For those who don't know, Very.co.uk is an online catalogue, who refer to themselves as an 'Online department store'. They sell clothes, homeware, electronics and gifts from several different brands and designers. Items can be bought and paid for there and then as usual, or you can set up a credit account with them whereby you pay items off on a monthly basis. I first opened an account with Very back when I was a student and wanted to buy a couple of things but was a bit skint (looking back this was probably a bad idea but soon after I got a part time job so it was fine). I still use it now every now and then when buying something expensive which I would rather split the cost for. Occasionally I see clothes on there which I genuinely want anyway - not just because I don't have to pay upfront - and I buy them and then just pay them off before the interest kicks in. Their items can often cost slightly more than they do elsewhere, of course this is because they know they can do this as some people would rather own the item straight away than save up and hunt for a bargain. They do also have some great sales at certain points in the year and I've picked up some real bargains on this site such as dresses for around £7 that were once much more expensive. The website is easy to use. It heavily features the hot pink colour on it which is also the colour of the company logo and the parcels you receive your goods in. The main categories are clearly listed across the top of the homepage so you can look at what you want and then use the filters to narrow down on things like brand, size and gender. 95% of the time, Very have an extremely quick and efficient delivery service. It is usually Yodel who deliver which I have had bad experiences with in the past, but normally with Very the item comes the next day as long as they have it in stock and you order before 9pm. Now for my negative opinions about this site. I have found them to be fairly unhelpful on a number of occasions. They are happy to take emails about most queries but as soon as you have a problem such as a faulty item which is their mistake, they make you ring the call centre, spend ages on hold and speak to an often rude customer advisor. Personally I really don't see why I should have to waste my time doing this when they're at fault. I've had issues before where they've sent me things like '10% off' codes and they don't work. When I've emailed them to tell them they've basically acted as though I made the code up and no wonder it doesn't work! Even when I've sent them their original email which had the code in it, they still don't help and I just have to leave it. The interest Very charge can be very high, but if you have a buy now pay later order (only available sometimes) it can be interest free for up to a year, or you can you their 'take 3' option where you pay your order off in three payments and avoid the interest. Otherwise it is around a whopping 37%. I've recently had to ask them to put my credit limit down as they will keep just automatically putting it up and it was getting to around £3000. I just don't want that available to me, I could go absolutely wild! The other main issue I have is that a lot of their brands can be quite poor quality. Obviously when ordering brands that are nothing to do with Very it's not their fault and you're just getting the same as you would if you ordered that brand from elsewhere. Very brands include things like the Ferns Cotton and Holly Willoughby ranges. Whenever I've ordered anything from these brands they never look anything like they do online and the quality is often terrible for the price. I don't bother with them anymore as I was always sending them back.
Ok so you may have seen my review on Littlewoods which own Very. Website: Ok so the website is obviously more colourful than Littlewoods but that's about it.. no different. Layout is exactly the same. All products are split into categories so they are easy to find and there are various products you can buy. You again will see a difference in the price from the normal direct website but the best thing about it is that you can split the payment. The goods: I've never been disappointed in the products from Very, good quality Returns: Returns once received back will be applied to your account to reduce your balance within a few days Payment & Statements: Again like Littlewoods please before you purchase anything understand your payments - these can get confusing and if you don't pay on time you instantly have a £12 fee to pay so always diary to pay on time! Delivery: delivery of the order is normally received within a few days - if the item is due for stock soon it will notify you so do take notice or you will be disappointed If your item doesn't come within a few days. I recently closed my account - I would prefer to buy things direct from the shop to pay less and not worry about missing a payment or not having to money to pay for it (not that I ever had) but you could get yourself in a little bit of a stress with a company like this. Like Littlewoods I have had problems with their customer services - if you have an issue they basically don't want to know and don't seem interested to help which results in a lengthy and costly telephone call!
