Yellow Moon was first brought to my attention when my children bought home a catalogue from school, it was full of arts and crafts as well as educational toys and games. The idea was that the school earned commission on every purchase this was between 5% and 25% depending on what you bought. I ordered some bits and pieces and was very impressed with the quality and service. Sadly Yellow moon decided to stop giving the schools any commission and support just one charity which is Childline, and so the school stopped distributing the catalogues. I searched the internet and found they had a website www.yellowmoon.org.uk . My review is based on my experiences with the website only.
The website - It is a bright and appealing website that is very easy to navigate. Along the side there are tabbed sections to help you find what you are looking for, there is also a search facility if you know exactly what you want.
The prices are all clearly visible and along with each item is a good sized picture with a clear description of what it is and how to use it. There is also honest customer reviews, which I find invaluable when deciding if I should buy a product or not.
What do they sell - Yellow Moon is always my first point of call when my craft cupboard needs restocking, they have stacks of fabulous stickers, gems, googly eyes, papers, paints and glitter. There is a huge selection of seasonal crafts, I always do a big shop in October and get lots of Christmas craft goodies, they do things like paint your own keyring, bookmarks, photo frames etc, these not only make fantastic presents for nannies and aunties but they also give the children something good to do when it is a wet or cold weekend.
It is all aimed at children so you won't find sophisticated embellishments for serious crafters.
They also have a huge range of educational games, puzzles, magnetic letters and words, globes and early years resources.
How much will it cost me ? Well I find the products very good value, think along the lines of ELC prices. I just bought a pack of 360 foam stickers for £3.99, 180 colourful gemstone flowers for £3.99 and a paint your own jewellery kit for £4.99. You can get packs of stickers for 99p, novelty party bag things from 50p and packs of card for about £3.00.
Delivery - Delivery costs £3.45 for UK addresses, if you spend over £50, which is very easy to do then delivery is free. If you want express two day delivery it will cost £6.25
Support Childline - On some of the items there is a blue symbol, if you buy an item with this logo then Yellow Moon will give 10% commission to childline. There are quite a few products with the logo so it is easy to help support a great charity.
Check out - This is so easy, you are shown all the items in your basket and given the option to change or delete any of them, if you are happy click through to the next screen where you will give all of your details, once you have shopped with them you will not have to put in your details every time you order.
Once you have done this press submit and that's it, sit back and wait for your goodies to arrive.
It usually takes between five and seven days for my items to arrive, they always come fabulously packaged in bubble wrap and in a sturdy box.
Returns and customer service - I have been happy with every item I have ever bought from Yellow Moon so have never had to return a product or contact their customer services. They do offer a 14 day returns service but unless the item is faulty you have to cover the cost of the return postage, so in most cases it would not be worth doing unless it was an expensive game or something.
I would recommend this website to parents, teachers and carers, it is a fantastic place to cover all your crafting needs for a reasonable price.
As a fundraiser Yellow Moon is one of the easiest options out there as it involves no outlay whatsoever. You simply complete an on-line form telling them how many copies of their free catalogue you would like and less than a fortnight later they arrive on your doorstep. Its as simple as that. You are given the option of collating a group order and then distributing it or alternatively allowing your purchasers to have the goods shipped direct to their individual home address for £3.95 each although this fee is waived for orders over £50. Your chosen charitable organisation, school or club then benefits with a cheque for up to 25% of the total order value.
As a recipient of the catalogue I find it quite expensive. It's a subsidiary of Baker Ross so I'm used to purchasing the items in bulk for a fraction of their individual costs but sometimes the option to buy a few hundred paper chains rather than a few thousand makes far more sense. The catalogue features an enormous array of tempting goodies from Christmas cards and crafts to calendars and games, some educational but mostly fun. Theres an enormous array of pocket money priced tat although the cost of shipping makes these items expensive if you only require a few small cheap items. Mostly you can find the goods cheaper elsewhere with minimal hassle. If on the other hand one of the organisations I support offers a free delivery option on a group order than I find this more tempting and usually end up with two or three stocking fillers.
