Advantages: none
Disadvantages: money taken from your bank without permission
It’s not often I get fuelled up about something, but I am so annoyed that I am writing this review to warn others that they might need to check their bank accounts for money going out from an online site where they have ordered business cards for free.
My daughter has just qualified as a nail technician and beauty therapist and wanted to get some business cards done to bring in extra work, so she visited www.vistaprint.co.uk and ordered about 200 for free. Or so she thought, the business cards came and she only had to pay for the posted and was billed for £3.49 which she paid with using her debit card.
Today she has just called me into her room and showed me her bank account online and there has been a payment of £9.95 been taken out of her account every month by vprewards.com.
Apparently when you order your free business cards you are agreeing to be signed up to vprewards which is free for the first 30 days then a monthly amount of £9.95 will be taken from your bank account.
I don’t know what you get for your £9.95 a month and I can probably say that most people don’t even realise that this is in the small print or terms and conditions as many people and teenagers don’t read the small print. Thinking that the business cards are free and don’t give it another thought.
My daughter tried to log onto the site to cancel the bank debits but didn’t have a password as she wasn’t sent a sign up email they just joined her and took the money out of her bank and she was wondering why she was getting into overdrawn and being charged bank charges as she thought she had enough money in her account.
Although this isn‘t illegal for the site to do this, as it is in the terms and conditions, she wasn’t sent any emails to let her know she had been signed up or that her 30 day trial was running out.
I think it should make anyone buying the business cards aware by email or letter that they have agreed to sign up to vprewards.com with a subscription of £9.95 per month after 30 days trial, and that you don‘t get anything for your £9.95.
If like my daughter you have ordered business cards from www.vistaprint.co.uk for just the price of the postage or so you think, then please check you account details and bank statements as you may be getting charged the £9.95 a month without realising.
I am disgusted with this site and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Summary: Be very wary

- 16/10/07 Hi, if your daughter had not sorted this out yet, may i suggest contacting them at www.vprewards.com or call 0845 026 1100 to cancel your membership and complain.
I just bopught business cards and it seemed i had ticked a box agreeing to sign up for a 30 day trail.. i was lucky to get an email which stated "VistaPrint Rewards will automatically charge a membership fee to your card at the end of your 30-day trial period and, unless you cancel. The fee will then be applied on a monthly basis at the then-current fee each new membership month". the email stated it ws from a 'Karen Heath' who is Membership Programme Director
I have been able to cancel my membership and ensure i dont get caught out.
I hope the info helps you and I hope it gets sorted and your duaghter gets everything she is owed back.
good luck :) |

- 01/08/07 Unfortunately, I did not read this prior to my vista purchases. I did not read any info about this 9.95 pound monthly debit payment and I was not aware that I have to tick a box for this membership. Yeah, better to check the credit card billing statement which I dont normally do and ironically, I already paid them 50 pounds for 5 months... since I discovered it two days ago. |