I ordered a Swan Oil filled radiator on 19/01/14 this arrived 20/01/14 & on the 21/01/14 I tried to use the returns section on the Very website. This does not work as it does not allow me to click & select the check box next to the item thus not allowing me to progress to stage 2 of the process. I then used the email & received a confirmation email saying you would contact in 6 hours, you did not. In the mean time prior to any human contact by Very I received an automated phone call from Very requesting I press the number 1 and after press any key to continue which I did, however, this just did not work and went round in a loop. I tried further emails with just the confirmation email being returned. I did search the web & found many people complaining about the utter & complete non-existence of customer service via Very. During this I also found a message platform on the Very Facebook which gave a response from Andy F. I also finally got an email from Nicola at the Very help team who said she had arranged for collection on 24/01/14, this did not happen despite my staying off of work all day 7 am - 7 pm! So the returns section on the Very web site doesn't work. The automated phone call does not work. The email email@example.com does not work. The collection of goods does not work. Does anything at Very work? I have been keeping all my emails because according the Office of Fair trading emails do constitute a correct medium for cancelling an order and requesting a refund and anything else to do with communication via distance selling companies. It also goes into a lot of other things that Very are clearly flouting the law over regards distance selling but that will wait for later. Very really does need to gen up on this area of selling. I am looking to my day in court with Very, I have taken video of the product to ensure when this product does finally get to be returned Very cannot say it is damaged. yes video and not photo so Very can't say they have been Photoshoped, that's how much I distrust Very. I shall also be publishing on Facebook all these emails and on every other blog that has popped up, which are many along with all the other people complaining about the disgusting lack of customer service and the way we are treated. I want this item collected and my account showing a zero owed balance.
I've been a customer for about a year now and really don't see why they're getting bad reviews. Everything I've ordered has arrived when stated and all great quality. I've called their custmer services a couple of times, once to change an order which was done really quickly and once as I mixed my payment due date up and got a charge, they removed it as a gesture of goodwill which was good considering it was my error. The collect+ is great as well as I had to return a dress and it was easy enough to drop it at my local shop on my way to work. You have the option of splitting your purchase into 3 payments and avoiding interest as well as buy now pay later or making minimum payments which I find very useful and flexible. Will continue using them as I've had no problems. :)
= = = = = = = = = Very/The Website = = = = = = = = = I actually came across Very after deciding to look on their website for something that I saw advertise on the TV which I liked the look of. Some of you may be aware that Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby star in the adverts and also have their own clothing range on the Very website. I had seen their adverts before but never actually visited their website until 5-6 months ago. Very used to do a mail order catalogue, how-ever they have decided to stop this due to people not recycling them and to save paper, etc so now you can only purchase things online from their website. On the Very website they have a huge range of different items which includes clothing for men, woman, children and baby along with accessories footwear and sportswear. They also sell a range of gifts, beauty products and items and appliances for the home. You can probably find almost anything on the Very website including cooking pots/pans, a new washing machine, blenders, scarves, jewellery, exercise equipment and much more. Although very sell a lot of well known branded items they also sell cheaper items as well which is good quality but are much cheaper than some other well known brands which can be quite expensive. As soon as you go onto the Very website (www.very.co.uk), the main page will show you various offers and advertisements. For example they currently have 20% off all denim so this is currently advertised along with new trends for the home. Along the top of the page are different categories to enable you to shop easily and to find the product you are looking for. If you have an account with Very you can sign in/out at the top of the page or even create an account. There are various options at the top of the page that you can click to find out more information; some of this includes My Account, Privacy & Cookies, Help, and Contact Us. If you want to find out more information about anything else there are a number of other options at the bottom of the page which gives you information about deliveries & tracking, returns and account information and also FAQ's. = = = = = = = = = = = Setting up an Account = = = = = = = = = = = You can if you wish set up a credit account in which you will need to make monthly payments for. You may or may not get accepted for this depending on your credit history. I decided to do this as it's convenient for me and on most of the items I could spread the cost over 6 months if I needed to. Some of the items I could also choose not to pay for them for 6 months which is interest free because I was a new customer. Depending on your credit history, depends on how much they will allow you to have on credit. I was offered over £500 on credit, how-ever there was no-way I would be spending this amount. I preferred having a credit account as I know I will be able to make monthly payments and will also be able to stop myself from spending. This would also be handy to have in case I needed to purchase something in an emergency and I would also be able to use my credit to help with Christmas shopping. If you can keep up with payments and stop yourself from spending then I would suggest a credit account, how-ever if you are bad with spending and won't be able to keep up with payments then I suggest you purchase items straight away when you have the