Windows 7 -Build 7100 -32 bit version - Release Candidate

Having tried the Beta versions of windows 7 in both 32 and 64 bit modes, it was nice to be able to download something that has had some bugs fixed and has continued to work for me without any major problems.

Microsoft have realised that it's the middle of a 'Credit Crunch' or depression, so they have come up with a cunning plan. You can have Windows 7 for FREE! There is a catch, of course, it will only be for a year, and after next 1st March 2010, it will start closing down every two hours, before it closes down for good on 1st June 2010. The idea is that you will realise how good Windows 7 is and rush out to buy a copy. Some customers of Vista Ultimate think it should be a free upgrade, since they didn't get all the promised goodies from Microsoft.
Is it that good? Well it has a lot of advantages over Vista, and quite a few things have been tidied up. I have found it faster to boot up/down and easier to use. (But not as fast as the latest Ubuntu) The tasklbar and menu selection are different to use, and you cannot go back to the good ole classic Windows style.

Installation went well, and I didn't have any problems with drivers. The desktop screens are a great set of photos to see, especially Tower Bridge. It all seem less cluttered and faster than Vista.

One item missing, that I found was most useful on Vista was the Microsoft Movies Editor. That's a pity.

There is supposed to be an XP emulator, so that you can run your old XP programs in Windows 7, but I haven't come across it yet.

To sum up - it's still a Beta version, but it is good, and they are getting your feedback about it - would be nice if they offered a discount or a free copy at the finish. If you do decide to install it, keep all your data and Docs on a second hard drive - just in case.

Summary: Try it for free and see. You can also get Ubuntu for free
