Advantages: Very Stable, Truly user friendly, highly adaptable
Disadvantages: Microsoft Registration, online registration
I have been using the test version of the O.S. for the last 3 months and have found (after initial glitches) the software to be pretty amazing. I chose to move from Windows M.E. in the hope that the OS would be more stable + have improved operating structure. In the first instance the system is far superior in stability - whilst M.E. had an inane ability to fail/crash at least twice a week. XP has been a very very strong system. It handles stalling and abrupt shutdowns smoothly i.e. restarting and scanning the system for errors almost immediately! XP impressed me in a number of other ways - the software itself is very smooth running and has a good number added extras - new methods of viewing files, prompting for options when attaching new hardware or CD's, DVD's. The obvious improvement is noticeable straight away - User Interface. The new OS allows you to to have a number of seperate users on the one PC - each with entirely individual profiles of software and hardware. I found this to be very handy to keep email accounts seperate on Outlook + personal files. It is also possible to share files and programs between users! It almost does the work or you i.e. if you insert a CD into CD-rom drive it will scan the disk and assess the types of files on the CD - after which point it will offer a number of options (which can be temporary or kept permanent) for what to do. Overall I found the new OS to be a great improvement - hugely more stable, and a much improved file system both in storage and access. The main fault being that it does almost force you to register with Microsoft Passport system whilst upgrading!