funds in your bank, rather than getting a credit account. They currently have 10% off your first credit order if you open an account with them. = = = = = = = = Range of Items = = = = = = = = I think they have a great range of items on here for every category and I am always browsing the ladies category once a month to see what they have added which is new. I have purchased many items from here including Diesel Jeans, Superdry clothing and even some of their cheaper clothing which is good value. I have to admit that I purchase a lot of my sports/gym wear from here such as vests and trainers as these can be quite pricey and I can spread the payment over three months. I have also purchased t-shirts off here for my boyfriend and some night wear/pyjamas for my nephews as well. I haven't yet purchased any home, electricals, toys or DVD's/gaming items, how-ever I would consider it in the future if I needed to buy something. As well as some cheaper ranges and the Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby range they also sell a range of well known branded items such as Diesel, Bench, Superdry, Lipsy, Lacoste, Adidas, Nike and more. If I am looking for something in particular I can always normally find something on here suitable. I have found some lovely items on here such as Nike trainers that I haven't been able to purchase elsewhere and also various other clothing which I wore for my holiday during the summer. I also occasionally order a few bits for my sister as well in which she gives me the money for. = = = = = Shopping = = = = = You can shop for products by category or by brand. For example if I know that I wanted a Superdry t-shirt I could search by brand. How-ever if I wanted to look for a dress but wasn't sure what I really wanted I could just search under the dress category. There are choices on the left hand side of the screen to narrow down your search for example, day, maxi, occasion, smart or going out dresses. You can also narrow down the search by choosing a specific colour or price range. If you click on the item you can view the item from different angles which includes the front, back and maybe the sides as well. With a lot of the clothing there is a short video clip of a model wearing the item of clothing and turning round in it so you can see what the item looks like on. Here you can also choose the size and colour you want to purchase. When you are happy with your selection click 'Add to Basket' and then you can choose whether to continue shopping or go to the checkout. If you want to remove any items that you add, they can be removed later by clicking on 'Your Basket' which is at the top right hand corner of the screen. You can also see the total price and the number of items in your basket as well. Some items may say that they are 'Out of Stock' or 'Low Stock'. If it says low stock then it's best to get the item when you see it otherwise you may not get chance to get it again. When you have finished shopping simply click on your basket to view the items that you have put in there. When going into your basket this will list the items that you have placed in there when shopping. This is shown by a picture, description and the item number and the size that you have chosen. It also states the quantity and price. The quantity can be changed by typing the number into the quantity box and items can be taken out of your basket by clicking 'remove'. Unfortunately there is no 'Save for Later' button/option which I find a little annoying sometimes. Once you are happy with the items and want to pay for them simply click on the Continue Securely button which will take you to the payment page. If you are paying using your credit account you may have different options on how you would like to pay for the items. You may want to pay the minimum amount spread over 3 months or you may want to pay nothing until a later date. Alternatively you can pay for items straight away using a credit or debit card. = = = = Delivery = = = = I love the fact that you can choose 1 of 2 delivery options. One of them is to have the item sent to your house or you can have it sent to a Collect+ store which is handy if you know no-one is going to be in to sign/take the parcel in. I have chosen the home delivery option a few times, how-ever after a bad experience I now decide to get the items sent to my local Collect+ store which is just down the road from my house. You can search for your nearest Collect+ store when choosing this option at the checkout. Most items are sent within 1-2 working days unless stated. After placing your order this creates a tracking number which can be found under your account. This tells you different stages of the delivery such as when it has been despatched & delivered, etc. If you choose to get the item sent to a Collect+ store you will receive an e-mail or text message with a collection number on which you need to take to the shop when collecting your parcel along with some photo ID. I have to admit that delivery has always been quite good with them; how-ever they do unfortunately use Yodel who happens to be one of the worse delivery companies that I know of. On one occasion a Yodel van came up my road and parked at the top of my drive in which the driver got out and got in the back of the van. I was expecting the delivery this day. After about 10mins the driver got back in the van and drove off and shortly after I received an e-mail to say that the item had been in a left in a safe place. I disputed this with Yodel who eventually investigated after me ringing them every-day over the course of a week. I also spoke to Very and they credited my account with the items that weren't actually delivered. I have no idea what happened to these items. Another occasion I yet again ordered something and it had been sent to yodel for delivery to me. I was supposed to receive the delivery on the thurs/fri at the latest and when looking at the tracking information it stated that the item was still at the yodel depot. It said this for 1 week so I contacted very whom contacted Yodel. Yodel told them they would try to locate the package and send it out to me for delivery ASAP. Eventually Very had to credit my account as the package never arrived, so I can only presume that Yodel misplaced or lost the package. Items should come packaged in their own plastic wrapping with a label on which has a code referring to that item. Shoes come in the correctly branded shoe box and