Asda Protect Mouthwash Mint Fresh
Advantages: Pleasant taste & great value..
Disadvantages: The lid is a bit difficult to open for me personally..
I like to use a mint-flavoured mouthwash regularly, as I find it keeps my mouth feeling clean and fresh. I particularly like to use a product like this after cleaning my teeth in the morning as I find it helps to waken me up!
I have found that premium branded mouthwash products have really seemed to increase their prices of late, and this has led to me paying over £2 for a 500ml bottle which doesn't seem to last particularly long in my house. For this reason, I decided to try out a couple of more 'basic' mouthwash products and see how they fared in comparison.
A product that I tried out recently was from Asda, and is their own brand of mint mouthwash. I paid only 49 pence for the bottle of "Asda Protect Mouthwash - Mint Fresh" when I was shopping with the supermarket online recently. And as the bottle is a fairly generous 500ml in size, I was extremely happy with this low price and thought it seemed like very good value.
The bottle is made of clear plastic which can be recycled. I can see the mouthwash liquid through the plastic which is a bright green colour and it is a similar - if not identical - colour to the product that I would usually buy. There is a white plastic lid on top of the bottle which is a long shape and this is so that the lid can double as a drinking cap to pour the mouthwash into your mouth.
I should point out too that the product's cap has a sort of 'safety' mechanism in its design, so you need to squeeze and twist the lid to remove it. I assume this is for child-safety reasons. I would also state that I have limited mobility in my hands and at times I do struggle to open the cap if it has been replaced tightly - which is the way it has been designed to be replaced. I won't be deducting any points from the product's overall rating however, as this is a problem that affects me personally and the majority of people would probably have no problem in removing and replacing the cap, but it may be worth bearing in mind if you suffer from arthritis or similar problems, and have limited strength in your hands.
The Asda Protect Mouthwash is very easy to use. All I need to do is pour half a capful into the white lid and swirl the undiluted liquid around my mouth for a short time. I have not found that this particular brand of mouthwash is very strong and over-powering, nor does it make my tongue feel uncomfortable or feel as though the liquid is catching in my throat as I am using it. These are significant problems I have come across with some mouthwash products I have used in the past as I find some of them have a very over-powering flavour which I don't like.
The Asda Protect Mouthwash tastes very pleasant and the flavour tastes to me like a sort of spearmint flavoured product rather than being something more peppermint. This, in my opinion, makes the flavour and taste of the Asda mouthwash more subtle to use and I have nothing negative to say about the flavour at all, I really like it and to me it just tastes like a refreshing mint flavour.
The after-effects of using the Asda Mouthwash are all positive too; my mouth feels cleaner, fresher and more hygienic than if I had just brushed my teeth with toothpaste and I like that the minty fresh, clean feeling lasts longer because I have used the Asda Mouthwash after brushing.
As for my overall dental health, I can see that the Asda Protect Mouthwash contains fluoride, so this will help strengthen my teeth against cavities and decay, as well as protect against plaque and there are claims such as these printed on the bottle's label. I have not had a trip to the dentist for a few months and so cannot comment on whether this product has actually made a significant difference to my dental health overall, but it is certainly reassuring to me to know that there is added fluoride in this product.
Overall, I am happy to buy this product again and would recommend it. I think it offers a great value product to help prevent against dental problems as well as freshen breath and protect against plaque. The product is very affordable and appears to be of a good quality and I have nothing negative to report about it.
The Asda Protect Mouthwash can be purchase from Asda supermarkets for 49 pence. The store has a website where you can shop online, which can be found at www.asda.co.uk.
Summary: I would buy it again, and thought it offered great value!
