When I bought my first computer it had windows 98 second edition installed and although I experienced some problems with it,many through my own inexperience, generally it was ok. Due to other members of my family wanting to use the computer such as the kids for their home work or the wifes addiction to online gaming I decided it was time to invest in a second pc. I bought a lap top pc With windows me. On paper the lap top,due to its superior spec was suposed to 'blow away'our out of date desk top pc but this has been painfully far from the case. At first every thing seemed fine, that is untill it came to going on-line. Surfing the net is far from a pleasurable experience as after viewing 1 or 2 web pages the internet explorer stops dead in its tracks and has to be shut down and opened up again. I have tried several different ways of sorting this problem including checking the phone line, running tests on the pc hardware and software. I have scoured the help sections of microsofts web site and also other help sites and books. I have up graded to ie6 and this made the problem worse as I kept getting error messages that would not go away unless I restarted the pc. I even tried netscapes browser all to no avail. As for isp's,AOL would not work on it at all and freeserve is very slow (both work fine on windows 98). I might have to resort to buying a windows 98 disk and down grading to sort this problem out. Windows me is supposed to be more freindly to the home user but from my experience I would thin twice before upgrading to it.
