Advantages: Mild and kind to sensitive teeth
Disadvantages: You may find that it tastes strange at first
This is a review of Colgate Plax sensitive mouthwash. I am on the search for the best mouthwash and have tried plenty. I find they all differ so much in taste and longevity. With this bottle. I was using a sensitive toothpaste and wanted to complement it with a similar mouthwash to see if it made any difference to the tooth sensitivity I have been experiencing.
Packaging
The bottle is clear plastic and the lid for once is not one of those tamper proof ones you usually get on mouthwash. It is simply a screw top. This suits me as it is kept out of reach of children and doesn't fox me at the point of use. The liquid inside the bottle is a pale pink and you can use the lid as a measuring cup.
Taste
I find the taste of this particular variety of mouthwash quite curious. At first I thought it was nasty. It reminded me of the shock you get when you usually chew mint gum and you have a stick of juicy fruit instead. Having said that, it does have minty undertones and is not exactly like juicy fruit (which I don't like). After a week of use, I was totally used to the taste and may go as far as saying I quite liked it. At first I found myself rinsing with water to get rid of the taste which surely defeats the point. I can now carry on after mouthwash without the rinse. I would never throw away something like this so usually persevere with most products rather than waste them.
Price
I bought a 500ml bottle of this mouthwash when it was on offer in Boots. I paid around £2 for it which I think is quite reasonable although I will always look out for offers as I prefer to feel I have got a bargain for something that essentially gets spit (or is it spat?) down the plughole.
The claim
The mouthwash is designed to be marketed as a premium brand and I am a lifelong user of Colgate products so trust this innately. The bottle is alcohol free which I presume is a good thing and promises 12 hours of protection from using. Therefore I use this twice a day, morning and night. This 500ml bottle will last me around a month.
Sensitive results?
As for the sensitive claim, I don't think my teeth have got any worse but I can't say there is a marked improvement either. I like the gentle nature of this product and don't feel it is as harsh as some of the other mouthwashes I have used.
My thoughts
Apart from the initial reaction I had to the taste, I have to say I would buy this again. I found it pleasant to use and the sensitive properties will hopefully help my teeth when drinking cold drinks. I would recommend it as a good mouthwash but will still try other brands depending on offers and prices.
Summary: A good mouth wash
