Advantages: they are perhaps more likely to have the goods in stock Disadvantages: site not secure, badly packaged and late
Last Christmas I was trying to track down a particular toy that I knew toy'r'us stocked. It was within 2 weeks of the 25th and I was loathe to attack the shops. Toy'r'us was the only place I could track it down whilst searching online. As a friend had asked me to get it I felt obliged to place an order but when you read their terms and conditions they do not guarantee that their site is secure and they will not be held responsible for any problems arising. I realise that they are probably airing on the side of caution as I wonder if anywhere is secure after the Panorama programme (5.7.00)but at least etoys carry the can by compensating you if anything goes wrong. I placed the order but wrote an email at the same time telling them that I did not accept responsibilty and to delete my details if their site was not secure and they wouldn't guarantee as such. I never received a reply to my email but they did carry on with my order which was due to arrive 5 days later - the last day before the school holidays started (slow in comparison to etoys). The parcel arrived a few days later than advised (during the school holidays) in a large box which had 'Playmobil' splashed across it (I wouldn't mind but the item was rattling around inside and was a different make!). I wasn't impressed. If they know anything about kids shouldn't they at least try to be subtle and disguise what is obviously a gift for a child. Summary: |
