1978. It is the male standalone part of the shop Topshop. The headquarters of Topman/Topshop is based in London UK under the Arcadia Group Ltd which also own Burton, Miss Selfridge, Wallis, Evans, British Home Stores and Dorothy Perkins. The total amount of Topman stores is over 175 these stores are all based around the world in the following countries United Kingdom, Ireland, Malaysia, Russia, Australia, Sweden, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, United States and Indonesia.
Pros and Cons
Topman is a very popular shop
Good collection of clothes in store
A cool shop within young people
The clothing looks good
Returns policy is good
Clothing is rather expensive for the quality of the product
Bad quality products
The products are really hard to iron
Topman is generally a shop for young people by young people I would say anyone between the ages of 17 -40. It's more of a shop for teenagers and then up to right before middle ages. I sometimes see people older than that age group shopping in store but I really think that the clothes don't really suit older people and is more for younger people.
When looking at the clothes I think that they are nicely designed and are cool but when you start looking at the prices and feeling the quality I think that is when we are let down with Topman. I think that for the price we are paying for some things like up words of £30 for one shirt can be a rip off even if it does look good the quality of the product will soon come though when you feel it and wear it. Plus the fact that the products won't last for as long because of the quality of them so I don't feel that Topman is very good value for money but they do have a wide selection of products.
When I go into a Topman shop it's just the one in the city closest where I live, it's a fairly small sized Topman their are usually the same staff in their when I'm in their and I often get asked if I need any help or if I want to find different sized clothing. I don't really need any help when I'm shopping but I think that if I get asked if I need any help and the fact that the staff are polite in the shop is a good thing. In some shops I go into nobody approaches me and the customer service can be quite bad so Topman's customer service is very good.
I have only had to return a couple Topman items a couple of times and this has only been because I have ordered something online and the product looked very good but when it got here and after I tired it on I found that what did look very good on the Topman website does not suit me. When I've taken the product back they have been very helpful and I have gotten my money back without any hassle which is always nice hassle free shopping.
I think that the Topman range of products is suitable for Men because it's a male clothing shop. I think that the age range for the products is 17 to 40. I don't think that any ages younger than 17 would look old enough to be wearing Topman clothes and I think that anybody over the age of 40 would look right in Topman clothes because their is an certain youthful look of the Topman clothes.
I don't think that if a family with new born kids then I don't think that it would be a suitable shop for them to shop in.
Price and availability
I think that some of the prices that you can pay in Topman are rip offs for the product quality but then again you will look quite good in the clothes so in a way your paying a big price to look good.
The products are usually available to be ordered in my size or they have my size in the shop. I think that the product availability is very good.
I really think that Topman is a good shop the products look good and the staff are very helpful. I think that the product quality is not very good for the price you pay but then again the products do look very good. Really it's up to you in the end if you want to pay for the type of quality you get.
This review is also on Ciao, Dooyoo and many other reviewing sites
Topman, one of Britains biggest mens clothes retailers, has a high profile online store to match. But is it a user friendly site that is of credit to its stores?
With a clear layout with clothes split into various types, it is a breeze to get around and relatively pleasing to the eye. Viewing garments closely, selecting sizes and adding to wishlists is also simple.
There are quite a few good selections of clothes to allow you to browse freely. Seasonal offers, the latest clothes added to the store, top sellers, top designer brands and the last few of some popular clothes are highlighted and easy to find. Often a good selection fo sale items will be available to. Students, Topmans main market, get 10% off all orders as well.
Shipping has nearly always been quick for me, with 3 days being the general time frame of a standard delivery. Returns are also painless, with returning them instore or sending the items back being very striaghtforward and free.
So Topman.com is a well designed, easy to use and fast service. What more could you want?
Topman.co.uk is the website which offers guys the chance to shop online for their fashion needs from the hugely popular Topman brand.
The website is a well thought out and designed website which offers a simple navigation and ease of use mixed with a brilliant and fresh feel to the entire site which mirrors the fashions on offer with the Topman stores known for offering ultra trendy clothes on the highstreet.
The amount of products on offer are good with jackets, jeans, t-shirts, vests, cardigans, jumpers, hoodies, sweaters, trousers, shorts, shoes, accessories, jewellery and more. The quality of the items offered by Topman are good, well made and very fashionable and trendy.
The products range in prices from the lower end of the market and go into the higher end products but no matter what the price the items are designed well and produced to a good standard.
So what about the delivery I hear you all cry? Orders over £90 offer free delivery but standard UK delivery is £4 for normal delivery or £5 for express with delivery so this is in line with other main line retailers.
The items are delivered within the times stated and are well packaged so that they arrive to you in good order which is yet again something you expect from a major retailer.
- Excellent website
- Easy to navigate and use site
- Excellent variety of products on offer
- Very fashionable products on offer
- Good range of prices allowing you to pick up items for cheap or spend a lot for those items you really love
- Brilliant quality of items which are well made
- Good delivery prices and timescales
This is one of those fashion websites for men that is well worth a look at with simply brilliant products on offer all year around.
Being a naturally very slim man, I am extremely limited with the shops that I can go to for clothes, as most shops start at size Small, which is an absolute nightmare. TopMan on the other hand was probably one of the first to offer extra small clothing and luckily they have great style too!
Topman sell a range of own brand products such as shirts, t-shirts, jackets, jeans, accessories etc. as well as a small amount of branded products, although these are mainly only found on the website.
I would say Topman was suitable for mostly the younger generation, although, if you pick appropriate clothes, I'm sure some older men could get away with it as well. The XS and XXS sizing means that it is popular with the teen generation. I admire Topman for finally catering for what has been a huge gap in the market for many years, before topman, there were no stylish clothes for teenage boys or slim adults.
Based on style, I would say Topman have pretty much set the bar for affordable stylish clothing, no other shop I can think of even comes close to being this stylish at this price.
The Topman website itself is great, although the postage is not free, returns are, so no problems with ordering more than you need just to try them on, as you can always get your money back. Overall an amazing shop, if not for them, I would have nothing to wear!
The top man website is a great starting point when shopping for clothes. I often check here first before a night out, to get an idea of what i want to buy before trailing around the shops.
The website has a massive selection of clothing, including tshirts, vests, jackets, jeans, shoes, accessories etc. Each type is clearly located in a list format and the link takes you to each specific page with those items on. On each specific page, the item is clearly displayed, with a good size real photo and the desciption and price displayed clearly under it. This is good as you can quickly see the price for each item.
I particularly like the fact that on the website, you can see the items which are on sale. I always manage to find a bargin or two on here, as the selection changes constantly and there is always plenty!
On the site, you are able to make your own wish list, personally this is only useful if people read the list lol! A handy little idea though.
Delivery conditions are descibed in detail on the website, but basically each order costs £4 and is delivered in 2-3 days, which i find very reasonable and have had my orders delivered within a few days. You are also able to track the order on the site, which is handy if you post is a bit late and you want to check it has been posted.
To pay for items, you can pay on a range of credit and debit cards and i have always had no problems paying in this fashion.
I have never returned an item so cant give you an opinion on that, but there is a policy online if you wish to return an item.
Overall a great website for men!
