Advantages: Good features, industry standard

Disadvantages: unstable causing crashes in your applications, cant run for a decent time without a critical file like Explorer crashing,

The title of this article are normally the words leaving my mouth (expletives edited out) at least 5 times a night whilst using my computer with Windows 98. It is rubbish. In terms of features yes it is a pretty good operating system, but in terms of its stability, it is disgraceful that a company can get away with releasing such an unstable product. If a small company had released such an unstable piece of software, they would have been hounded by all until put out of business, but not with Microsoft. Its as if since we used our first PC using Windows 3.0 or 3.1 or even earlier, Microsoft has been slowly using the radiation from our monitors to warp our minds, and every couple of years go into town, part with 80 quid and ask for another new copy of a Microsoft operating system. The problem is in the OS market is that there is no competition for Microsoft. We have Unix and Linux. Linux is gaining more and more credibility particularly with servers, but driver support is the problem. Overall due to its pitiful stability
I really cant reccommend this OS. The other possibilities are Linux but this has bad driver support although is very stable. Windows 2000 is a lot more stable because its built on NT but again although drivers are pretty good now, it si not a home operating system so dont expect to play any games particularly quickly in this. Then theres Windows Millenium (ME), the jury is still out on this as it hasnt officially been released yet, although it is Win 98 at heart so be careful. If your looking for an operating system to go up to from Win 3.1/95 then wait and see how ME does because you will regret spending your 70 quid on Win 98

you can patch things up a bit if you download all the updates from the microsoft update site. I think I'll just stick with it,and find someone who has the ME version and get feed back before changing.
