Advantages: Ok selection of nice wine, various good value regular purchaser options
Disadvantages: Delivery process poor
I'm very surprised to see the plethora of negative reviews for this website! I have used them for just over a year and halve ordered from them three times, with minimal fuss.
I had opted for their 'Winebank' plan, whereby you 'save' £20 a month and they reward you with an additional £20 every three months. So, 3 months of wine 'savings' = £80 after they contribute.
This has allowed me to order three very nice crates of wine (personally selected) at what I consider to be a very reasonable price.
I have had one problem with them (my first crate of wine disappeared off the radar for about a week!) That said, it was an address that managed to cause problems for a lot of other courier companies, too.
Pros:
Reasonable selection (nothing too pricey!)
See reviews from other users/leave your own reviews
Prices not ridiculous
Some very nice boutique wines not seen elsewhere
Cons:
Is your address even vaguely hard to find? Then fuhgeddabout speedy delivery!
Their tracking system leaves a lot to be desired
I'll add an extra special Pro for their customer service tho, who I have always found to be exemplary. As an example - I ordered a crate of wine for Christmas and was very disappointed to received a corked bottle of St Emilion. I e-mailed on 31/12/2008 to request a refund onto my card (as opposed to an account credit, which is all they normally offer) and this was carried out quickly and without fuss, by a courteous member of staff. Pretty good over the festive period!
Summary: Generally pleased, although they need to work on their logistics a bit
