Microsoft Windows XP - Professional Edition

Description: Manufacturer: Microsoft.

... probably the most stable version I had used and that was due to it being based on nt similar to the new xp. I liked the user account system and ease of navigation as well as the simplicity of using the admin tools. The auto update feature is useful to keep ahead of security issues which is always a problem with microsoft. Although after certain updates I did find certain peripherals stopped functioning as they should due to an incompatibility. Once microsoft finally updated the update the device would begin working...more

Crowned Review Microsoft Windows XP - Professional Edition: Win98 was Fragilistic, XP's Not Atrocious (3099 words)

Um, diddle, iddle, iddle, um, diddle, eye Um, diddle, iddle, iddle, um, diddle, eye ... DAMN THOSE PESKY "BLUE SCREENS OF DEATH" I've nearly always kept my PC operating system up to date, but in the past couple of years, I really couldn't work up any enthusiasm for changing from Windows 98, which had always performed OK(-ish, see title), to the Windows 98SE, or even the ME version. My spendthrift 'doppelgänger' kept goading me to upgrade, and the 'sensible short arms and deep pockets' part of me held me back. However, along comes Windows XP with, it seems from magazine articles, enough extra widgets ...  Read the complete review

When i first bought my computer it had windows 98 Installed, this was okay for its time but i need to be with things nowadays. So after that i got Windows ME which i loved to pieces as it had everything such as Internet Explorer 5.5 and it just looked great. Then my friends told me all about how good windows 2000 was, I saw it at a friends house and i decided to get it. Little did i know about the compatability problems. When I installed 2000 everything went pear shape and it would hardly detect anything. Then windows Xp came along, this looked good and was also compatible with most things. I liked the look of Windows 2000 and the features of Windows ME so i decided to ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Microsoft Windows XP - Professional Edition: XP = Great (967 words)

I recently upgraded my operating system on my Dell Inspiron 8100 from Windows ME to Windows XP Professional. This was necessary because on several occasions Windows ME crashed for no apparent reason and I was forced to do a complete hard disk format and reinstall all my software. Fortunately I had taken the precaution of backing up my most sensitive data onto and external Iomega 80Gb hard drive; however, I had no option but to re-install application software from the original CD disks. This took ages. Cost of upgrading varies. Windows XP Professional is priced at about £160 (academic upgrade £80). Windows XP Home edition costs about £80. ...  Read the complete review

Love it or Hate it, XP is a bit of a legend in the computing world, I don't think there is any other technology that has been around for 8 years without a replacement that has superseded it entirely. It has its security flaws, it has its limitations, but, it gets the job done and is arguably better than it's supposed replacement, Windows Vista. At the time of it's release the design was no doubt revolutionary, it brought colours to a grey world of windows, and made computer's more family-orientated; making it simple to have multiple users on a single computer and removing the need for an IT support team to keep it running smooth! But beneath the fancy new GUI ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Microsoft Windows XP - Professional Edition: windows xp professional (1004 words)

Right, in a word windows XP professional is great. To all the people who bash it, don't listen to them, they are either too hard to please or don't really get what the idea is all about. When i bought my PC it came with windows xp home, ok fair enough but i wasn't given a boot disc for it and my PC if floppy-less. thats the maunfactures problem not Microsoft. so i went out and bought xp pro, get it home , the install is foolproof you cant really go wrong, as long as you look after things like your motherboard drivers cd, and other cd's for graphics etc you shouldn't have too much trouble installing it, upgrading from a previous Operating ...  Read the complete review
