Oraldene
by ask_eve I've been suffering the past couple of weeks with really painful gum inflammation around my right wisdom tooth. I don't get many dental problems, usually jusy the occasional ulcer but this was really bad. I'm a bit of a wimp so avoided the dentist for two weeks and put up with the pain but when the swelling got worse I relented and ... finally went in. I was expecting her to pull out the wisdom tooth which I was dreading but to my relief she prescribed some antibiotics and a bottle of this mouthwash. I haven't tried this brand before, when I've had bad ulcers in the past I usually use corsodyl as it is fantastic. When I opened this at the chemist, I laughed with my daughter commenting on how the bottle is very similar in shape and size to the corsodyl. I said it's probably a cheaper version that they prescribe. One of the first things I noticed about the bottle was the lack of child proof lid. It is just a screw top bottle which I didn't think was a good idea on an antiseptic mouthwash given that I have a young grandson. It just means that I have to make sure it's always out the way just incase. I got it free on prescription but you can get it for about £3 for a 200ml bottle which isn't bad at all. This mouthwash is meant to be much better than your standard mouthwashes as, similarly to corsodyl, it contains an antiseptic which kills bacteria in your mouth promoting healthy gums and teeth and getting rid of ulcers and infections. I must admit it tastes pretty awful, I don't really know how to explain the taste. It's just sterile tasting? You know when you've got something like washing up liquid in your mouth by accident and you can taste it. It is somewhat similar to that. It says on the bottle to take around 10ml and gargle it for a minute. I don't bother to measure it and just take a gulp out the bottle as I'm the only one using it anyway. I swill it round my mouth and gargle and then have to have a sip of water after to get rid of the bitter taste. After use, my mouth feels so clean and fresh, especially after brushing my teeth as well. I've been using the mouthwash whenever I'm upstairs or in the bathroom because I really wanted rid of the infection. I must admit I've forgotten to take most of the antibiotics but the mouthwash alone has really helped and after two days the swelling has gone and the pain has stopped. I'm still using the mouthwash though, althuogh I don't like the taste, it leaves my mouth feeling really fresh. The only downside I would say is taste. The mouthwash tastes pretty vile and afterwards, my food tastes really bland. I had a sandwich yesterday about half an hour after using the mouthwash and I could barely taste it but I've been told this can be a side effect. I'll carry on using it until it's finished and then won't buy anymore. I think I'll only bother if the infection comes back or I get an ulcer because it works fantastically for that purpose. Overall, this is a good antiseptic mouthwash. It cleared up my infection lovely and it isn't very expensive to buy. I've seen it in places like Asda and Boots so it's easily available and it does what it says on the bottle. Just don't expect to like the taste! Read the complete review |

Oraldene
by katykicker Recently I have had to have some surgery on my jaw and to remove some teeth too. This meant that I was at risk of infection and needed to take care of my mouth. I have been using salt water rinses and then following up with Oraldene after brushing my teeth just to ensure that I cover all bases and keep my mouth as free of germs and ... infection as possible. Oraldene is widely available and I picked mine up for just £2.50 in Sainsburys. This was the standard price and seemed reasonable enough when I was looking at medicate mouthwashes. I wasn't worried about price but rather was looking for a brand name that I had heard good things about before and Oraldene fit the bill. Oraldene is an antiseptic mouthwash that is ideal for the treatment of minor infections including fungal and bacterial ones. This mouthwash is useful for treating thrush, mouth ulcers, gingivitis, sore throats, halitosis, gum inflammation, swelling and both before and after dental surgery. This is basically the majority of problems that can or might occur within your mouth so for £2.50 this covers a wide range of illnesses or afflictions. This medicated mouthwash comes provided in a cardboard box and within the box is the glass bottle of mouthwash. There is a screw on lid that is not child proof but was quite difficult for me to open so I had to ask my husband to help. This is a liquid, as I expected, and is a watery red colour, almost pink in appearance. It is very watery and smells strong which is a little bit off putting, however, nothing much that is good for my mouth even smells or tastes good so I have become used to this in recent months. This mouthwash can be used by anyone over the age of 6 years old but must be avoided if you have a sensitivity to Hexetidine. This is the active ingredients within this mouthwash and is what helps this mouthwash keep your mouth clean and germ free. As it