Tesco Daily Care Coolmint Mouth Wash
by quackmunch
I have had a lot of dental work done when younger, including 'train track' braces on for 5 years so after all that effort I want to keep my teeth looking and feeling good. I floss and brush twice a day and use mouthwash at least twice too.
I've tried many brands of mouthwash and became quite picky. Some were too minty, some ... not minty enough, some didn't seem to freshen my mouth as well but the problem I had with most of them was the price. I hated spending £4 or £5 on mouthwash.
I decided to give an own brand a try and plumped for the Tesco Daily Care mouthwash. I've tried the Coolmint one and the Freshmint flavour but I prefer the Coolmint; it seems to have just the right amount of mint flavour for me.
I find the flavour great, and the freshness lasting. No matter when I use it or what I've eaten my mouth ends up fresh and minty, which makes me more confident. I don't worry about bad breath or food smells on my breath talking to people close up - something I've noticed with some other mouthwashes I've tried.
Despite using this at least twice a day it does seem to last me a while although at the price (only 59p) that's not a huge concern. I have to say it's the best mouthwash I've ever tried, not something I thought I'd say about an own brand mouthwash! Read the complete review |

Tesco Daily Care Coolmint Mouth Wash

Bad breath is a no no! I eat alot of spicy foods, drink and smoke and hate my mouth feeling and smelling stale. I brush my teeth twice a day and after brushing I always use a mouthwash to make my mouth feel really fresh and to help to protect my teeth as well.
This I bought from my local Tesco store and it cost me 49p which I ... thought was a good price for a big bottle and comparing it Listerine Coolmint it was vastly cheaper with Listerine being £3.30 for a bottle the same size as this! The bottle is see through and plastic with a white cap that screws on/off to the top of it and on the front of it we are told what it is and who it is by then and then on the back of the bottle we are told a bit about the product and how to use it, the ingredients are given and the size is stated which is 500ml and contact details for Tesco are listed. I like being able to see thr mouthwash through the bottle of this and its a lovely and rich sea blue colour!
Using It:
Well all you do with this of course is to fill the cap of this with the mouthwash and swill it around you mouth and teeth without drinking any of it. It has a rich, sweet flavour of mint this one and I have to admit I don't really like the over sweet flavour that this has to it to be honest and the reason this is so sweet is because according to the list of ingredients this has in it contains saccharin.
This formulation is meant to protect against plaque, fight bacteria, tooth decay and cavities and to strengthen and remineralise tooth enamel as well as freshing breath.
Now of course I can't vouch for the fact that this does help to prevent tooth decay and cavities or even that it helps to strengthen my teeth but what I can say is that teeth do feel cleaner after using this, it does freshen my stale breath up quite a bit and for about an hour and isn't awful to use. As I stated earlier I'm not keen on the flavour or sweetness of this but its ok and does what its meant to do very well indeed.
I won't be buying this one again though, it is good quality and effective only due to the flavour of it but if you like sweet mouthwashes, then I don't think your going to be dissapointed with one!

Tesco Daily Care Coolmint Mouth Wash

After wearing braces for over three years and having jaw surgery to finally get the lovely teeth I have always dreamed off I do now like to try and look after my teeth as much as possible but am also quite a bargain hunter. Therefore when I ran out of mouthwash and went to Tesco to do my weekly shop I decided to try the Tesco own brand ... mouthwash as it was a fraction of the price of some of the branded ones. I opted for a bottle of the coolmint mouthwash which stated that it had antibacterial action.
I paid just £0.49 for a 500ml bottle of the Tesco coolmint mouthwash which I thought was excellent value compared to what you can pay for some mouthwashes. In fact I did think at the time of purchase that even if this mouthwash did not turn out to be much good then I had not lost too many of my hard earned pennies.
The mouthwash comes in a clear plastic curved bottle with a white screw cap lid. The lid is actually a specialist safety one which you need to squeeze at the side and twist at the same time to break the seal on the initial opening and for each additional opening. To make sure this safety function works when you replace the cap you need to make sure it clicks into place. The mouthwash packaging is very simple but functional in design with the bottle having a sticky label on the front and the back. The front label simply has the Tesco logo and name of the mouthwash and the international dental health foundation approved logo on it. On the back label you will find more detailed information about the mouthwash including the functions of the mouthwash, directions for use, warnings and ingredients listings.
This mouthwash states that it helps to:
- Protect against plaque.
- Give fresh breath.
- Fights bacteria.
- Fights tooth decay
- Strengthens and remineralise tooth enamel
- Protects against cavities
When you first open the mouthwash you can immediately smell the minty fragrance but to me it's a little more spearmint smelling than coolmint but this was fine with me as it is what I prefer. To use the mouthwash it states to fill the cap and to rinse the undiluted mouthwash around your mouth. I find a full cap a little too much and tend to use about half a cap full instead after I have brushed my teeth. The taste of the mouthwash is quite strong but also pleasant and not overpowering. I have used some mouthwashes which have left my mouth feeling like it is on fire but this one is strong enough to make my mouth feel fresh but not reaching for a glass of water straight after use. I have been using this mouthwash for just over a week now in the mornings and evenings just after brushing and have been impressed with the results. Although the freshness that I feel after immediate use does not last a very long time I have noticed other positive effects. Before I began to use the mouthwash my gums had started to feel a little sore and inflamed but this has completely cleared up. I did not expect miracles from this mouth wash for the low cost but have been pleasantly surprised and would certainly recommend to anyone on a budget and would purchase again.
