Advantages: Stable, Good for networking
Disadvantages: Little hard to use in places, Expensive
Where to start eh? I have to admit I've been a sheep that's followed Microsoft's every move for years now. As well as having Windows 2000 now I've also fiddled with DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 and 98SE, Windows ME and Windows NT 4.0 a little. And as far as I'm concerned my favourite has got to be Windows 2000. You see for me Windows has always crashed. It's always been a matter of switching the computer on and then waiting to see what would go wrong next but for the first time I don't have to worry about this any more because Windows 2000 appears to be a very stable operating system. Windows 2000 is one of Microsoft's latest operating systems. It is based on the NT operating system but has been given a new lick of paint and thrown into the year 2000 arena to do battle. It balances the needs of a good operating system with the need for safety. It is a good operating system if you just want to mess about with things due to it's stability and often it can detect programs that aren't working and close them before the whole of Windows is compromised. Windows 2000 also performs well if you want for example to run a home network. Due to it being an extension of a Windows NT operating system it performs the task of networking systems beautifully as it offers stability and security across the board. It has many features which help in setting up networks, tutorials and help files and software which helps give different users access right and privilege levels on one or more computers. I myself have taken advantage of this. I have an Administrator area giving me overall access to everything whereas my little sister has a little normal user type area which she can use for day to day things such as Office and the Internet but she's restricted in the sense that she cannot delete important files and cannot install anything. It's downside however is that if you want t
o play games then you might have a few problems. I found that when using windows 2000 the performance of my games was a little sluggish compared to what my expectations were when using operating systems like Windows 98. Also using Windows 2000 means that in most cases you have to go and download new drivers for your hardware as most existing drivers aren't compatible with the Windows 2000 OS. There are a few versions of this product out and it can be quite costly, but if you can afford it then I highly recommend this product.