it does tell you not to remove any tags from clothing/shoes until you are satisfied that you want to keep the item. I haven't had any issues with their items and they have never sent me a wrong item before which is good. I have to admit that some of the colours of their products do look slightly different than to what they do on the website which has caused me to send a few things back before such as Nike trainers and boots. = = = = Returns = = = = It's really easy to send items back, so long as you send them back within 28days for a credit onto your account or refund to your card that you paid with. With the items you should also receive an invoice and you simply need to tick the reason why you are sending the item back. There is a free returns postage label attached to the invoice so you can then drop the sealed package off at your post office obtaining a receipt or you can take it to your local Collect+ store where they will give you a tracking number for the parcel you are sending back. I have never had issues with sending items back and I find this service very realisable and trustworthy. = = = = = = = Your Account = = = = = = = When signing into your account on Very you can look at various information such as previous orders you have made, items you have returned and how much you need to pay on your account and by what date. You can make the payment directly on the very website and you can pay the amount they state or you can pay more if you wish. I haven't had any problems with payment as I always make a payment on time. You can also amend your personal details such as address and contact details and you can add other/different addresses to your account as well. I find this part of the website really helpful so I can keep a track on order that I have made and payment that I have made as well. I log on here 2-3 times a month so I know when the next payment is due and how much I need to pay. I believe they will charge you if you miss a payment or if it's delayed. I haven't done this and don't plan to so I can't comment on how much you get charged if you do miss a payment. = = = = = = = = = Customer Services = = = = = = = = = I have had to call customer services a number of times regarding delivery to items. I have to admit that they have always been very helpful and polite when dealing with my enquiries although I wouldn't say that are 100% reliable as many times I have been promised call backs and I have never received them. I have also contacted them via e-mail and they always reply within 24hrs and seem to be very helpful. If I have a problem with an order or query regarding delivery they do always help me out and I do get results eventually even if I do have to wait a few days. The thing I don't like about their customer service is that when I had an issue before about a package not being delivered I spoke to several different people so had to keep repeating myself to them which I found rather frustrating. = = = = = = = = Overall Opinion = = = = = = = = I think Very do have a great range of items available on their website and I think a lot of their items even the cheaper branded items are made well and are of good quality. Prices are reasonable and I often find items on here that I wouldn't otherwise find anywhere else online. I like the fact it tells you when an item is running low on stock so you know to purchase that item when you see it. Some items you may have to wait for delivery, for example I ordered some Nike Air Max about 3wks ago and they are not due to get delivered until the beginning of November due to them waiting for stock. I don't really mind this though as I really want the trainers anyway. I love that you can track your parcel and see whereabouts it is or what stage it's at. Returning items is really quick and simple and I have never had any issued when sending items back to them. I do think that a few things let Very down and that's the delivery company they use which is Yodel. I find tat they are the worst delivery company ever and are so unreliable. Due to this I think this really lets Very down as company which is a real shame. I also noticed that sometimes on the Very website items are out of stock, how-ever they still have them on the website which I think is pretty pointless. Overall Very is a great place to shop and I really enjoy shopping there for clothing, gifts and other goods. I would recommend them to others, whether you want to pay for items straight away or set up an account with them. I will continue to shop here, so long as I don't have any other delivery issues with Yodel. (review may also appear on ciao)
I have literally had an SVT attack from being so frustrated and angry at this company! I have tried endlessly after wasting money and time calling them to be told to email. I then get told i will receive a call back within 6 hours (which I don't) My issue was I ordered a pair of curtain tie backs for £12.00 (at a discounted rate fab!) I was informed when making the order it would be 3 - 4 working days. The confirmation gets emailed to me however then stating that the order will in fact be on 5th September. A little annoyed but I can bare this. 2 weeks wait?... Fine Any how after a week waiting, I go onto my account to find they have completely changed my order to an extendable curtain rail?!! And that I will receive this on November 15th?!! I had to manually check my account to find out this information as nobody informed me! So not only now is it another 2 months and 10 days wait but it is for a completely different item which I DID NOT ORDER! The company refused to admit there was a problem with their system even with a screen shot and email confirming the correct order and a screen shot of the 'supposed' order of an extendable curtain rail. After 4 days trying to contact I finally got through to the last and final person who said well if your that bothered cancel it?! Flipping cheek! Rude, bad english, Patronising, misleading, and incorrect information given! Not just that but I will be moving by the time the order gets to me in November!!!! This was an item for our new house! I cannot change delivery address as I chose this address for delivery.. yes when I thought it was going to be 3 - 4 days not 2 and a half months! Absolutely appalled, frustrated and left stressed out and I am 13 weeks pregnant so could really not do with this stress! Very Unhappy customer (Pardon the pun as they say!) VERY VERY VERY AWFUL SERVICE!!!
