As a new comer to the world of internet shopping my experience with WH Smith was high dissapointing. I am a university student and therefore rely on educational books to aid me in my persuit of an education. During one of my semesters I required a specific book that at that time was unavailable in my local book stores. Upon researching the internet I choose to order my book from WH Smith as they offered a 2 day delivery period compared to the 2 weeks I would of had to wait had I ordered the book from a local book store.

It is fair to say that WH Smith do offer competitive prices for their products and that was part of the reason as to why I placed my order with them. The main point that attracted me to placing an order was the delivery period advertised.

Once my order was placed I sat back and expected my book to arrive within a matter of days. Several days passed by yet there was no sign of my book. I regularly checked my order status via their website, but everything seemed to be in order.

When I querried the fact that my order had not arrived via an e-mail to them, I was informed that they were awaiting an order from their supplier and that when they recieved this they would dispatch my book to me asap. Obviously I was angered by the fact that I was not informed of this after I had placed my order and querried them accordingly. No answers were given to me. I only recieved short simple e-mails all stating basically the same thing, "we will dispatch your book as soon as we can".

Their customer service supplied to me was dissapointing as my questions were not answered and no form of compensation was ever offered considering the inconvience that they put me through...

If WH Smith want to provide a service that is second to none they are certainly going about it the wrong way in my opinion. It is suppliers like them that put people off shopping over the Internet. By personal experience I can say that usually '
shopping over the net' is a easy and hassle-free process but only if you stay clear of WH Smith!
