I'm new to the world of Apple Mac, well sort of. I did use an Apple II when I was at primary school! Since those days I've been aware of Mac OS and the loyal fanbase it has based over the years on its stunning graphics. Fed up with Windows lack of speed, and weaknesses where viruses are concerned I decided it was time to stop buying Microsoft products. I am from a UNIX background, but the wife and kids only knew Windows. I couldn't see Linux as the way to go with too many varieties and complicated setups. Then I read that Mac OS X is now fully UNIX certified, which came as a bit of a surprise. My wife needed a new laptop, so we chose a MacBook, which was ... Read the complete review

Just get this now and put it on your Mac! You'll think you have a new machine. No, it doesn't actually revolutionise the way you use your Mac but it makes it a hell of a lot more beautiful to look at as well as giving you a lot more functionality compared to previous Mac OS's. Everything is simple and intuitive to use. The addtition of back buttons on menus means that you don't end up with piles of windows strewn across your screen. They also slide and float on your screen as you work with them. Fonts are shadowed and raised, your backgrounds look like superb and your screensavers are displayed like dreams. All these things add up to ... Read the complete review

I'm a Unix sysadmin, so when the Powers That Be told me that two G4s were turning up and I have to support them, I turned a whiter shade of pale. When they did arrive, however, installing them was an absolute breeze and after playing with the almost infeasibly pretty GUI, to my initial delight I found a small icon marked "Terminal". Could it be? Could Apple have finally provided a command-line interface? The answer, like so many things to do with Macs, is "well, sort of". It seems that this OS is built on top of an implementation of BSD Unix that Apple have called "Darwin". When I found this and started to poke around a ... Read the complete review

This is the latest operating system for the apple macintosh format. It is a brave new atempt by apple to make an operating system friendly to the newbie. However from this respective it fails quite misserably. The menues are hard to navigate and it is hard to find programs with the lack of a proper start menu equivelent and it does not do anything the Windows XP can not do and better. It also fails to be useful to long time users as it complacates many things and yet does not offer many advances features and offers a very low ability to tweak the os. This opperating systems is hard to use and very buggy but is biggest weakness is that the whole make platform is ... Read the complete review
