If Microsoft had their way we'd all be using Windows NT now - their flagship OS product . Gone would be the troubles of the old pesky users of Windows 98/95 , no more problems with people complaining about crashes and poor stability and a new reputation . The problem with Windows in general as everyone knows is that it's stability doesn't really inspire it for anything more than everyday work . That's fine for a lot of people but if you want something more serious ( like in the business world ) or you're more interested in the viagra of the operating systems ( It'll stay up all night as compared to Win98 ) you might want to give Windows ... NT4 was given to me by a friend who found it mysteriously bundled with his new PC and he didn't need it. I've installed it several times on a dual boot system running along side Windows 95 and later 98 but now I fail to see what the point is. I have a small three computer network in my bedroom which is basically just for internet connection sharing, network games and backing up files for when a PC needs a clean re-install. As a home user I found that NT gave me more network features than 95 but having had Windows 98 installed for the past 2 years the advantages have totally disappeared. Just downloading a few freeware programmes from the web ... Read the complete review

You'll not find many home computers with NT 4 installed on them, mainly due to the fact Win 98 is the cheaper option for the PC Manufactures. A real bonus over Win98 is that you cannot get direct access to the hardware. By disabling the direct hardware access a lot of viruses will not run correctly making it more secure from the word go. Also having a file system that does not require constant file re-ordering, has to be a giant step forward. The real use for NT Workstation is for Business. The Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for many businesses is greatly reduced because of remote administration. TCO is one of the many factors in buying business machine. The ... Read the complete review

If any of you work in a development environment, you will know that NT 4 is a bare minimum for working. When I first joined up with the development house I work for, I had a Pentium 2 with 128Mb or Ram and Windows 95. Sounds good enough doesn't it? Well no it wasn't. If you are gaming at home then it would be a fine machine to use. Trouble is, if you are programming then it would not be anywhere near powerful enough. If you use a web development interface such as Microsoft Interdev and use are using object orientated programming, you will soon run out of memory as this is very memory hungry. Running Windows 85 with a few objects ... Read the complete review

Windows NT 4.0 Workstation A lot of people haven?t heard of Windows NT, probably because it wasn?t used as widely in homes as 95 and 98 were. Installing Windows NT 4.0 My copy of NT was bootable, so it was a relatively simple installation. I?ve never got the floppy install to work. It starts out with a blue and yellow DOS-like environment, which is the beginning of the install process. I don?t remember much of this, but it was really easy. NT 4 installed in about 45 seconds on my 1.4GHz computer, which is good because it takes me almost 45 MINUTES to install XP. NT?s install looks almost exactly like XP?s, how it starts with the blue and ... Read the complete review
