Advantages: great site, tons of products, great prices
Disadvantages: none
I had not heard of yellowmoon.org until a friend of mine showed me a small catalogue her daughter had brought home from school. I was immediately impressed by the huge range of arts and crafts and educational products that were on offer - and even more impressed by the very reasonable prices. It was also at the time when I was looking for inspiration for my daughter's fourth birthday party and I pretty much found everything I needed in that catalogue.
I didn't actually order from the catalogue preferring instead to use the website at
www.yellowmoon.org
As soon as you arrive at the home page you can't help but notice how bright and colourful it is and how much there is on offer. It sets just the right tone for a company stocking exciting children's products.
The site is extremely well set out with lots of different areas to visit. I'm not going to list all of these but they include new products and special offers, busy fingers (crafts for all), funky favourites (pocket money fun), cheeky monkeys, cool girls and party time. There are also some more seasonal areas such as easter time and mother's day. Christmas is also there but at the moment is demoted to the bottom of the list!
I have to say that I loved the site so much that I spent a lot of time exploring virtually every area and I had to stop myself from buying absolutely everything because it all looked so good.
I did particularly linger in the busy fingers section especially as I wanted to have some craft activity at Natalie's party. There is so much to look at in this area and this is broken down into about 15 different sections with just about everything imagineable for every craft you could think of. Because most of the guests at our party were going to be about four years old the foam fun products wre particularly suitable. I bought some foam bags to decorate (£3.99 for a pack of six), a pack of crowns to decorate (£4.88 for 12), a Flower Garden Foam Stickers Value Pack with 200 pieces for £3.99 and a pack of 450 foam puzzle letter stickers for £3.99. This provided everything I needed for twelve children to be happily making at the party for only about £2 per head. Everything was such good value and very good quality as well.
There were so many other things I could have bought in this craft area - cards and models to make, beads, paints and accessories and so on. It really is like an Aladdin's Cave! And that's only one area of the site.
I also was interested to see what was on offer in the party area. They provide tons of different things that you can put in party bags from all the usual things to one or two very different ones. Because we were making things at the party I was not buying much for our foam party bags but I did buy two Fairy Princess Party Packs which provided all the paper pates, napkins, hats, invitations and so on that I would need. Each box contained enough for six children and cost £5,95. (I have written a separate review on this if you are interested).
My shopping spree also took me into the Weekenders section which has a lot of games and toys. I fell in love with a lovely magnetic calendar chart which my daughter can use every day to chart the day, month, weather, season and so on. This cost £14.99. I also picked up a Magnetic Dress-Up Fashion Angels which provides a tin and four dolls which you can dress in different clothes. These are all magnetic and because the dolls are in the metal tin they don't fall off. This cost me £9.99. The toys in this area did seem a bit more expenseive but they do all seem to be very good quality.
Ordering was very easy and it's possible to pay by all the usual methods. Normally you would pay £3,95 P and P, but if, like me, you spend over £50 it is free and you also qualify for a small gift. For us this was a small cuddly toy which I used as the present inside the Pass the Parcel. There were also no problem with the delivery with everything arriving in a big exciting box within five days.
The other thing I liked very much about using yellowmoon is that your child's school can benefit. Every product has a percentage cashback that can be passed on to a school ranging from 5% to 25%. This is shown next to each product so you know exactly how much it is worth for your child's school. If the school is registered you can nominate where you want the money to go by searching for the name of your school. When I did this both my daughter's school and her after school club were there so I will probably alternate between the two whenever I shop there. If a school is not there you can tell them about it and they can register on the site. I think this is an excellent idea and it's always good to be able to give something back.
Having registered on the site I do receive fairly regular emails which is fine as they are pointing to all the latest offers on the site. I really think this is a great site and I shall definitely be bearing it in mind for birthdays and christmas. I definitely recommend it.
Summary: A great site to shop for children

- 16/03/09 Fantastic review. I'm not quite at the stage where kids are in the plans yet, but my girlfriend is a teacher, so this is still very much worthy of note. |

- 16/03/09 Great review! My girls have bought this home for a few years now. They do some great stuff although I do think a lot of the toys and games are a bit expensive. If you like this site and not tried it then Hawkins Bazaar is probably a little cheaper. BUT as you say some of the money goes to the school so it is worth shopping if only for that. |
