Whether you are just starting out with crafts with the children or have a craft box filled to bursting, Toucan Box is a brilliant subscription service that will soon be filling your (and all your relatives) houses with beautiful works of art in both painting and sculpture form. While your child is having fun creating they are also learning, whether it is about under the sea or what happens when inks separate in damp filter paper (I never thought I'd be teaching a five year old about chromatography).
The choice of three box sizes containing one, two or three crafts means there's something for every pocket and with the choice of paying by PayPal it couldn't be easier to set up a running subscription. If you prefer fixed term, there are various options for this also available along with single, one off boxes.
With everything you need for each craft within the box there's no need to hunt out materials and it's really nice to be able to just open the box and get on with it. We also find the supplied crafts are just the beginning and we are often inspired to search online or create our own crafts on the same theme.
If you have a child aged from around two (with lots of help) onwards, I can't recommend Toucan Box enough and would suggest that if possible you go for the Grande or Super box if you can as the addition of the book is a really nice touch. Saying that the Petite is possibly better if your child gets very excited at the idea of receiving post in their name. Either way my only real issue is that it's not currently possible to run two (or more) subscriptions from the same address.
I absolutely love these boxes! I saw them advertised online and thought I would give them a go as I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter who adores arts and crafts. I am so glad I signed up for them! The smaller boxes are delivered every 2 weeks or the larger boxes are delivered once a month. You can also purchase the bigger gift boxes in between as well. When you sign up you fill in details about your child, their age and likes and hobbies and you are sent a box with age appropriate crafts for you to do with your child. By selecting which topics you would prefer, you can make the box cater for the individual tastes of your child. I have received both the smaller box and the larger one and think they are both brilliant. The smaller one is much better if you are on a budget. I prefer the larger box because not only do you get more craft projects in it, you also receive a book with the box. The last box we had was a dinosaur themed box. Inside there were different dinosaur themed crafts and a dinosaur sticker book. The box before was an art themed box which contained 2 different craft projects and a story about a ballet dancer and an artist. My daughter really enjoys these boxes and I can not recommend them enough! Each box has been thoroughly thought out and planned to suit the child's age. And all the materials for each project are included (bar the scissors).
The boxes themselves are covered in pictures for your child to colour in and you can cut bits out to make little finger puppets from the box itself. Which is a great idea for recycling.
The gift boxes which you can buy are rather expensive but they are enjoyable for children.
Each box also comes with a leaflet detailing different things you can also do at home or outside with your child which correlate with the boxes them. If you have more than one child you can also have 'add-ons' such as more paint and other extra materials.
Overall I think Toucan boxes are brilliant, my daughter and I have had a lot of fun with them and continue to look forward to the next one!
