BeOS is a legacy free operating system designed by Be Inc. Unlike the many versions of Windows which have developed from Dos, and to a certain extent still sit on top of it, BeOS was designed from the ground up. Focussing mainly on the video and multimedia markets Be have created an operating system that is very stable while still being very fast. ... Read the complete review

I downloaded the free edition of BeOS 5, and was mad for several reasons. I hated the huge download, and was really looking forward to something useful that would give me inspiration to buy the pro edition. No such luck. I set it all up, and then tried to create a boot floppy, just in case. Then I tried to access it, but with no luck. I ... Read the complete review

If you are looking for an alternative OS to Windows to slap on your X86 PC then why not give this one a try. As with everything today, installation is easy. You simply put the disk into the machine, and it auto starts. If you already have Windows on the system, you are given the option to partition the drive. If you do so the PC will ... The BeOS 5.0 Personal Edition is just so good, you can't help yourself. The very best thing about it is that it's free to download, free to use and just so perfectly formed. If you want the Professional Edition it's going to cost real money, so my advice is to stick with the Personal Edition at least until you have worked with it for a ... Read the complete review

I was interested to see what BEOS was like . For a company to try and push a new operating system today seems like a bit of a suicide mission with the Linux vs Windows people each sticking to their bunker in the middle of no-mans land. I've only used the evaluation edition of BeOS which uses the same core as the final professional ... Read the complete review

I have just been looking at some preview versions of this OS and i am now going to go out and buy it to run alongside windows 2000! This is quite smply a great OS. It supports just about every piece of hardware! Is very fast and is everything that you could really need for an OS! Of course not quite good enough to totally ... Read the complete review

Free, free, free. Linux and FreeBSD started the trend, then Sun's Solaris joined in. Now Be Incorporated offers its BeOS 5 Personal Edition--at no charge--to anyone with the time and bandwidth to download a 42MB file. Unfortunately, this version takes up a whopping 512MB of disk space and doesn't install on non-Windows ... Read the complete review
