Advantages: Beautiful GUI, never crashes, Start panel
Disadvantages: Well, it's a beta at the moment so I can't really grumble at the bugs
I've seen a running beta of this operating system and it really is the next step for computers and operating systems. It is not nonsense spouted by the marketing people of Microsoft. The first thing that we all love to see when we've installed a new OS ios the startup screen - how have they changed we all think. It's always for the better, at least it seems that way. The startup is quick, even for a beta version that has a load of rubbish code that slows everything down here and there. Just think of what the finished prouct will be like! The user interface reminds you of Millenium and Win2000 but as you explore it becomes more of a super evolved windows 2000 look alike. The start menu is dead in this OS - long live the the Start panel. Not terribly different but better nonetheless. The main thing about this release is that there's a wizard for everything. We've seen them all before but in Whistler they actually do some good in helping you and not get in the way. THe internet features have been enhanced and the games that come as standard (exactly like the line up from WinME) include the much loved Pinball, solitaire and now Internet Solitaire, Spider, Internet Backgammon and Internet Checkers. There are others and my favourite is Internet Chess. THis edition has been even more stable than any other previous Windows release, even Windows 2000 - is this possible. Well, it is th case and no longer can Linux rival itself as the OS that never crashes as Microsoft has caught up! [will update this review as I learn more]

- 13/02/01 Hi,
I am going to make fun of this comment because I hate Microsoft being arrogant and putting unstable products on the market and making money. Loads of it. Having said that I also think MS has produced reasonable products over the years and hats off to them for those !!!.
But these products are certainly not WIN NT, WINDOWS or to some extent the Office suite (they hid an almost working 3d game inside MS Excel).
Their products are memory hungry and are not technically efficient or elegant such linux is.
However I am interested in XP. Is it true that it is going to be put out in 3 qtr this year ?
This info is important as we are planning to upgrade some PC s to win 2000 which is not necessary and can wait for this.
Or Are you working for MIcrosoft or paid by them ? (I am half serious).
Very few people that I know pay compliments to MS.
I dont like to except in specific instances. I will let you off if you are also in the same boat. |
