Advantages: Stability, Extra Feature, Look
Disadvantages: Price, Tailored for NET users
Not one for regularly upgrading my Operating System I was suprised at all the positive feedback I was hearing about the new Microsoft Windows, being Windows XP. I started looking into it more and was sold, despite the price which I suppose IS reasonable for an Operating System, I went straight out and bought it. Installation was a breeze, (although I would recommend uninstalling all your software before you upgrade/replace your OS and backing up all your saved files), I had not one problem. It's also a very reliable and stable product, (no more blue screens!), instead a handy task manager that solves any problems quickly and painlessly that is if your computer ever comes close to crashing, which I am yet to eXPerience with this new technology. If you use your PC for day to day administration, games, printing, etc. then Windows XP home edition is for you. Home = Green Box Pro = Blue Box ;) One word of Warning however, if you are an experience web developer who uses software such as 'Personal Web Server' to create dynamic web pages using ASP, Windows Home Edition is not for you, instead you want the Professional Edition which comes with a condensed version of IIS (Internet Information Services) which is the more commerical and more powerful equivalent of PWS. In all a great product, it may not get said often but here goes, "WELL DONE Microsoft"

- 13/07/02 I use XP Home, and after some intial glitches I wouldn't go back to Win98. XP is *much* more stable - getting on for Linux standard here. |

- 13/07/02 I don't like the spyware on it, so I want to avoid XP at all costs. This could be difficult though if I want to get a new PC and still use most of the software I'm used to. I hate the way Microsoft has such a huge share of the market that it's hard to avoid their product. |