My daughters love the catalogue, particularly the Busy Fingers range of craft essentials and they could happily spend several hundred pounds on Wriggle Eyed colour in Christmas tree decorations and an array of other oddities. Although variants of most of the items can be found in branches of Hobbycraft and once they've seen them in the flesh they are usually considerably less keen.
The Yellow Moon website contains a much wider range than the catalogue and by inputting your organisations code in the order from funds can be raised that way too.
I was first introduced to Yellow Moon nearly 5 years ago when my daughter was at pre-school, she was sent home one day with this colourful magazine.
The magazine is packed full of toys/ gifts, educational toy's games and learning materials, seasonal arts and crafts and party accessories, cards and wrapping paper and much more.
Most of the prices are very reasonable even with the credit crunch. They are a mail order company and you send payment with your order. Order can be sent via post, by phone, by fax or online. Post orders are free-post.
Postage and packaging is a standard £3.95 but if your order is over £50 you get free p&p.
What i love about this company is that you can register your school, group or charity, and with each order made up to 25% of your order earns your school, group or organisation cash back, you just simply quote your group code with your order. The magazine informs you what the cashback % is for each individual product.
Some of the items in there appear in every magazine issue but there are always plenty of new items added with each addition.
Once you have made a personal purchase from yellow moon they will send you regular magazines, roughly 5 a year! Once you have registered a school or group with them they will send you enough brochures for each child to take home, these brochures are pre-printed with the code for your organisation. Once you have supplied them with your email address they will send you notifications of any promotions they have going.
Delivery has always been quick and I have never had a problem with any of my orders, I have spent 100's of pounds with them over the years.
I am a huge fan of yellow moon and I know that my daughters After school and holiday club use the money back to buy arts and craft activities for the club and the kids really enjoy these activities.
It's highly likely that you have never heard of this, it's not very well promoted.
I have just found out that you can also earn 10% cash back on your yellow moon orders through topcashback and quidco.
I recommend checking out this site. :-)
Yellow Moon is a website selling craft materials for children. It is run by Baker Ross, and sells much the same range. They designed it as a fundraising site for schools. The schools distribute the Yellow Moon catalogue, with the school's unique code stamped on the front. When the parents place an order, they enter the school's code, and the school receives between 5% and 25% of the value of the order. It is a good idea - very simple for the school, and no extra cost to the parent. I checked the prices on both the Yellow Moon and the Baker Ross websites, and while they are different, they are not always more expensive on Yellow Moon.
The prices are really good for what is on offer. They also have a huge range of interesting stuff. I've just ordered some bags made of craft-foam, and a lot of foam stickers and little plastic "jewels" to decorate them with. My daughter and her friends are going to make their own party-bags at her 7th birthday-party - I think it should keep them happy for a while.
The site is a little chaotic - the same item is listed in several different ways, under Easter, Mother's Day etc, and will come in several different pack sizes and prices-per-item. So it is worth having a little time to hunt around.
It took about a week for the parcel to get to me. Everything was there, but two of the foam bags were rather grubby. I emailed Yellow Moon, who apologised and promptly sent another pack of 6 bags out to me.
The difficulty really, is in not spending too much!
I love the yellow moon catalogues that my daughters regularly bring home with them from school throughout the year.
The books and there web site is ram packed with fun and educational things for children to do.
There are loads of art and craft things in the book aswell as kits of things to make that range from very simple items you can make with a 4 year old child to more complicated items for older children, these are themed at the times of year too so at easter it is mainly easter items in the catalogue and the same for christmas.
There are lots of learning aids in there too that help with spelling, reading, counting etc and are aimed at children of infant and junior shool age and based around the curriculum they are being taught at school.
