Advantages: actually looks after your computer pretty well, Easy to use

Disadvantages: real memory waster , doesn't upgrade very easily if at all, for what you pay for it you don't actually get much for your money

When Windows ME came out there was so much hype about it being able to update itself and that it was practically full proof!!!! do the words heard it all before mean anything to Microsoft?????? Obviously not or they wouldn't have bothered advertising Windows ME.

I had windows 98 running my computer for a long while and had no major problems with it other than when i upgraded it!!!! and that was mainly driver problems. Well when Windows ME came out boasting that it would be able to sort these problems out for me, i thought hey i'll give it a go!!!!

Anyway i got it and installed it and everything was fine for about 4 months. I'd just bought a very memory intensive program and installed it on Windows ME, Just for information my computer has 128MB of memory which was way over the memory requirements of this program!!!! I installed it and tried to run it and i got a not enough memory warning, i couldn't understand this since the program only needed 64MB of memory to run. Well anyway i did some investigating and found that windows ME used almost 110MB of memory just to boot up!!! meaning i could use the program with out a memory upgrade.

The next problem i had with windows ME was when i upgraded my motherboard, when i tried to reboot the system i had errors appearing in all directions from memory problems to pieces of hardware missing or random crashes, everything i tried to do made itr worse i would sort one problem and another one popped up it was driving me up the wall, until i'd had enough and tried to downgrade my computer back to Windows 98.

Well Windows ME wasn't having any of that when i tried to bootup after reinstalling windows 98 there were still about 10 programs that were related to windows ME that didn't go when i replaced the operating system and they were stopping WIndows 98 froom working properly, in the end i got so fed up i formated my whole hard drive and started from scratch with windows
98 and now my system works fine, i haven't changed anything hardware wise at all. Not quite what i would call a great help to say Windows ME is meant to look after your computer automatically is it????

The only conclusion i came to is that Windows ME is a complete waste of money, they designed it so complicated that if you even changed anything without it's knowledge it screwed the whole system up making it almost impossible to upgrade using Windows ME at all. If you have Windows 98 and are thinking of upgrading to Windows ME, take my Advice DON'T you will thank me for it believe me!!!!

Upgrading from 98 to Me is a waste of time & money, but 128MB is no longer a lot of memory and Microsoft are well known for quoting stupid requirements, the orignal Windows 95, according to Microsoft, could run with 4MB!!! In general, double the recommended and you have the right amount of memory, 256MB is suited for Win Me best, 128MB for Win 98.
Bear in mind, memory is now so cheap, £50'll get you another 128MB.
TT.

I believe you're being overly harsh, and as for the memory thing, well, when I boot up, my PC is "using" 125 Mb (I have 196Mb and Win98SE installed) - what about other differences like being able to view zip files as folders etc?