I only bought something from them once 4 years ago and had to sign up in order to be able to pay. Everything seemed fine (order arrived on time, was as described, etc.), but then I started receiving emails and texts every month about six months ago even though I'd ticked all the "do not ever contact me under any circumstances" boxes. These emails/texts were completely superfluous and VERY annoying, stating that they would not be sending me an overview of my account, since I had not made any purchases that month, of which I was obviously aware already. I then emailed them with a request to close my account and delete all the information, since there was no option of cancelling my account online. It took a ridiculous number of emails backwards and forwards and lots of fake promises of it actually having been sorted were made by them. Then a couple of weeks ago, it did indeed seem like I was unable to logon to the website, making me dare hope that they had finally complied, but this illusion was completely shattered when I just got another text! VERY annoying indeed...
Yes I was impressed with their website and seeing next day delivery plastered allover their website I was excited to place an order. The excitement soon turned to disappointment when my parcel never arrived as indicated and customer services couldn't say when it would come. Any correspondence with Very just refers to their conditions of delivery. I can't trust this company to deliver on time so therefore am reluctant to use them again. They are too cavalier in their attitude to deliveries and should rethink the way they do things. ~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~~ ***Thought I would try them again (many many months later) but oh no, next-day delivery mucked up again!!*** How difficult is it to meet their own deadlines? Customer Service (what customer service!!!) do nothing as I've heard nothing back 7 hours later. They obviously have no intention in making sure I am looked after and go the extra mile to retain me as a future customer!
Very is an on-line store that has a range of products from electrical's, furniture kids clothes and toys, a wide range of ladies and men's clothes and soooo much more! I have been using Very.co.uk for over a year now! I have bought a lot of products through them for the convenience! When we are low on money one month but need something for the kids, (new clothes, Christmas even when my daughter needed a new bed). It saves me driving to a shop, with both kids picking out clothes and trying them on, or getting toys and ending up buying more than you need! It charges P&P between £3.95 and £6.95 for the larger heavier items! But that's for the convenience of not going out! All the prices on products you will find on very are also higher than in stores. For instance You can pay £25 for a toy on Very that you could get in Tesco for £20. But it gives you the choice to pay monthly! You can spread the cost over 20 weeks or even Buy Now Pay Next Year! It has now become something I use frequently and I pay the extra cost of products to give me a more financial convenience. Spreading the cost and paying monthly opens up money in my account for the important things I need. I have once missed a payment due to changing banks and direct debits. This incurred fee's on my account of about £12 but with a quick phone call their friendly staff helped me out and removed the charges. I love using this site and would recommend to anyone that is looking to buy products and spread the cost. I would not recommend it for people who struggle to keep control of their finances. This is essential as the interest you can receive is extremely high! It is great for convenience but very easy to spend to much! They raise you credit limit a lot and also phone you a lot for the first few months (I receive one now maybe once every 3 months). This can be an annoyance but if you answer and simply say your not interested the staff are very friendly and will leave it at that! No pouncing on you trying to get you to spread the cost more or buy more products like some other companies. All in all 10/10 in my opinion! Just watch you money and make sure like with everything you can afford to pay the monthly bills before you purchase.
