I bought my laptop from Tesco, it was an Acer 2GB RAM, dual core processor, blar, blar, blar, so it is pretty good. Well it had Vista pre-loaded, so I got it home and switched it on and away it went, it had some crap already on it. So I popped the disc back in and did it from scratch.

Its brand new start up asks the same things as XP really. Then it logs you in. The look is different; one the main things being the start button being just a circular windows symbol, also the desktop have a more modern look.

Vista has some extra features to it, such as: windows switcher, rather than Alt+Tab pressing Windows+Tab flicks through them in a more modern and stylish way. The start menu, rather than going through to find what your looking for you can just 'Start search it' and it will look for it and display it for you, also it is more compact, as XP would shoot out the folder in the menu to the right, then when it runs out of space, to the left. Vista just drops it open underneath it so it doesn't take up any more desktop space. There are great parental controls aswel, where no-matter what browser you use you can create block and/or allow list, or let Vista choose whats good and bad, or combine the two, also you can track what people do on the PC.

The bad: some hardware will not work, and some software will not work, to guarantee it working in vista, look for the Vista logo.
