Advantages: more stable than other versions
Disadvantages: Unstable, Expensive, Media player 7 is rubbish, Bloatware, I could go on and on
I hate Microsoft. Ok, on with the review, Windows Millennium Edition, or WinME , is the latest in Microsofts buggy, bloatware 9x range (win 95, win98, win98se). Of the four of them I'd have to say that WinME is probably the best, mainly because its the most stable. Thats not to say that it is stable, It will crash at least every two days, but that is an improvment of win95 and and win98 that crashed every day and win98se that crashed every hour. If you want stability in your OS, use an Win NT 4, Win2K or ideally, Linux (READ MY REVIEW OF REDHAT 6.2) Whats new in WinME? practically nothing. It has those nice icons from Win2k, It has the new media player which takes up half your screen and 75% of your system resources. It hs Internet Explorer 5.5 which, as far as I could tell, was exactly the same as IE 5 with some weird internet printing thingy. DirectX 8 - Cant really comment on this as I dont really play that many games. And thats about it. Because it is basically the same as Win98, you should have no troubles with your old drivers, although there have been some reports that certain drivers do not work. Also it has been reported that certain games dont like WinME too much (dont blame them) MDK 2 being one of them (I believe thier is a patch. WinME should be offered as a free upgrade to all the mugs that use Win98se , but this being Microsoft you have to pay through the nose for this piece of trash. All hail the almighty $. If you are a person who doesn't play many games, I urge you to use Linux ( and remember games players; the more people use linux, the greater the games support will be, and games that properly support it perform better in linux than windows.) If you dont already have an operating system, and feel you must go the Microsft way, I suppose this is alright, but I would urge against it. The price is a guess, sorry. All proper tea is theft.