is suggested that 15mls of this should be taken as the dosage I use a tablespoon to put this in to my mouth (to ensure I don't go over the top), gently swish it around my mouth, gargle with it for about 30 seconds, or as long as I can manage, and then spit this back in to the sink. I then gently rinse my mouth with water to remove any excess liquid and in all it takes just a few minutes to use this mouthwash. I have been using this mouthwash three times a day and have found that it has worked very well, with a combination of salt rinses and generally good oral health, at keeping my mouth infection free. I don't normally suffer with problems in my mouth but since finding out I needed some work done I have had constant pain and since my operation it has been excruciating. I have found that this mouthwash is quite easy to use and there is not a harsh sting that I found with other mouthwashes before I even had my operation. The price of this mouthwash is very reasonable too and I have enough to last for 7 full days, even with 3 times daily usage, so that makes each bottle great value. £2.50 per week to keep great oral health while at risk of an infection seems reasonable to me. Each time I have used Oraldene I have noticed within an hour or so that my pain has decreased greatly. When suffering as much as I have been recently this is fantastic and is what is making me give this mouthwash 5/5! Read the complete review |

Oraldene
by garymarsh6 Oraldene. Oraldene is an antiseptic mouth wash which can be used for all kinds of minor oral infections including both fungal and bacterial infection. The most common problems it will treat includes thrush, mouth ulcers, gum inflammation, gingivitis, sore throats, reduces halitosis ( Bad Breath) and can be used pre and post ... dental surgery. So what does it look like? Oraldene is a red liquid which is quite watery in consistency and looks just like a mouth wash. It is quite strong smelling and contains the active ingredient Hexetidine at 0.1% which is a broad spectrum antimicrobial solution. Who is it suitable for? It is suitable for children over the age of 6 and adults and should not be used if you are sensitive to Hexetidine. Normal dose is 15 mls which should be used undiluted to wash around the mouth or to gargle with in the case of sore throats two or three times a day. It should not be swallowed and should be spat out after rinsing. Interestingly it has been shown to adhere to the mucous membranes of the mouth for up to 8-10 hours thereby continually working to annihilate bacteria or fungi. Ingredients. Polysorbate 60. Citric acid. Saccharin Sodium. Peppermint flavouring. Star anise oil. Methyl Salicylate. Levomenthol. Clove oil. Eucalyptus oil. Ethanol 96%. Asorubin 85% (E122). Purified water. Why did I use it? On occasions when I become run down I usually get a couple of mouth ulcers whilst not necessarily life threatening they can be jolly well uncomfortable. The mouth ulcers are usually small but you can almost guarantee that when you are eating something or talking when your teeth come together they catch one of the ulcers which is quite painful. I usually find I get the odd mouth ulcer when I am very tired and have been over doing things and I am in need of a holiday and a rest from work however it is not possible to take time off each time you are run down so I have found that this is the best for a rapid response. Not only is it a very effective treatment but within a couple of hours you can actually feel the relief from the discomfort. How I use it! I usually clean my teeth and then scratch my tongue to ensure that my mouth is clean and ready to receive the Oraldene. I take a mouthful of the Oraldene and swish it around my mouth for a few minutes ensuring that I do not swallow any. I then spit it out down the sink then rinse my mouth out with water. I repeat this several times a day until the discomfort has subsided and before you know it the mouth ulcers have disappeared leaving me a happy bunny once again. Possible side effects. Mild irritation to the tongue or inside of the mouth. The colouring used in Oraldene may cause allergic reactions including asthma. People who are allergic to aspirin are most at risk. Please remember that when medications mention possible side effects these side effects are those that have been reported and are not necessarily associated with the drug involved it is just that they have occurred and may or may not be linked to it. Where to buy Oraldene! Oraldene is available in most supermarkets and all chemists. I paid £2.48 recently for 200ml bottle from Asda. Oraldene is made by :- McNeil Products LTD. Foundation Park Roxborough Way. Maidenhead. Berks. SL6 3UG. Final word. My advice is to treat your mouth with care and if you want a rapid response to alleviate the pain or discomfort then this could be just for you. However with persistent problems you should seek medical or dental advice. Recurring gum infections or gum disease can lead to cardiac problems so it is advisable if you suffer from these then it is best to be seen by your dental practitioner. Read the complete review |