The pocket money toy section is my daughters favorites as there are prices ranging from a couple of pounds up to £15 in this section and i like these too as most are sets of more than 1 item so is great as stocking fillers for my daughters at christmas.
It is easy to order from them by either completing the order form in the booklet or on there web site online, you can pay by cheque or card and orders usually arrive within 15 days.
Although some of the items in this book are a little more expensive than if you shopped around for them a percentage of what you spend goes to your childrens school so i prefer to order from them knowing i am also helping out the school.
All of the items i have ordered from them have been fun and good quality, i would definately recoment them.
I love Yellow Moon! I love it for many reasons.
They have a wide masive range of products for kids on offer.
They have crafty bits and bobs ranging from making your own fridge magnets, xmas tree baubles to wiggly eyes and pipe cleaners.
They have a range of toys and games, stocking fillers GALORE! Not the usual pap you see in the shops, but somethings that are just a bit different and fun.
I like their educational range for helping with the national curriculum, like spelling, times tables etc.
It is especialy good for Xmas or for planning kids activities at any other time of the year. Birthday goody bag treats etc.
I spend most of my Christmas shopping budget with Yellow moon and 10% goes to the local school. You need a code for your school to get involved in that offer and if they aren't involved you can nominate a charity.
I have used the catalogue for to get ideas and then once online I find more bargains that were not in the book. They have a wider range again online. Sometimes things are cheaper online as well.
As for customer ease of use online its brilliant. You can take your time shopping and put things in your basket and leave them there til ready to order. You can put things in and out easy without having to look for them again.
Orders have always been complete and they are good at keeping stock up to date on line.
I love this site and as my kids have moved school I am going to recommend this to them.
Go and take a look now!
I had not heard of yellowmoon.org until a friend of mine showed me a small catalogue her daughter had brought home from school. I was immediately impressed by the huge range of arts and crafts and educational products that were on offer - and even more impressed by the very reasonable prices. It was also at the time when I was looking for inspiration for my daughter's fourth birthday party and I pretty much found everything I needed in that catalogue.
I didn't actually order from the catalogue preferring instead to use the website at
As soon as you arrive at the home page you can't help but notice how bright and colourful it is and how much there is on offer. It sets just the right tone for a company stocking exciting children's products.
The site is extremely well set out with lots of different areas to visit. I'm not going to list all of these but they include new products and special offers, busy fingers (crafts for all), funky favourites (pocket money fun), cheeky monkeys, cool girls and party time. There are also some more seasonal areas such as easter time and mother's day. Christmas is also there but at the moment is demoted to the bottom of the list!
I have to say that I loved the site so much that I spent a lot of time exploring virtually every area and I had to stop myself from buying absolutely everything because it all looked so good.
I did particularly linger in the busy fingers section especially as I wanted to have some craft activity at Natalie's party. There is so much to look at in this area and this is broken down into about 15 different sections with just about everything imagineable for every craft you could think of. Because most of the guests at our party were going to be about four years old the foam fun products wre particularly suitable. I bought some foam bags to decorate (£3.99 for a pack of six), a pack of crowns to decorate (£4.88 for 12), a Flower Garden Foam Stickers Value Pack with 200 pieces for £3.99 and a pack of 450 foam puzzle letter stickers for £3.99. This provided everything I needed for twelve children to be happily making at the party for only about £2 per head. Everything was such good value and very good quality as well.
There were so many other things I could have bought in this craft area - cards and models to make, beads, paints and accessories and so on. It really is like an Aladdin's Cave! And that's only one area of the site.
I also was interested to see what was on offer in the party area. They provide tons of different things that you can put in party bags from all the usual things to one or two very different ones. Because we were making things at the party I was not buying much for our foam party bags but I did buy two Fairy Princess Party Packs which provided all the paper pates, napkins, hats, invitations and so on that I would need. Each box contained enough for six children and cost £5,95. (I have written a separate review on this if you are interested).