Very is an online and catalogue shop, very similar to Littlewoods and I believe also run by the same people, but it has not been around for as long. They do a lot of the same items and in my experience Very is always the cheaper of the two. Delivery is just under £4 and they also have a free collection service for items under a certain weight, whereby you collect items from a local shop. My nearest one is a Spar shop about 3 miles away, so not too far really. They also have an incentive called Very Treats. Very Treats are items that are given to you for free when you place an order. Each month there are 3 different items, and you can choose which you want (although some have a minimum order total). Very sells all the normal things you would expect of a catalogue such as electricals, furniture, clothing, toys. It also has lots of celebrity ranges, including clothing collections by Fearne Cotton, Diana Vickers and Holly Willoughby and interiors by Kirsty Allsopp. Items can be paid for immediately or within a certain time of invoicing with no charge, else they can be paid based on APR, so it's quite a flexible payment system. My personal experience of Very: I have only ordered once from Very but I will share my experience. Firstly I couldn't do it online as I was trying to use a promotional code I had from a magazine insert and the website would not accept it. I rang up and they apologised and did my order over the phone. The item I bought was an exercise bike, which was cheaper from Very than Littlewoods. I also bought a nail varnish (to bump me over the amount I needed for the code). The exercise bike was out of stock, which I knew as I'd read online, but they said they'd send it when it came in. The nail varnish arrived a few days later as did my Very Treat (a cup for the jubilee 'Keep Calm Ma'am'). A few weeks later the exercise bike arrived as expected, however one of the screws was wrong so I had to ring Very. They gave me the number of the producers and said to ring them (which I did and they sent a new screw). I told Very that it was unacceptable that I'd had to wait a long time, and then couldn't even use it when it came. They said that they would waive my delivery fee, which I thought was fair compensation. Overall I am happy with the service I received, people were polite on the phone and they dealt with my problem well. Since placing this order I have also been sent another offer for £10 off a £50 spend and I am often seeing incentives to buy from them. I would recommend them.
Last week I was browsing the Internet, looking for a dress for a special occasion and saw a beautiful dress at very.co.uk. I had never used the site and, as I shop online often, decided to give it a try. The normal price of the dress was 45 pounds and it was advertised for 36 pounds + the 10% discount they would give me on my first order. I opened the account, opting to pay the full amount on my credit card. The site confirmed the transaction, but the confirmation email didn't arrive. A few hours later I received an email asking me to call them, as there was an issue with my order. I called a 5p per minute number to be told that they had cancelled my order, as I had asked the item to be delivered to one of their Collect+ points near my work and not my home. The person was quite rude and said that I had to re-order on the site. I've tried to order again and the item was out of stock. I called them again and was told that I should wait a couple of weeks and try again (!). I decided to give another try immediately and was able to place the order (without the 10% discount!!!!). Received the confirmation email straight away. However, instead of the dress I had ordered previously I was sent a petite version of the dress (I am 5'8 and do not fit petite). I sent a message to very.co.uk right away and was told that there was nothing they could do, and that I should return the item (14 days to return my money to me). I was also told that they would give me the 10% discount on the 36 pounds I paid if I decided to stay with the dress. The petite version of the dress costs 22.50 and the normal version 36.00. I questioned the discrepancy and they said that I had ordered the item costing 36 pounds! Even though I had received the dress that costs 22.50!!! I will return the dress on Monday and close my account as soon as they pay me back! Very.co.uk NEVER again!!! Extremely stressful experience!
I had never ordered from Very before, and seeing a couple of tops I liked in a sale I decided to get them. I registered, not realising until the prompt at the end of registration explained, that it was a "credit agreement" rather than allowing me to simply pay for the items I would like. However, as I never buy anything without paying it off, I ordered the two tops and paid for next day delivery - paying the amount off straight away with my debit card. Early the next morning, I checked the tracking service and found my order was close. After lunch, with no arrival, I checked again only to find the details logged stated "Cannot delivery as cannot find address. Please contact to arrange delivery". I had no phone call from the delivery company Yoodle in order for them to locate my property. As instructed I contacted Very, only to be told I'd have to wait another (at least) four days for the next day delivery I'd paid for. I asked them to cancel the order and refund my money as two tops was not worth it. I was told the order had been cancelled and my money would be returned once they received the items back from the delivery company. I gently pointed out that they had taken the money from my bank account the same day I ordered, so they could refund it to my bank account the same day the order was cancelled. After much to-ing and fro-ing, and being passed through to a manager I eventually managed to get them to process my refund by continuously pointing out that any communication/contact between Very and Yoodle was not of my concern and should not be reflected upon my ability to receive the money that belongs to me. I tried to cancel the account but was told to wait until they received the parcel back - which is fair enough. I was assured the refund had been processed and the order cancelled, I hung up frustrated but satisfied I wouldn't have to deal with them again. The next day, the delivery man batters the door and hands the parcel over. I explain that the order was cancelled and should not have been delivered. He replied it was not his problem and walked away. I contacted Very again, was told I'd have to choose a day to sit in and wait on the collection of these cancelled items. I am not impressed! No-one communicates with each other nor was there any form of communication with me! I'm waiting on these items being uplifted then closing the account. What an absolute waste of time and energy!
