Finally! I have tried RedHat on several occasions - Redhat 6.1 most recently, I have tried SUSE, and Mandrake 7.0 I have always had problems with LILO, or problems with my hard drives, or with my Zip drive, or with my CD writer, or with my soundcard. Mandrake 7.1 handles the lot. Admittedly, it still has a few minor problems with some of my hardware, but Mandrake 7.1 is easy to install, well supported, and , in short, is ideal for anyone looking to dabble with Linux without having to go through hell getting it up and running.
I wrote an opinion about mandrake linux 7.0 and well when i heard about 7.1 being released i thought how could they improve this operating system. Well They have done it again. I installed it this morning with no fuss, no hassles what so ever. It picked up my graphics card, my zip drive (USB), my cd-writer, my sound card basically everything. I paid under £30 for the operating system from a well known internet site and i have to admit that it was worth every penny. You get three cds on installion, one extra applications and the source code. You also get partition magic, three reference books, and many more books on the cds. This version has excellent features, and can be used by beginners to developers. The range of applications and desktops is excellent. They have also made it compatiable with redhat RPM packages making it easy to upgrade. I know you can get other versions of linux for less than £5 but you don't get books with it (paper format), which is written specially for this blend in plain easy to understand english, nor do you get partition magic etc. If you can afford it and want to learn to use linux i would recommend you buy this. Everything you need is in the pack. But if you don't want to cough up then go for the previous version 7.0 well see ya best regards
