Advantages: User Friendly, Very Compatable With Software And Hardware, Relatively Stable.
Disadvantages: Support and Updates May Be Cut In The Near Future.
Well I have had many OS's in my time from 95,98,2000, the dreaded ME and a multitude of Linux Distro's, Solaris and Vista.
But out of them all XP is my number one, granted crashes happen now and again and I have had to re-install XP numerous times, but it is stable when used well. my opinion was very different until I had used Vista for some months, Vista truly makes XP look amazing.
XP has a great User Interface, most if not all programs and games work with it well and problems can be solved easily, SP2 has made XP more secure than ever before and performance is not usually an issue,
unfortuanetly 3rd party applications that claim to improve performance are normally the cause of problems with the OS, yes programs that mess around and delete things on the system are usually the cause of it's downfall, moderate users will be happy with XP for many years,
it's great for gaming and drivers are numerous whether they be direct from microsoft or found online, so compatability with hardware is not a problem,
professional outweights home in it's benefits as many features turned off on the home edition are just too nessecary for most people to not pay that little bit extra,
keep your XP updated through the microsoft update website and that will stop most things from ever going wrong.
unfortunately microsoft are cutting their support of XP in the near future so that may be a problem if you want the OS to be viable for at least the next 5 years.
but if you have to make the choice between XP and Vista, it would be wise to do some research and see which one better meets your needs and which will work best with you current hardware.
Summary: XP Is A Good OS Depending On Your Needs And The Spec PC You Have.

grahamt - 29.04.08 So, like most MS products, great, so long as you don't use it for anything useful (or non-MS)! |
