Advantages: My teeth felt really clean
Disadvantages: It didnt stop my teeth hurting
A while ago I received a money off coupon for a tube of Arm & Hammer Enamel Care Toothpaste for sensitive teeth, something which I suffer with. I had never tried any of the Arm & Hammer range so it was an ideal opportunity to try this toothpaste at half the asking price. I bought mine from my local Tesco where a 75ml tube costs £3.00.
The Packaging
The toothpaste is packed in a regular box that the majority of toothpastes are sold in. It has the Arm & Hammer logo on the front with a gold coloured sunburst pattern around it. The rest of the front of the box is mainly white with a bit of pink and silver on it. It has Enamel Care Sensitive written on the front where is also informs the customer that the toothpaste contains baking soda. It also states that this is "clinically proven to give up to 16 weeks of pain relief" The toothpaste claims to "restore the surface enamel with liquid calcium". The back of the box gives the instructions for use and the ingredients should you wish to know.
The tube inside is a regular toothpaste tube with a screw top cap, I personally prefer a flip top lid as they cant be lost. The tube repeats all the information found on the box.
The Toothpaste
On removing the cap I was disappointed to see that there was no foil across the top of the tube. The toothpaste is white in colour and has a mild minty smell. When I rubbed a little bit between my fingers it has a slightly gritty, sandy feel to it.
Brushing
The first time I used the Arm & Hammer I was surprised t find it has a slightly salty taste, I was a bit worried as the last new toothpaste I tried was Corsodyl which has an awful taste and that started out salty too, however the Arm & Hammer only had a mild salty taste and wasn't at all unpleasant. Its quite minty and fresh and altogether has a rather strange taste. I cleaned my teeth in the usual way and was very pleased with how they felt afterwards, in fact my teeth actually felt like they been polished! I've never had a toothpaste leave my teeth like that before, they felt lovely. My mouth and breath felt fresh and clean and over all I was pleased with how this toothpaste had worked, my mouth felt minty fresh for some time after brushing and the polished feeling lasted all day right through to when I brushed my teeth before bed.
Painful Teeth?
While I was pleased with how the Arm & Hammer toothpaste cleaned my teeth I wasn't quite so pleased with the sensitive side of it, after using the whole tube it did reduce the sensitivity a bit but never actually made it disappear which was a shame.
I don't think I will buy this again, there are much better toothpastes on the market for sensitivity although none have ever left my teeth feeling so clean they felt like they had been polished.
Summary: I was a bit disappointed