The Hubby and I placed an order with very.co.uk last week for some bedroom furniture and kitchen blinds. The blinds were despatched 2 days later (not bad), yet despite instructions being given for them to be left in a safe location, they were left on the doorstep for all and sundry to see. The furniture was originally to be delivered this Friday. The biggest problem, however, is the customer services! After calling Very Customer Services yesterday to find out whether the furniture had been despatched we were told that one of the sets of furniture was out of stock (we had ordered 2 sets and only 1 was in stock). Why were we not told this? The best bit is that the furniture still shows on the website as in Stock! Considering that this is our first order with Very, it does not bode well for the future! This is a review of the online catalogue company 'Very'. I have thought long and hard about doing this review and held off for a while as I wanted to complete the order I made in December and do a balanced review of my experiences of the company. Bearing in mind it is now the middle of March, and we have received the final part of the order now I feel ready to share my views on Very. Who are they? Very mainly operate online as their wares cover almost every sector of the commercial purchasing sector. They do also supply a print catalogue for their clothing which I was not interested as I was buying furniture from them but I received the catalogue regardless, unrequested and it won't even be coming out of the shrink wrap so that was a waste of their time and money. The catalogue Very are part of a group so you can see the same items in other catalogue or as my mum calls them 'party' companies like Littlewoods. Why Very? I did my research online as I was wanting a specific type of bedroom furniture. Namely an over the bed unit. In October I asked a question about the dimensions of the over bed unit they sold in "Prague" style - I wanted to know if a king size bed fit in the gap as the ones that Argos sold did not fit around a king size. They were surprisingly hard to find if you were not getting one specially made by a joiner. It took them six weeks to find out the answer to my question but it was suitable and the feedback on the Very site was complimentary of this unit so we decided to go ahead. My purchases We originally wanted to get enough furniture to decorate two bedrooms, all from the same Prague range so that it would be flexible in the future if we ever move or do an extension on our house. I found the over bed unit was better value in a set that also came with a large three door wardrobe and a big set of drawers. We also wanted two smaller two door mirrored wardrobes (see review) and two sets of smaller 4+2 drawers (see other review). Finally, a bedside table for the spare room (not the room the over bed unit was going in) So all in all quite a large order. Price We were pleased that this lot came in at just under £1,000. We knew we could have spent a lot more furnishing two rooms with brand new furniture. In addition to this there was 6% cash back on the topcashback website and on the Very website you could get 10% off your order if you took their buy now pay later credit card called the Very account. Although we had the money to pay we decided 10% was a sum worth having for what we were spending so we also took this option, but please, please be warned if you do use this offer after reading this review, that the APR is 39.7% if you don't pay before the deadline and that is a really high price to pay so don't fall into that trap. In addition to this, as it was classed as a large item, £6.95 was charged for delivery. I didn't mind this the first time round but objected when they tried to charge me again later for delivery for what was effectively their fault. Delivery The first delivery arrived within a week and we were delighted to receive the items that were in stock which were two wardrobes and two sets of drawers. The overbed package, and bedside table would be with us in a couple of weeks we were promised. That seemed OK as hubby had plenty of flat pack assembly to be getting on with. I cannot fault the delivery people who are a separate company to Very. They rang to inform the date of delivery and also gave a time (morning or afternoon) to help with timings. On the day they rang when they were five minutes away so that we could get ready for them. Assembly The two wardrobes went up OK. You can see my separate review to see that I find them a bit wobbly and not very sturdy but once assembled, you can't return an item so you are stuck with it unless faulty. Speaking of faulty, one of the drawer sets had a faulty part in it which was marked with a big pencil cross so we had to arrange a return. Very offered us a small discount if we would keep it but I wanted a non-faulty set so it was returned and this was picked up from our house as it was a large item. Update At the end of January we were starting to wonder where the rest of the furniture we ordered was so I placed a phone call to Very, speaking to three individuals and waiting for more than 20 minutes. I also got cut off whilst on hold so had to phone back so was on the phone for more than 45 minutes at my time and expense before I got any answers. The final person I spoke to (repeating the story each time gets me so cross!) informed me that the over bed set had been damaged in transit and so had been returned to the warehouse. This item was now out of stock and I would have to keep checking the website until it was back in stock then I could call them to replace my order! Outrageous. I told them that would not be happening and that I was very disappointed with them. I didn't want the other furniture