“ Unique design items and cool typefaces from independent designers available online. „
I stumbled upon this beautiful little website and wanted to share it with the dooyoo community. Typografika uses the art, craft or process of utilising type for aesthetic reasons. I found them on facebook originally as they were running a competition for a really nice bag that I ended up buying (and the matching purse).
What is it?
tÿpografikâ celebrates the art and craft of the letter with a selection of products ranging from the practical and utilitarian to the frivolous and decorative. The website has some beautiful pictures and unusual items for sale and it can be a nice inspirational site to visit for ideas on building your own collection of items with beautiful typefaces.
My experience of buying from this site
As I mentioned above, I bought a small satchel and matching purse that are like air mail maps and envelopes for just under £60. They arrived quickly and beautifully packaged although I have since seen the bag in a shop and on several other people's shoulders.
The site is easy to navigate and has plenty of information for people who love typefaces. One of the main navigation keys is 'Shop' and this breaks down the site into: 3d letters; cards; childrens; gardens; gifts; home; stationery and Vintage & reclaimed. My favourite subsection is stationery and there are so many things on this page I would love to buy, starting with the packs of Japanese paper tape in different widths and some of the cards and journals. Vintage and reclaimed is also interesting with limited editions of some items. You can buy framed American bottle tops and giant letters once used in the printing process. Glass lab jars, coloured yardsticks and reels of vintage cotton also feature. In the gifts section, you can get pretty cotton pillow cases with mr and mrs on - an ideal engagement or wedding present. Purses, bags, candles and bangles, all with a vintage look to them.
This is a really unusual website with beautiful pictures and it's really interesting just to have a look around the site. If you are struggling for a gift you will probably find something suitable on this site. Standard delivery is £5 (with exceptions listed) so it's worth putting an order together to save on postage. My bag and purse are nice, but looked better in the picture if I'm honest. Part of the thing is buying online; you can't feel and try things the same as in a shop and my bag is satchel style and has two buckles as fastening, I would prefer a hidden press stud beneath the clasp as it is fiddly to close but I do love the look of the bag, it just wasn't quite as good as I was hoping. The purse is nice but the pale blue lining inside promises to age quickly once it is used for a while and the zipped compartment felt a bit cheap. At £20 I hoped for a better quality finish inside but I do like the way it looks like an airmail envelope when closed. The front of the purse says "Buy Buy Baby x" in embroidered stitch which is quite fun.
I would probably find myself buying again from this site in the future although some of the items are quite highly priced. The site is full of ideas and inspirations for products and could save a lot of time if you don't have chance to hunt in antique shops and salvage yards. I was really pleased with the speed and efficiency of the site and find there is a huge variety of unusual stock available to buy that is a mix between old and new items with a vintage look.