My shopping spree also took me into the Weekenders section which has a lot of games and toys. I fell in love with a lovely magnetic calendar chart which my daughter can use every day to chart the day, month, weather, season and so on. This cost £14.99. I also picked up a Magnetic Dress-Up Fashion Angels which provides a tin and four dolls which you can dress in different clothes. These are all magnetic and because the dolls are in the metal tin they don't fall off. This cost me £9.99. The toys in this area did seem a bit more expenseive but they do all seem to be very good quality.
Ordering was very easy and it's possible to pay by all the usual methods. Normally you would pay £3,95 P and P, but if, like me, you spend over £50 it is free and you also qualify for a small gift. For us this was a small cuddly toy which I used as the present inside the Pass the Parcel. There were also no problem with the delivery with everything arriving in a big exciting box within five days.
The other thing I liked very much about using yellowmoon is that your child's school can benefit. Every product has a percentage cashback that can be passed on to a school ranging from 5% to 25%. This is shown next to each product so you know exactly how much it is worth for your child's school. If the school is registered you can nominate where you want the money to go by searching for the name of your school. When I did this both my daughter's school and her after school club were there so I will probably alternate between the two whenever I shop there. If a school is not there you can tell them about it and they can register on the site. I think this is an excellent idea and it's always good to be able to give something back.
Having registered on the site I do receive fairly regular emails which is fine as they are pointing to all the latest offers on the site. I really think this is a great site and I shall definitely be bearing it in mind for birthdays and christmas. I definitely recommend it.
Well following my suggestion, Doo yoo has added Yellow Moon website so I had better write a review on it now before I forget.
Yellow moon is a website, which offers items for sale. There are some fantastic items for young and school aged children at reasonable prices. The best things about Yellow Moon are that Schools, nursery's, playschools etc can get commission if parents (of anyone) buy through Yellow Moon once the setting is registered. The amount of commission depends on the item you are buying.
I love this site for Christmas stuff and tend to buy off it in November every year. This year I bought a couple of stocking fillers for my daughter and so make and do Christmas thing like cards. The threading cards are also very easy to do and make great gifts/ cards for close family.
The website is broken down into sections and is very easy to use. You can also search items in the search boxes. I find the website fast easy to navigate and there is lots of product information and pictures to help you choose items to buy.
Yellow Moon also does a catalogue, which can be requested by setting to give to parents etc. Yellow moon is a great way to make for setting to make some easy cash. The catalogues are quite small (A5 size I think) and have about 30 pages. There are more items available on the website but the catalogue does show a good range along with details on how to order.
Finding the website is very easy you can either Google Yellow Moon and it will come up with the website or go direct to www.yellowmoon.org.uk there are often promotional codes, free delivery and offers where you get free gifts but these tend to be on items over £50.
I have ordered from Yellow Moon every year for the last 3 years and I have never had any problems. The items have always been in stock. I have always received what I order never any mix-ups or substitute items. The items are well packaged and boxed with shrink-wrap to keep everything dry. I have always been charged the right price and everything has been accurate. The items are always to a high standard as described on the website.
The website gives a lot of additional information likes frequently answered questions, contact numbers for customer service, guarantees, delivery, and information on how to shop.
Delivery is reasonable priced at £3.95 for standard delivery, which takes up to 6 days, but I have used this option and found it quicker than 4 days at times.
When you have chosen items to buy and put them in your virtual basket you can go to the checkout, which is secure (showing the padlock in the bottom right hand corner) at the checkout you can add and remove items then pay this, is also where you can select a school or organisation to receive the commission. You may as well select a school or organisation to benefit as it will not cost you anything and it would really help a setting. (If you don't have an organisation you could add code SST5483 which would give the commission to a school local to me)
Once you have paid you will need to add your address and a delivery address then you are done. Just wait patiently for a few days.
The site also has loads of ideas and items for Easter, halloween, Mother's day and Father's day.
A unique shopping experience that offers great value products and raises vital funds for schools, groups and charities.
