Oral-B 1-2-3 Toothpaste
by springtide
A little while ago I was enticed away from my normal Colgate or Arm and Hammer toothpaste by a special offer from Oral-B, the first time that I have bought this brand. I think the promotion was for a 100ml tube for 99 pence, a good buy so I popped a tube into my basket on my weekly shop at Morrison's and then it went into our store ... cupboard until the current tube of toothpaste ran out.
The cardboard packaging, which unfortunately went in the bin, was a similar colour to the tube being predominantly blue and white with Oral B picked out clearly followed by 1 2 3 which stands for,1 anti-cavity, 2 whitening and 3 freshness as stated on the tube. This toothpaste contains fluoride(Sodium Fluoride 1450 ppm Fluoride) and comes in a fresh mint flavour and is presented in a blue and white tube. On the reverse are the ingredients and advice to use the full family of Oral B products, (of which there are many as I checked in Morrison's this morning), and also to visit your dentist regularly. The ingredients are listed on the reverse of the tube and also the advice that children under 6 should be supervised whilst brushing their teeth using a pea sized amount of the paste.to minimize swallowing. It also says in case of intake of fluoride from other sources consult a doctor or dentist. I have never been aware of this second warning on other tubes but maybe I am just unobservant.
Use and Opinion.
The white top is the traditional twist off top, easy to use and also to drop!. Inside is a pure white quite soft paste smelling minty fresh. The paste is quite soft and comes out a bit too fast so it is easy to get too much onto your brush. I use an old fashioned traditional toothbrush and give my pearly whites a good brush twice a day, about two minutes a time. I find that this is a very frothy toothpaste and you can look a bit like a mad dog while brushing but the flavour is quite nice if a bit unexciting. I have also found that if we are not careful this can leave white marks on you face. Good job we have a mirror in the hall just before the door! When the tube was about half full the bottom end of it split and so we had to be careful when using it not to squidge it out both ends.
Now we are at the end of the tube I have to say that I am not very impressed. I have not noticed any whitening effect but then I do drink a lot of tea and the odd glass of red wine so it is not really in with a chance. It has a nice fresh taste and does leave my teeth feeling clean and my breath fresh. I have not noticed any cavities developing whilst using this toothpaste. For the price it was a good buy but I would not pay full price for it.
4 out of 5 stars from me.
Thanks for reading my review, I also post on Ciao under splishsplash.
Made by Procter and Gamble it has a life of 12 months after opening and the tube is recyclable Read the complete review |

Listerine Total Care
by topsyturvy
Before going away on my holiday last year I needed to buy a small mouthwash to take away with me and I ended up going to the travel section to see what was there. They had quite a few but this little bottle of Listerine Total was only 60p on clearance as it was late summer, I know they are a well known brand and it looked like it was a ... good quality product so at that price I couldn't say no. It came in a 95ml bottle but the bigger ones come in sizes 250ml and 500ml so there is a size for every household, I don't use it every day so it is good to have in the bathroom.
PACKAGING
This mouthwash comes in a clear plastic bottle with purple liquid inside which can be seen through the plastic. It has a metallic label with the Listerine logo on the front and product name and a list of ingredients on the back and what it aims to improve. It comes in the flavour Clean Mint and is antibacterial with the 6 in 1 badge on the front as it has 6 benefits. Also, it has been approved by the British Dental Health Foundation, it is eye catching when on the shelf and it stood out to me right away with it being purple and the metallic label caught my eye.
LISTERINE TOTAL CARE MOUTHWASH
To start with, this mouthwash has a few warnings listed on it, it states to keep out of reach of children and that it contains alcohol, it also says that it should not be used by children under 12 years old and don't use if the bottle seal is broken. Don't swallow this mouthwash and if using fluoride supplements, consult your doctor. Other than that, it continues to say what this mouthwash aims to improve, it will reduce plaque, maintain healthy gums, strengthen teeth against decay, prevent tartar to keep teeth whiter, kill up to 99.9% of oral bacteria and provide up to 24 hours of fresh breath.
These are all promises aimed if used twice a day, now I have to be completely honest, I never used this twice daily. I try to use it daily when I can as I do want to see the results of this even more. It smells very minty and strong and quite chemical like, it reminds me just of the dentist. It has a child safety lock on it so it can be a bit of a nightmare getting the lid off but once it is open I usually use a capful and it says to use after brushing twice daily and rinse 20ml around teeth and gums for 20 seconds and to then spit it out, not too much to do really.
I have been using Listerine Total Care now for about 7 months and I do think it leaves my teeth and gums looking better, it makes my mouth tingle always after using it as it can be quite strong but it is good and the results are slightly noticeable. I obviously don't use it twice daily but even using it daily, I do feel I see a change, it isn't a miracle where teeth will magically appear whiter in weeks, it does take consistent using but after I go to the dentist, I am always told my teeth are in great condition and look very clean and that has got to be partly because of Listerine.
This brand do a wide range of different mouthwashes but I like this one the best as I have stuck to using it. It is ideal for anyone who wants to keep their teeth very clean and in good condition and if you are willing to use it daily or twice daily then it is a good product to have in. I think it should be in every bathroom cabinet as it is a household essential and it does work, they are a good brand and since buying the travel size bottle I have since upgraded to the 250ml which lasts me a really good amount of time as I liked it when on holiday that much.