unless I could have the over bed unit and that's when they told me that they didn't accept assembled furniture. I was so cross I almost put the phone down but persevered and eventually the customer services rep checked the next season catalogue and found the over bed unit was still being sold so they would get some more in stock. February In February we received the bedside table. For the room that we had no other furniture for. By this point I was upset every time the name Very was mentioned and felt we were stuck in a no win situation, having furniture we didn't want and not getting the pieces I wanted. Friends and family were beginning to ask me how my new rooms were getting on, so I was retelling my Very story of Woe to date. I also had to ring to reorder the set of drawers that we returned due to the faulty part. I thought this would be automatically ordered but it wasn't. March I happened to be online when I noticed that ALL the elements of the three piece over bed unit, drawers and wardrobe were available and in stock and not available together for the lower priced deal. I decided to take action. I rang Very, told them we would change our order to just the overbed unit as I felt we had more chance of getting that right now and that was the piece I really needed. We would return the bedside table and leave bedroom two with mismatched furniture for now as I just didn't feel like Very deserved my business. The overbed unit arrived a week later following a chasing phone call as it didn't match the original promised date (only one item ever did) and I was told that I must ring back to amend the order once I had received the last piece as we had been charged a range of prices, including extra delivery and the prices were all more than we originally agreed to pay. Statements Once a month our statements have landed in the post with a minimum payment amount, which is fine, like a normal credit card. My main gripe is the complexity of the statements which never seem to reflect the amounts we have agreed to pay and have included extra delivery charges too which I did not agree to. We had to ring and challenge all aspects of the order and check that the returned items were credited to the account. I think this contradicts their policy of not accepting constructed flat pack goods as you can't argue with them once constructed but you have to construct to check all the parts are correct and working! Bad practice My original objective was to furnish two rooms. I have ended up with one room furnished so in my mind I have only achieved 50% of the original plan. I have also ended up paying more than I wanted to as I couldn't get the over bed in the set of three items which worked out cheaper but as that was the main item I wanted I had to pay over the odds. (the set of three was £539.10 less 15% discount the over bed on its own was £269.) The way the prices have been altered on our statement are disappointing, the drawers were £71 and we sent back the faulty set, the new set was charged to our account as £109 plus £7 postage - their fault the first set was faulty so why should they gain financially !! The APR at 39.7% really is a tax for poor people. No offence meant to people who do not have the money to buy things outright. It can be hard to work out how APR translates but for example if we did not pay £539 for the set of three items by June, we would incur £103 interest on just that item and would continue to be charged interest for as long as it was unpaid in full. I think this is obviously where the catalogue make most of their money but how fair is it? Final thoughts If you got to this section, well done. It has been a bit of a rant hasn't it! Out of the last ten reviews on Dooyoo, Very have received mainly one star ratings. I know that the psychology of these sites means people, particularly non-regular posters are more likely to review a bad experience but I do think that likewise, a good experience will usually get reported too. I can only add my one star to this sorry list of reviews and I would give them 0/5 if that were possible. Due to the way the order was dispatched, and returns of faulty or unwanted furniture I have waited in for five single days to receive the courier. I have spent many hours on the phone at my time and expense with Very and spoken to a range of staff, been cut off and been patronised. I really hope someone at Very reads these reviews as they need to really up their game in my opinion. I feel my first experience of buying from Very was terrible and has caused a lot of upset. As the account was in my name, they refused to speak to my husband when I reached the point that I couldn't bear to speak to them as I was going to shout at the staff on the phones and it's not their fault, I know but I had reached that point where I was not feeling very rational. I was also invited by Very to give feedback on my items and when I went to fill it in, the form wouldn't submit, no matter how many times I tried. I also had to laugh that they warned people not to air their customer service issues on the feedback form - surely this is all part of the experience and it certainly tells me that Very know they have issues regarding the way they treat their customers and that they just don't want to know. At least it isn't just me... It probably goes without saying, I will never use Very ever again. I will be paying the balance and closing the account at the soonest date possible. We are currently still in the middle of several attempts trying to get the original prices for some of the items as the prices have all gone up at the moment. I will try to end on a positive, saying quality wise, for what we paid, the furniture is actually OK for a veneer finish.
