Advantages: runs smooth, looks good, very user friendly

Disadvantages: bit pricey but worth the money

I can say i have had the pleasure of using the new Windows XP operating system, at first glance it looks nicer, seems to be user friendly and virtually crash free.
Working for one of the Larger PC companies and knowing full well this OS would be put on the new systems i thought i would have a go at crashing it, did a search for *.exe highlighted them all and kept hitting enter, 267 windows later message 'system extremely low on resources, please wait' it shut down the windows till 65 were left open and then let me continue. you could never do that on 98, ME or 2000.
One of the troubles i see is that certain items like the quickstart menu come disabled as standard and need setting up and the new startbar takes a while to get used to unless you change to the old style, but on the whole i was quite impressed with the smoothness of the operating system and the ease of use. it puts Windows ME totally out in the cold and will successfully take over from Windows 2000 and 98SE as the best operating system to be installed onto home and business PC's.
Other nice little added extras are the new mediaplayer and also when putting a cd into your drive giving you the option of what you want to open it with and allowing you to stick to that each time you put a disk of that sort into the drive.
It seems to be user friendly and that cant be a bad thing for people who were having the nightmares they were with Windows ME, I eagerly await the day when it is available in the shops for sale and will not hesitate to go and get myself a copy for use on my own home system.
Anybody who is looking to buy a PC would be well advised to make sure the operating system is Windows XP and not Windows ME - upgrade if you can or just await the time it is available on the pc of your choice.
I work for Tech Support so if any flaws come up i will be sure to come back and edit this to let people know about them and what to do to get round them.
The only one we have
so far is the live soundcards can have probs but there is already a download on the windows update site to overcome this prob.

The reason why XP is more stable than 98 or Me is that it is an upgrade to Windows 2000 which is NT. I agree that it is an excellent system, but there are many hardware and software compatability issues.
