Disadvantages: returns policy
Yellow Moon was first brought to my attention when my children bought home a catalogue from school, it was full of arts and crafts as well as educational toys and games. The idea was that the school earned commission on every purchase this was between 5% and 25% depending on what you bought. I ordered some bits and pieces and was very impressed with the quality and service. Sadly Yellow moon decided to stop giving the schools any commission and support just one charity which is Childline, and so the school stopped distributing the catalogues. I searched the internet and found they had a website www.yellowmoon.org.uk . My review is based on my experiences with the website only.
The website - It is a bright and appealing website that is very easy to navigate. Along the side there are tabbed sections to help you find what you are looking for, there is also a search facility if you know exactly what you want.
The prices are all clearly visible and along with each item is a good sized picture with a clear description of what it is and how to use it. There is also honest customer reviews, which I find invaluable when deciding if I should buy a product or not.
What do they sell - Yellow Moon is always my first point of call when my craft cupboard needs restocking, they have stacks of fabulous stickers, gems, googly eyes, papers, paints and glitter. There is a huge selection of seasonal crafts, I always do a big shop in October and get lots of Christmas craft goodies, they do things like paint your own keyring, bookmarks, photo frames etc, these not only make fantastic presents for nannies and aunties but they also give the children something good to do when it is a wet or cold weekend.
It is all aimed at children so you won't find sophisticated embellishments for serious crafters.
They also have a huge range of educational games, puzzles, magnetic letters and words, globes and early years resources.
How much will it cost me ? Well I find the products very good value, think along the lines of ELC prices. I just bought a pack of 360 foam stickers for £3.99, 180 colourful gemstone flowers for £3.99 and a paint your own jewellery kit for £4.99. You can get packs of stickers for 99p, novelty party bag things from 50p and packs of card for about £3.00.
Delivery - Delivery costs £3.45 for UK addresses, if you spend over £50, which is very easy to do then delivery is free. If you want express two day delivery it will cost £6.25
Support Childline - On some of the items there is a blue symbol, if you buy an item with this logo then Yellow Moon will give 10% commission to childline. There are quite a few products with the logo so it is easy to help support a great charity.
Check out - This is so easy, you are shown all the items in your basket and given the option to change or delete any of them, if you are happy click through to the next screen where you will give all of your details, once you have shopped with them you will not have to put in your details every time you order.
Once you have done this press submit and that's it, sit back and wait for your goodies to arrive.
It usually takes between five and seven days for my items to arrive, they always come fabulously packaged in bubble wrap and in a sturdy box.
Returns and customer service - I have been happy with every item I have ever bought from Yellow Moon so have never had to return a product or contact their customer services. They do offer a 14 day returns service but unless the item is faulty you have to cover the cost of the return postage, so in most cases it would not be worth doing unless it was an expensive game or something.
I would recommend this website to parents, teachers and carers, it is a fantastic place to cover all your crafting needs for a reasonable price.
Summary: a fabulous website, worth a look.
