A 'Very' good website indeed!
Member Name: lolly23
Advantages: Can find some great bargains, easy to shop with, and free returns if you're not happy.
Disadvantages: Don't describe items very well and lengthy (and costly) customer service calls.
Very is part of the Home Shopping Network, the company in charge of many catalogue websites such as: Littlewoods, Great Universal, and Kays. If you have ever visited these sites you will have noticed that they all look pretty much the same, work in the same way, and sell the same things.
Very is similar in this aspect, although I consider it to be better than others in the group due to the payment options, and prices, which are considerably lower than those on other sites.
I have been a customer of Littlewoods for around 18 months but tend to only order sale items as the prices are very high, sometimes even double the price you would pay on the high street. This is because they give you interest free credit for five months (20 weeks).
Very also gives interest free credit, although you 'TAKE 3', i.e. pay over 3 months; this seems less of a deal, although the price difference more than makes up for this (on larger items the difference can be over £100!).
I find that some Very items are more expensive than the high street, although not too much more, some items are also a lot cheaper, so it really is worth a look.
My last purchase, for example, was a corner chaise sofa (review to follow) that was reduced from £299 to £224; I bought this after a lot of searching (I love a bargain!) and found that even the full price of £299 was cheaper than what a lot of places were charging for an equivalent item.
Larger items, such as the sofa, cost £6.95 for delivery, but the standard price all other items (no matter how much you order) is £3.95 for next day delivery.
This is one gripe I have with Very; they boast next day delivery all over their website, yet it hardly ever is. I have placed around 15 orders and only 3 or 4 have been delivered the next day. To be fair, they do tell you the estimated delivery date when you are at checkout, but I don't feel that they should make claims that they can't deliver (mind the pun, lol!).
I find it easy to shop with Very, the website is clean, clearly laid out and well sectioned. They display decent sized pictures in the browse and search sections so you don't have to waste time clicking on items that aren't suitable, they also have a zoom feature when viewing an item so you can inspect things a little more closely and have a better idea of what you are buying.
The only other issue I have is that they don't tend to describe things well; you will only usually get a sentence or two on an item, which isn't really that helpful. Saying that, returns are free so if I'm not completely sure I tend to buy it anyway, as I know I can easily send it back if it's not right.
Returning items is really simple; Very posts items out in double fastening bags, meaning that the bags have two seal sections about an inch or two apart, Very uses the top one, then if you open the bag at the seal there is still another seal so you can cut the top section off and reuse the bag (that probably sounds more complicated than it is, it's just difficult to explain it!).
They also send you an order sheet with an returns address label so all you have to do is tick a box explaining why you are returning it (too big/small, not as expected, arrived too late, etc) seal the bag, and stick the address label on the front. You then just take it to a post office and post as you would any other item, although you are not paying you will still get confirmation of postage in case it gets lost.
I have returned quite a few items and there has never been any trouble with this system, you will just get a credit on your account within about a week for the price of the item.
I have only spoken to customer services twice so cannot fully comment on the service; in my experience they dealt with the issue well and in good time. The only problem I have with this service is the call length, The first time I rang, I waited 6 minutes to speak to someone. Another time I rang twice, both times deciding to call back as the wait was over 10 minutes - 4 hours later the wait was still 10 minutes, so I waited to speak to someone... the call took 14 minutes yet I only spoke for a minute and a half of that time - quite annoying, and costly!
Overall, I am happy with Very. I have now left Littlewoods in favour of Very and have recommended them to friends; I have a few little niggles with them, although no more than with other businesses and services, and the pros far outweigh the cons so Very gets 4 stars from me.
