Arm & Hammer Enamel Care Sensitive Toothpaste
Advantages: Protects, cleans and whitens your sensitive teeth.
Disadvantages: A reather odd taste and likes to be kept warm!
Over the last coupleof years I have spent a LOT of money on my teeth , with three new crowns they are in fact the most expensive personal item that I own. Even with all this work I was still getting aches and pains, not so much the ouch! when eating an ice cream but just general niggly tooth pains from teeth that my dentist said were fine. Then on a trip to Morrison's I saw Arm and Enamel Care for sensitive teeth on special offer. I am not a great fan of the taste of baking soda but I thought that as it claimed to restore surface enamel this might help my little gnashers and I am very glad that I did.
Pump those arms!
It is easy to spot on the shelves due to, you've got it, the Arm and Hammer logo and the words "Enamel Care" in blue, emblazoned on a white background. Also appears "Restores Surface Enamel, for sensitive teeth, liquid calcium protective shield and fixes the cause of sensitivity. This is a lot to promise and on one side of the cardboard container there are 4 little diagrams of a sensitive tooth getting progressively whiter and smoother as the liquid calcium repairs the enamel surface and then forms a protective layer giving less sensitive, smoother and whiter teeth.
The toothpaste contains baking soda which they claim whitens teeth more gently and you are advised to use it twice daily. Now I got in trouble it when we started using this as one night I left the top off and Cpt S said that it was difficult to get the paste out of the tube and he was right! A few days later getting ready to write this review I noticed on the packaging and the tube that it says this paste works best at above 20degrees C and to always put the top back on. So that was that little difficulty sorted out. If you have a cold bathroom like us, cuddle your toothpaste before you use it.
A taste of the Sea.
The packaging also contains the ingredients and I was intrigued as to what one of them was, Chondrus Crispus sounded like someone out of a Harry Potter film but, it is, in fact, carrageen seaweed used for thickening! The tube itself replicates most of the information on the packaging (without the teeth drawings) So, warm it up and unscrew the white top. The paste is pure white and has a fresh minty smell. Once on your toothbrush and scrubbing away it gives a nice amount of foam without you looking like a rabid dog. The taste is a little strange and salty but after a week I got used to it. Your mouth feels really clean after use and stays fresh for a few hours after brushing and there was no gritty feeling in my mouth which I thought the baking soda might give.
I was sceptical but I have had much less niggly tooth pain since I started using it and this alone is recommendation enough for me to continue using it. I think that at around 3.30pounds it is a bit expensive. I got my first tube when it was on special offer so I will try and stock up when next I see it on offer I cannot say that my teeth are whiter but tea, red wine and coffee are all frequent visitors to my teeth. If you have sensitive teeth, please try Arm and Hammer it might do the trick for you.
5 stars from me.
Widely available from supermarkets and chemists around 3.30pounds for 75ml
Made by Church and Dwight Co. It lasts 12months after opening and the tube is recyclable. Not suitable for children under 7.
